Blocking of 8-f4t-r4t-8

I noticed that you recently blocked them and protected the page he vandalized, but you forgot to enter the current status of the case at WP:AN3. Thanks for your help! BoxOfChickens (talk · contribs · CSD/ProD log) 21:30, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

ArmyMedicine account

Just curious why you blocked the ArmyMedicine account. WiiWillieWiki 02:51, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

The name reads like a role or group, not an individual. It violates Wikipedia:Username policy. The block was simple and a notice was left ont he user's talk page on why, and what to do about it. They have not responded. -- Alexf(talk) 11:27, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

I accidentally protected seconds after you. Feel free to reset to your length if you feel a week is inappropriate. BethNaught (talk) 15:44, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Nah. Leave it. Concerted attack will resume after anyways. Page watchlisted. We'll see. -- ~~

help please

good evening,

i was browsing the internet and i was curious and googled my name, however i sort of freaked out seeing there is a page with my name and some information about me on wikipedia. it does however say it has been deleted and will not be published which i can assure you i am quite happy about it. but i can still see it, and it freaks me out a little. here is the full url, is there a way to fully delete this page and link so no one ever including myself will be able to see it and read it?

http://wpedia.goo.ne.jp/enwiki/Wikipedia_talk%3AArticles_for_creation%2FRita_Moussa

thank you.

Hi, you recently deleted this page The_Ambassadorz. The new page I created is missing a letter The Ambassdorz and I would like to recreate the original page. The system said to contact you first. What is the best way to move the new, properly-sourced information to the old article page and delete the newer page while adhering to Wikipedia guidelines? Mrenytfall (talk) 04:05, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

I renamed (moved) to the correct title. Issue still persists the article does not assert notability under WP:MUSIC. Please that page in detail to see what is required. I marked the page for deletion. Please add proper reliable sources as soon as you can. -- Alexf(talk) 11:28, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Re: The Ambassadorz being considered for deletion...

Re: The Ambassadorz - I am still not sure how I can find better sources for referencing music producers than album liner notes and discographies. I added references to other pages which have them listed as producers or contributors on all works listed. These sources are the main informational pieces that catalog a music producer's work. Producers don't always do interviews, so finding news outlets to source can be difficult. I feel these producers are as notable as any other producer listed next to them in the albums listed and I would really like the decision to delete them to be reconsidered. Thank you. Mrenytfall (talk) 00:11, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

This is the wrong place to comment on this. As you forced the article to go to AfD, that is now the place to make your case heard. I pointed you earlier to the reliable sources explanation, and to the requirements for music-related notability. These pages tell you most of what you need to know. If you cannot find reliable sources (the pages I pointed you to explain all of this very clearly), maybe then this is not the time to write an article on them. There is no obligation to be in Wikipedia. This is an encyclopedia that only has notable subjects. If they are not notable, then try another venue, not here. When, and if, in the future, there are major publications that write about them, or they win a Grammy or similar, then you can try again. -- Alexf(talk) 01:40, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Possible username vio

Might this qualify as a username violation, or no? If not, then sorry for bothering you. Thanks, GABHello! 16:43, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Borderline. I am more concerned with his edits than the name. You may want to make a comment at ANI if you have an issue with the name, or just put it in UAA. -- Alexf(talk) 17:02, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
I recall some vandalism today from another user with a strikingly similar name, but not the same name. See User talk:Bill the Cosby. —BarrelProof (talk) 01:20, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
I added both names to UAA, as suggested. —BarrelProof (talk) 01:41, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Suitdummy block

Hi there, I see you blocked Suitdummy. Could you revert the block on the basis that it's not a spammy promotional account, rather someone acting in good faith, trying to add sources (even if they are themselves?). --Hawks Discuss edits 22:07, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

@Hawkseraph: Sorry but no. The block is soft. They can easily open a new account that follows the rules. If they want to request an unblock to change the name, or contest it, they can do so in their talk page. Clear instructions on how to do that were left there for that purpose. -- Alexf(talk) 22:53, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

You recently gave this user a username indefblock, with a message indicating that his edit (there is only one) was promotional. The edit was an image of Messier 31, which is a distant galaxy with the name as he correctly stated. I do not see any promotional edits, the name is not as far as I can see promotional, and his edit is valid. Am I missing something? --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:49, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

OK, I have now found his blog. It is informational, but does not seem to have any financial component; I guess it could be called promotional. He has requested unblock for username change; to save argument as to whether his name is or is not promotional, I am happy to unblock on this basis. Are you OK with this. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:55, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
@Anthony Bradbury: Ok - go ahead. Website and blog matched the name of the organization. Non-profit, benign it may be, but still in violation of the username rules, and not a reliable source to place here. -- Alexf(talk) 14:10, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
OK. To be fair, and to perhaps be flogging a dead horse, it was a username, not a source as such. I will unblock. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 21:08, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Quick question. I just stumbled upon this User and the named article. As a general rule of thumb in these situations, is it advisable to go back into the article and remove the offending edits? Maybe "offending" is a bit strong, but those that violate COI restrictions? I want to learn how to deal with these type of situations. Thanks! Buster Seven Talk 15:33, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

@Buster7: Generally it is ok. In this case the whole article is suspect. I have it marked to revisit when I have time later this morning (I'm at work). a) it is already stated to merge with the company's main article Horiba. b) I strongly suspect the wording used in this one is a copyvio. That's what I was planning to search on later, then tag it for CSD as such if warranted. You can do that search if you want. Appreciated. -- Alexf(talk) 15:37, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
@Alexf: I'm at work too---break. Rather than mess it up, I'll look over your shoulder and watch what you do. I assume by search you mean search on Google for plagerism? Later..... Buster Seven Talk 15:42, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
@Buster7: May not have the time. It is as easy as checking Google and doing some reading. If you see the text is very closely matching existing published text, and the website contains a conflicting license (e.g. copyright instead of CC-by-SA or PD -- or course it would be very rare to find a page with a suitable license for us), then tag it with a reference to the URL. -- Alexf(talk) 16:00, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
What about this page? It's clearly inspired, not sure if it's close enough to count as copyvio, though - specifically the HORIBA Medical Products section. --Hawks Discuss edits 17:00, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Will check later tonight. Buster Seven Talk 17:31, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

Block

Hello Alexf, I saw you blocked [1] (as he should be) but if I may be so impertinent, is three days not a bit short-ish for someone who makes this kind of personal attacks [2]? I realise it is an IP, may be someone else tomorrow. Horseless Headman (talk) 17:00, 12 February 2016 (UTC).

It's an IP. User is anonymous. I can't be sure the next user of this IP will be the same person. The general rule in this case is to put a short block (usually 24/31 hours). Due to the issue you mention, I made it longer. It is still the first block they have had. Let's wait and see. If they come back to the same, they will get a longer one. Any admin will do that after considering the situation. -- Alexf(talk) 17:04, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Ah yes, I recall reading about "escalating blocks" somewhere, depending on the situation etc. Yes, 3 days is already more than the shorter ones, indeed. It were easier if every IP was a static IP, but it is what it is. Cheers, Horseless Headman (talk) 17:28, 12 February 2016 (UTC).

Names

Hello Alexf, as you are regularly active at UAA and are a native English speaker, I wanted to ask if this [3] (new) name is "blatant" enough for UAA? I get confused sometimes how "bad" in english "butt" really is (okay, in this case the "sexy" likely does not help name creator :-). Should any name with "Butt" in it principally be reported (at least, if it seems to imply a bottom, indeed, not if it might be a string in a real name, or Butterfly etc.)? Thanks, Horseless Headman (talk) 14:56, 17 February 2016 (UTC).

Saw it earlier. I am not sure it is a serious vio and needs action. I would look at their edits (no issues when I looked earlier) and see what other admins think. Note: I am not an English "native speaker". In fact it is my second language but I have been in the USA for 35 years, so yes, I do speak (with an accent) but my grammar is good enough. -- Alexf(talk) 14:59, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Vale :-) Okay, so far no edits, and afaik it is maybe just so-so qua "blatantness". I will wait a day or so to see if it edits at all. Ah, sorry, I thought you were a native EN speaker as you listed EN on top of your languages in the infobox. Well, 35 years will do :-) Horseless Headman (talk) 15:51, 17 February 2016 (UTC). PS "6. Please do not write fake haiku or any haiku." People do/did that? I tried it once, it is awfully difficult anyways, I was hardly able to transmit my original thoughts because the form of it is more important. It should be forbidden as a way to discuss issues at/about WP itself :-) Horseless Headman (talk) 15:51, 17 February 2016 (UTC).
Haiku? For some reason they did often. I guess they found it funny. Many were awful. Got tired of it. That was long ago. -- Alexf(talk) 15:55, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

BirminghamAFA

Hi Alexf, I apologize for not notifying you beforehand, but I unblocked BirminghamAFA after they agreed to change their username. @Ohnoitsjamie: Ok as long as it is within the rules (i.e. no spamming his blog or webstite). -- Alexf(talk) 11:18, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Would you please stop adding text to other sections unrelated to your comment? and as you are at it please sign your posts in Talk page properly as required. Now to your questions:
He was vandalizing, and his actions show he is not here to help the project.
He was not banned, but Blocked.
If he wants to appeal the block, clear instructions were left in his user talk page. It is not for you to request on his behalf.
Note that the "my little brother did it" excuse does not hold water.
Also note I did not block you, someone else did. -- Alexf(talk) 16:34, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick blocks

Good to see that done so fast. Was the text I put on their pages OK? I have some saved texts covering these topics stored in a text file and feel it helps so the user gets a bit of explanation, possibly with a bit of time to read it before the block notice comes through. Blythwood (talk) 13:18, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Which one? You should include a link to it, as these are done dozens of time a day unfortunately. They never stop reading, understanding, and following policy. -- Alexf(talk) 13:26, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, here and here. No major problem, I just want to check I'm doing the right thing. Blythwood (talk) 13:29, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
I see. The wording seems alright, but note that it refers to conflicts of interest. They are blocked for violation of the [WP:USERNAME|username policy]], as the names used are the names of their companies. -- Alexf(talk) 14:54, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Question

Actually I did not know rules and regulations of wikipedia. And I still do not know rules and regulations of wikipedia very well. I have seen that a youtube video of Sheikh Imran Hosein is added as external link in pageMasih_ad-Dajjal. So I have also added my youtube video as external link in wikipedia. Previously I have added a pdf file in list of external links. But that link is also removed. Now I am confused about what is an acceptable link for listing in the external link of wikipedia. I am trying to provide some additional information to readers. Now I am interested to add this link, which is https://abdullahfaruq.wordpress.com, in list of external links of Mahdi page. Now is this acceptable ? This time I want to make sure that it is acceptable before editing wikipedia so you can not object to me later. My writing contains highly reliable text. You can verify it with someone, who knows very well about this subject. And what is wrong if my writing is self-published ? If the problem is with publishing on my blog or google drive or youtube channel then is it going to solve the problem if I publish it on someone else blog or google drive or website or youtube channel ? How are you going to accept one single paragraph of mine as linkable to list of external links of any page of wikipedia ? I guess wikipedia editors do response to this kind of questions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abdullahfaruqibnibrahimy (talkcontribs) 20:43, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Wrong place to ask. Read about Reliable Sources (hint: YouTube and your blog aren't), and ask questions at the Tea House. Also please do not mess up other people's talk pages, always start a new section for new issues, always say what you are referrign to, as here you start talking as i I would know your subject. Considering I edit hundreds of pages a day, it is not likely. Please do not put external links for internal pages, and always sign your posts in talk pages. -- Alexf(talk) 23:18, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

DMoorcroft (talk) 15:53, 26 February 2016 (UTC) Thanks, Alex. As you would suspect, I'm completely new to Wiki from this side. My(QMR's) role in helping to shape the discussion and development has been longstanding.

I look to developing worthwhile content.

Speedy Deletion of Kno.e.sis Wikipedia Page

Kno.e.sis.

Hi, I noticed that you deleted the page I created Kno.e.sis. Can I please know the reasons for deletion and any suggestions you have to resolve issues so that the page is up. Thanks for your help! Pavankaps (talk) 18:49, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

I thought the nominator had left a notice in your user talk page explaining the reasons (wait: just checked; they did). If you disagreed, you are supposed to contest it before deletion. The page was overly promotional, and borderline notable. If you want it restored to your sandbox to work on it, it can be done. -- Alexf(talk) 00:51, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Alex. I have addressed "the overly promotional" and "notability" issues and modified the content in a user temp page PavanKaps/Knoesis. Since this is my first attempt, it would be of great help if you can review the page for me and help me publish it as a Wikipedia article. Note that Section Reviewing purposes only in the page are points that I have considered and modified in comparison to the deleted version. This section will be deleted before publishing the article. Thanks for your time. Pavankaps (talk) 06:28, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Request for page reinstatement

Hello Alexf! Unfortunately the page I just created Sycamore Grove (Band) a few moments ago was speedily deleted. I'd like to see what I can do to have it reinstated. I just read through the "A7" reason description that states that I failed to impart importance in my article. I had started the page with just a few base-line sentences in hopes to build it as I gain more detailed information from the band.

The band I'm attempting to document has played large venues (House of Blues) with national, major label acts (Collective Soul, Better Than Ezra), received regional radio airplay and has toured the East Coast of the US. Although, they never were signed to a national label. Is there a way to impart and document the importance of their albums, tours, shows and musical contributions to their fans in a way that will pass the standards of the "A7" deletion rationale?

Any help you can provide is appreciated - thanks!

"16:41, 11 March 2016 Alexf (talk | contribs) deleted page Sycamore Grove (Band) (A7: Article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble, which does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject)"

-Steve (Stephengossin (talk) 17:23, 11 March 2016 (UTC))

It is not importance but notability that has to be asserted. The main requirements are in the linked page. In short, for any article to be in Wikipedia it has to pass the Golden Rule. This one didn't. If you think you can create an article on a notable subject, don't do it in the live encyclopedia as you saw it disappears rather fast. Do it in a subpage and if in doubt ask questions at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 17:42, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Deletion

My article suits A7 : musicuan article rules. Why did you delete it? Ebrumarbling (talk) 17:47, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

The article is? You have not linked to it (requested in point #1 at the top of the edit page), so I can't respond. As a general rule, when deleting I put an edit summary that briefly explains it. Have you read it? If it was a speedy deletion (CSD), it is customary for the requester to leave a notice in the original editor's page (did you get one?). Note that although you may be the original creator, or even the sole contributor, this does not make it your article. Please take a look at all of this and come back if you have questions about it. -- Alexf(talk) 17:51, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

re blocking user and removing reference

With all due respect, my user name type550 has been blocked due to referencing content on the 550 Spyder page. The content under 'racing history' has been copied directly from my type550.com website word for word. If you do not wish to include my website as the original source of the content and myself as the author, please remove the content from the wiki page as it would then be infringement of copyright. regards Andrew Hosking — Preceding unsigned comment added by AndrewHosking (talkcontribs) 11:26, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

WhyPayMore Dental Speedy Deletion

Hello! I'm reaching out in regards to a speedy deletion for WhyPayMore_Dental

I am hoping to get this page up and running. Not sure if I have enough sources?

Is there anything I can do?

Thanks

Please restore

Alexf, would you kindly restore Clinton Anderson (horse trainer)? You failed to prod tag or notify any of us who were working on the article. It was a stub, but this is a notable individual. A clear case of WP:DONOTDEMOLISH. You would have been better advised to have notified the editors first. Montanabw(talk) 05:52, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Alexf. Hope you don't mind, I have restored the article and moved it to draft space, Draft:Clinton Anderson (horse trainer). Material from Mr Anderson's website had to be removed as copyvio. — Diannaa (talk) 12:48, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Page Deleted, and bloked.

Good Afternoon Alexf,

I am contacting you because i guess a page i created was deleted, i wasn't aware of these rules you mention until now. I am more then willing to comply with everything you need me to to in order to resolve this matter ASAP.

The main problem i guess the deleted page is causing me that i am more concerned with right now, is that now it affects my personal biography i created and posted. It's making now show up in the search engines of the site like before.

This was the link to my bio: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Jim._Jewels

But for some odd reason it's linked to an article i wrote about one of my companies that you deleted.

Please HELP FIX this issue, i will do again what ever is required to fix and follow your guidelines and i also can guarantee you that something like this will never happen again.

Thank You, Jimmy Jules (Jim. Jewels (talk) 20:51, 2 April 2016 (UTC))

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Av LMKR

I attempted to create Av's Wikipedia page a few years back but lacked the certified resume references. Since then He has gotten many more references that will allow him to be credible now. Please allow me to pull up my past information and add to it. Thanks David Lindley 323 684-5026Bigqluso (talk) 18:37, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Following your recommendation - Before I write a new article (egta - trade association of TV & Radio Sales houses)

Dear Alex, This is a comment for the following page : https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=EGTA_%28advertising%29&action=edit&redlink=1 I have read with much attention all your tips and all the specifications to edit a Wikipedia article. I even recently attended a seminar giving indications how to deal with deleted articles for associations like ourselves who are desperate at not understanding why our articles keep on being deleted. So I am not following the procedure you recommend, hoping to repair the mistake we made in the past: > I am now write under my real name (i.e. Anne-Laure D.C. (talk) 08:23, 27 May 2016 (UTC)Anne-Laure D.C. instead of Anne-Laure D.C. (talk) 08:23, 27 May 2016 (UTC)egta trade association) > I am write to you first before trying to rewrite the same article (please note that I have edited this article to make sure that it is neutral and fact based and not making promotion, nor advertising) May I ask you therefore to consider reopening our article as I had written it a few months ago...? Or would you prefer that I rewrite one entirely with this new editor profile? > I am not sure if our article was blocked only because of the mistake i made in the editors name.. or if you had something to reproach content wise too?

Please note about us: > we are a non profit trade association. I am doing my best to work correctly in the Communications Department to represent us, but I am not an expert or a consultant whose sole aim is to do that. I am therefore calling to your tolerance, please. > We exist since 40 years, are legally registered under the Belgian law. I had even made a link to our profile on the "Belgian Monitor" (is that of any help)?

Thank you very much in advance for your help and support and for what you do for this community. I am a bit believer in Wikipedia... personally even donated a few times as I understand the need for more resources... but now after years of trying to figure out how to properly and sustainably having our page on here, I am a bit desperate. I trust this time we have figured it out! Thank you again! Anne-Laure D.C. (talk) 08:23, 27 May 2016 (UTC)Anne-Laure D.C. , 27/05/2016

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Alexf. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Beartrap records

Hi Alex, the page for beartrap records has been deleted. I need it to be re-stored and I will add any necessary citations to the page. Thank you!!

Jillian WilsonJillianwilsonmbn (talk) 18:08, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Not much to restore. The page had only one line:
"beartrap records is an American record label, focused predominantly on hip hop and EDM music. It was created by recording artist Blackbear in 2015. Current producers include Rad Cat, Tarro, Sevnth."
No sources whatsoever to assert notability. Please read WP:MUSIC to understand the requirements, or ask for help at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 18:19, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
