Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello André Ribeiro Cardoso! Your additions to Bothriechis schlegelii have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:42, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Bugula neritina
[edit]The article Bugula neritina you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Bugula neritina for comments about the article, and Talk:Bugula neritina/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Your GA nomination of Homalinotus coriaceus
[edit]The article Homalinotus coriaceus you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Homalinotus coriaceus for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Etriusus -- Etriusus (talk) 20:03, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
I was about to begin review of your nominated article when I noticed that it isn't close to GA criteria and was going to quickfail it. Seeing how I also failed your article Homalinotus coriaceus, I worry that you're not quite getting GA criteria just yet and I'd prefer to help rather than just cut you loose. For the purposes of this article, would you like to collaborate on getting it to GA?
My capabilities are far from perfect but I do enough work with GA species pages that I think (or hope at least) the skills are transferable. There is no obligation you have to, and I will recuse myself of reviewing the Buffy-tufted marmoset regardless of what you choose. You're also free to ask questions at any point, my talk page is always open. 🏵️Etrius ( Us) 15:11, 5 December 2023 (UTC)
- Could you give me an example or even some help on what I should do to work on the page? I have already done a GA article about Bugula neritina and I would like to do more. The Buffy-tufted marmoset is a species that I work with and I would like to spread good and true informations about it, as the old version of the article was incorrect.
- Moreover, about the Homalinotus coriaceus I also did some changes but I think that it is still not good, and the species doesn't have a lot of information on the literature so it would be hard to write more about it. amdre (talk) 21:00, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- The most immediate issues that stick out to me are MOS:SANDWICH, the maintenance tag, and the wayward stub tag. There is no taxonomy section, and the synonyms are unsourced. The conservation section is too vaguely written and there's no mention of the IUCN or CITES conservation status in the prose. These are just the immediate issues, I am also worried that this page doesn't have nearly enough information. This source alone has a ton of info that is missed:
- Olmos, Fábio, and Paulo Martuscelli. "Habitat and distribution of the buffy-tufted-ear marmoset Callithrix aurita in São Paulo State, Brazil, with notes on its natural history." Neotropical Primates 3.3 (1995): 75-79.
- I'm more than willing to help get this GA, if you're willing to Co-nom this page. That means that the nomination will need to be taken down while we work on it. Please ping me with whatever you want to do. If you'd just prefer for me to give advice in this capacity, that's also fine. 🏵️Etrius ( Us) 02:46, 15 December 2023 (UTC)

Cissia eous vernacular
[edit]Could you provide a source for the vernacular name, brown satyr, for Cissia eous? Is it in Portuguese/Spanish? I cannot seem to find it. Thanks in advance, --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 02:34, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- It is in Portuguese, "borboleta marrom" which the direct translation would be "brown butterfly" and I just adapted. You can remove from the page if this is not plausible, my source is: https://www.biofaces.com/specie/14668/cissia-eous/ amdre (talk) 10:24, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- Brown satyr is a common name for a few other species so it might be useful to create a disambiguation page. I have changed it to reflect the direct translation and added the Portuguese words as well. Hope that is acceptable. Best, --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 01:26, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

- No reason, just an error i didnt see. amdre (talk) 23:05, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
