Wikilinks, while desirable, contribute nothing toward establishing a person's notability. What is needed is at least three references to published content, but ideally, ALL FACTUAL STATEMENTS in an article about a person should be verified by references. Ref format

[edit]

Putting a URL inside single brackets as a reference is wrong. Minimally, add the item's title inside the single brackets, as I did for ref #3. However, Help:Referencing for beginners gives advice on how to create proper refs. David notMD (talk) 10:51, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your advice. I’ll follow up. 45.16.200.55 (talk) 13:40, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your submission at Articles for creation: George Ockner (October 14)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:07, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The article on George Ockner has been rejected.  I have two issues needing assistance.  First, I was told the editor could not access the New York Times obituary of George Ockner.  Since this is behind a firewall but I have access to it, how can I actually provide the article to Wikipedia editors?  I have seen other references to NYT obits on other people's Wikipedia pages.  Please advise.
The second thing I would like to discuss is that many of George Ockner's musician colleagues who worked with him in the recording industry during the 1950s and 1960s have Wikipedia pages, and some of them have fewer verifiable sources listed and no monographs or works entirely devoted to them. I wonder why there is this discrepancy in Wikipedia standards for articles.  I would be happy to give you a list of these other artists.  I also might be able to supply more information on Ockner. Thank you for your consideration. ~~~~ Ajo47 (talk) 21:19, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, please see other stuff exists. (I intended this to appear after Clarityfiend's kind offer.) David10244 (talk) 11:11, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can post his colleagues here, and I will evaluate them. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:08, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I thought had already posted links to some of his colleagues' articles on my talk page. But I cannot find that, so here are some names of his colleagues in the various stages of his career. Most of them were either in the Glenn Miller Orchestra with him or worked in the recording studio orchestras in the 1950s and 1960s, or both:
David Nadien  Pass I found a Time magazine article. That plus his New York Times obituary (paywalled), his Leventritt Competition win and various other sources are sufficient to attest to his notability.
Bernie Privin  Pass A New York Times obituary is generally considered sufficient to establish notability, though I'm bothered by the fact that I couldn't find much else.
https://www.colorado.edu/amrc/sites/default/files/attached-files/gmbs_aaf_1943-2018_0.pdf (Ockner is mentioned on this site)
A single mention in passing is not worth much. However, see below for my second thoughts.
Harvey Shapiro (musician)  Fail I'm not seeing much coverage here, not much more than an Interlude article.
Bernard Greenhouse  Pass New York Times and The Guardian obituaries.
Percy Faith  Pass You're kidding, right? Well-known performer with two Grammys and seven nominations!
David Schwartz (violist)  Fail The Los Angeles Times obituary is paid for, and there isn't much else.
Ajo47 (talk) 15:48, 20 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Second thoughts. As with Privin, an obituary in The New York Times is generally considered enough for an article, so upon further consideration, my verdict is probably unjustified. However, I couldn't read it nor could I find much other substantial notice. So, I'm going to suggest you reapply, and hopefully someone will review it who can evaluate the NYT article. Clarityfiend (talk) 01:45, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have nominated Shapiro and Schwartz for deletion. Clarityfiend (talk) 13:47, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
