Contest scoring change
I've realized there may be an issue with the scoring system, and I have a solution, which I've explained here. Feedback is requested. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 23:52, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Re:Question
Hey there. No, you did not always have to have an account to create articles. This was changed in 2005 as a result of the Wikipedia biography controversy, in an effort to improve the Reliability of Wikipedia. There are some old Signpost articles on the subjst: Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2005-12-05/Page creation restrictions, Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2006-12-04/Seigenthaler revisited. If you're interested in other aspects of the History of Wikipedia, check out the links in Template:Wikipedia. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 01:22, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Rm of red cats
Hi there. Thanks for going around vacuuming red links. However, it would be nice if you waited a few minutes, so article creators have time to actually create all the red categories, such as Category:People from Ringerike that I created one minute after creating Bjørn Kjos. Thanks for your understanding, and happy editing. Arsenikk (talk) 21:46, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

MacBook US price
I see your price edit, but I do have an issue at it’s sold worldwide with Apple themselves having stores in multiple countries. Thus the computer has varied ‘base prices’. The article used to list these, but another admin removed them as Wikipedia is not a price list or a collection of random information. See WP:NOPRICES for rational on this. Rfa
I closed my Rfa about an hour ago and left a strongly worded closing statement. I wanted to make sure that you know that I did not mean it in reference to you. Your remarks were kind and supportive and I am very appreciative. I, for the most part, left the message that I did because I felt that I offered a legitimate suggestion to be taken into consideration for future Rfa's that was dismissed because I was power-hungry, an accusation that I am deeply resent. In any case, I hope to see you around the encyclopedia.

your edit of the Marius Weyers article
I searched for Marius Weyers appearance on "The Golden Girls" Sunday morning to discover that its reference on Wikipedia had been removed by your edit earlier that morning.
Your edit claims to be for the purposes of "wikify, reference, cleanup, and expand."
Is part of the cleanup to remove references to some of his acting credits? Or did your cleanup start with an earlier version that did not have these references?
I understand that there have been some new rules (and even maybe some long-standing rules) about editing articles for living persons. I don't know how these rules or other wiki standards apply to what type of acting credits to include in an article. I just know that the particular tidbit of I was looking for yesterday was pointed to by google on Wikipedia but had been removed that morning.
(Is this an appropriate way to inquire about editing standards you've applied?) LamoniDave (talk) 11:53, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- Whoa, I'll go check it out. I don't recall removing a ref. Sorry if I did :(. Respond in a bit! Regards, Airplaneman talk 15:58, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- What has been removed? I added 3 references and 1 external link, as can be seen here. I removed an unsourced opinion, which was, "He is one of South Africa's most decorated actors" and rewrote his filmography into list form. OH, I SEE... I did remove the refernce to his acting in The Golden Girls because it was a guest appearance according to the article. I decided instead to add an external link to his total filmography instead of listing it all. Airplaneman talk 16:05, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, this was the reference that I had searched for. Since it's not a "film," it apparently does not get included in the "filmography" listing from your link. I did find his appearance on this episode of The Golden Girls listed in the "Actor - TV" section at this link.LamoniDave (talk) 22:45, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
By all means, add it if you think it's appropriate. I removed it only because he appeared only in one episode. Regards, Airplaneman talk 20:33, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
Removal of PROD from Battle of Sumatovac
Hello Airplaneman, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Battle of Sumatovac has been removed. It was removed by Phil Bridger with the following edit summary '(add source and contest prod - a Google Books search shows clear notability)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Phil Bridger before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. Thanks for Welcoming Me
I appreciate your friendly welcome. I still have LOTS To learn about Wikipedia, but am willing to be a team player. I will always try to remember to type the four tildes, and explain my edits. Sometimes I get on a roll and forget. Can you help me better understand how to add references such as books, periodicals and websites? I have been typing them in manually but I guess that there are standard templates for that. I also need to learn how to find images that are OK to use, and also how to properly categorize images I upload. Thanks for whatever help you can offer. Jim Heaphy (talk) 21:33, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Welcome
It is wonderful to see new names in our little organization, can I ask how you heard about ARS?
Hi, Airplaneman, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you. And once again - Welcome! Ikip (talk) 00:44, 7 October 2009 (UTC) |
- Heh, as far as I can remember, I was looking into some sort of evidence that someone provided to justify their "Oppose" vote in an RfA. Anyhow, I ran into your userpage (oh yea, I think it was an RfC I found you at). That's where I heard of it-your userpage. I also remember asking to use that "don't bite the newbies" poster at the top of my talk page. As for the rescue squad, I won't be too active now (school), but I'll help out when I can. I know how it feels to get an article (two, actually) deleted! Thanks for the welcome, Ikip! Airplaneman talk 00:50, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information, always interesting to see how people come to the ARS. It took me THREE years to find it. I have about 3000 edits deleted, so I know how it feels too. Any help would be great. I love sourcing articles I am interested in, and trying to help newbies in the process. I will really look forward to working with you in the future! I am trying to source the Leonardo Da Vinci article now. Ikip (talk) 00:54, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

pittsburgh flash fiction gazette
Hi, Thanks for your note abut the reason for proposed deletion of the pittsburgh flash fiction gazette. I am fairly new to editing and am learning as I go along what makes a good page and what doesn't. Anyway, I see this web site has quite a lot of traffic, and gets mentioned regularly when online flash fiction sites come up. If it doesn't qualify as a page on it's own, can it be at the least mentioned in the flashfiction page? I have some sites that mention it: http:// bookstove .com /book-talk/writing-sexy-flash-fiction/ http:// writinghood . com/writing/writing-flash-fiction-and-keeping-a-journal/ http://dossierjournal.com/read/fiction/the-watcher-fiction-by-tm-de-vos/ http://www.cityofasylumpittsburgh.org/SearchResults/WritersintheGardens2008/tabid/56/Default.aspx
I mean, seeing how it is essentially an online magazine that posts fiction, and hasn't been around that long, it isn't going to be in the Norton Anthology! I understand if it doesn't make the cut for a new page but I think the hits it gets vs. others on the flash fiction page justify it being noted somewhere. Thanks again.

Thanks for your help. As I said, I'm still learning the ropes with editing. Is their any way you can remove the speedy deletion notice on it? I don't know who this works, but it has some references now and it looks good.
Jim Steele (talk) 23:34, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
- It got deleted. I'll contest it and ask an administrator to restore it to User:Jimsteele9999/Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette so you can work on it. You can then move it to the article namespace by removing the prefixes and leaving the title (use the "move" tab on the wiki-toolbar). How's that sound? I won't be around starting in a few minutes (heading off to sleep) for the rest of the week, so please ask... hmmm... NW for help. Thanks, Airplaneman talk00:12, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. I think it looks better now. Is there any way you can restore it? I am still learning the ropes here...
Jim Steele (talk) 19:04, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
- To restore it, all you have to do is click on the "move" tab on the toolbar at the top of the page (where the "edit" tabs and stuff are). Then, remove the "User:Jimsteele9999/" part of the title in the "new name" input section. You're left with "Pittsburgh Flash Fiction Gazette". Give the reason for your move. Then you're all set! Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Happy editing! Airplaneman talk 00:26, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Done. Thanks gor the help. If you can please place that page on a watchlist in case it is proposed for deletion again. I will definately need your help!

Revision of Rabbit
I have no idea why these sections were removed. I could find no reason on the talk page or of the talk page of the remover. Bad sections should be cleaned up, not removed
Rabbit has suffered a chronic quality problem of "bunny owners" entering their personal opinions in a very non-encyclopedic way. In addition, there has been a lot of confusion about the distinction between Rabbit and European rabbit. There is an (relatively) expansive section on behaviour in European rabbit - remember that there are other species of rabbits with different behaviours from Oryctolagus, and the Rabbit page is dedicated to all of them. I do not feel that a general statement like "Rabbits have a complex social structure, and like dogs, will attempt to establish a hierarchy and dominance" adds to the utility of the page, but if you wish to and have time to expand it, that would be great. Arikk (talk) 05:57, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, by all means, I wish to expand it. It's on my to-do list (somewhere above). Please consider cleaning up bad sections instead of removing them in the future unless they aren't notable. I see why the phrase is misleading-that's why I added an unsourced tag to the section. But, I wish to keep the info there, with a warning, until verifiability can be established. New to Wiki Please Help
Hello Airplaneman,
I am new to Wiki and I want to make sure I do NOT do anything wrong. I have created a page for Dickson "DOC" Hendley and have a couple questions. I have spoken to Doc and he would like me to change the title of the page from Dickson "Doc" Hendley to just Doc Hendley, how do i do this? Any help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks again.

- Here's how!:
- Put an infobox for the box of information, in this case, {{infobox person}}. Click on the blue link to go there and copy the contents onto the very beginning of the page. Fill it out. It's OK to leave stuff blank, it'll just be hidden.
- Look at the toolbar on the top of the page. Click on the "move" tab. You can then rename the page. Don't forget to give a reason!
- If you want, I can help you do these things. Feel free to ask anymore questions, and happy editing :). Airplaneman talk19:17, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

No rescue squad, just me and Thaddeus. I had brought this article back from deletion with only 2 sources and I built it to what it is now. This is only my second article and first Afd argument. I feel snowballed but the non-sensical arguments of Epbr123 and Hullaballoo and very frustrated that certain key policies, especially concerning interviews are primary sources, need to be changed. -Stillwaterising (talk) 05:12, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
