October 2024
[edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you attempted to improve the short description on List of Super Bowl champions. Short descriptions serve a specific purpose on Wikipedia. They are not definitions of an article's topic, and should not simply repeat the information contained in the article's title. Additionally, many articles intentionally have no short description when the article title is considered to be sufficient. If you have further questions, feel free to consult Wikipedia's information page regarding short descriptions, or leave a message on my talk page.
Thanks!

WP: HOCKEY
[edit]Per consensus at WP:HOCKEY, we don't use maps. GoodDay (talk) 21:02, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @GoodDay All the other major North American sports leagues use maps to show where their champions are located, so I don't understand why NHL would be the exception. Where specifically is the discussion that led to the consensus? Alielmi1207 (talk) 21:16, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

- @GoodDay Thanks, but it seems to be a discussion rather than a consensus. Anyways, as the old saying goes: "A picture is worth a thousand words". So, my opinion would be to keep the map, as it conveys a lot of information at a glance. Alielmi1207 (talk) 21:32, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

- I can understand removing them from the season pages, but adds value to this page. Alielmi1207 (talk) 21:46, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- We'll wait & see, what the other WP:HOCKEY members think. I'll go along with what they prefer. GoodDay (talk) 22:07, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @GoodDay OK, will do. I'm curious why you deleted the map, undid the change, and then deleted it again? Alielmi1207 (talk) 22:28, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Initially, I mistakenly deleted the Cup champions below the photo. GoodDay (talk) 22:30, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

"Official URL" template
[edit]You left me a message about the "Official URL" template. I think you meant that for someone else. I don’t know anything about that template (other than that it exists) and I haven’t made, or reverted, any edits related to it. I find the overuse of the word "official" on Wikipedia tiresome anyway (while it is sometimes appropriate, people throw it around as though it adds credibility to every minute assertion). 1995hoo (talk) 17:28, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
Background colors on team tables
[edit]Responding to your question about the NFL page. I had to look back to last May to refresh my recollection. The discussion I recall about the issue was actually on the NHL article's talk page (see here: [1]) simply because I asked other users for their thoughts there, but the same principles apply. I don’t really know anything about the MOS guidelines' origins beyond what the users there said, but maybe you could ask one of them. I don’t know whether there is some sort of umbrella "sports articles" clearinghouse-type talk page, but I kind of doubt it because of different conventions for different sports (e.g., for baseball the infobox includes former stadiums, but for hockey it doesn’t, and apparently the reason is because the respective WikiProjects decided that). Sorry I can’t give you a clearer answer. 1995hoo (talk) 02:37, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
Arizona Cardinals founding date
[edit]"One of the oldest North American professional sports franchises, the Canadiens' history predates that of every other Canadian franchise outside the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts, as well as every American franchise outside baseball and the National Football League's Arizona Cardinals."
The foregoing text is derived directly from the Montreal Canadiens wiki page. However, if one was to follow the included wikilink (Major professional sports teams in the United States and Canada), the Cardinals have an establishment date of 1988. Do you see how this statement on the Canadiens' page cannot be corroborated without the edit I had made? Rubbaband Mang (talk) 14:11, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Rubbaband Mang I'm not disputing the original establishment date of the Cardinals. What I'm telling you is that the article specifically states:
- Est. represents the first year the team played in its current media market. For brevity, only the most recent names for teams that have had multiple nicknames in their current media market are listed.
- So, if you're going to change it for the Cardinals, then you need to change it for other teams that have relocated as well, not to mention listing their original team name.
- To give you an example, take a look at Atlanta Braves. You'll note that they were established as the Boston Red Stockings in 1871 and changed names seven times before becoming the Braves and then relocating to Milwaukee.
- On a related topic, I considered listing all the former names for a team, but using the Braves as an example again, I would have had to list nine former names, so I just left it as is, as the list seems to list only the most recent name in the former city.
- Finally, if you want to change the list, then post a topic on the article's Talk page so that consensus can be reached first. Assadzadeh (talk) 15:34, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- I decided to update the established date for all the teams listed Assadzadeh (talk) 06:50, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
