Barnstar
[edit]I have been checking your contributions from time to time. The newsletter is great and I have even noticed the improvement on your user page. I must admit that I am very impressed with your work around here and therefore it is with great pleasure that I, Tony the Marine, present you Boricuaeddie with the original "Boricua Barnstar". Keep up the excellent workTony the Marine 02:53, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Hi there. You may want to indicate to the IP that wrote this article that you are planning on tagging it for speedy deletion, as they are more likely to have the information necessary. I believe this artist is notable, although the article does not sufficiently indicate such in its current state. On the other hand, you may want to hold off for a while for the article to be improved. Thanks!--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 15:24, 1 July 2007 (UTC) P.S.--Thank you for pointing out my error in categorization using the template.--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 15:27, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
My RfA
[edit]Thank you for participating in my RfA. It was successful, and I am now, may God have mercy on us all, an administrator. Look at all the new buttons! I had heard about 'protect,' 'block user,' and 'delete,' but no one told me about 'kill,' 'eject,' and 'purée.' I appreciate the trust the community has in me, and I'll try hard not to delete the main page or block Jimbo. -FisherQueen (Talk) 17:57, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
My recent RfB
[edit]Thank you so much for your participation in my recent RfB. Though it closed with 72% support (below the required 90%), I'm still quite pleased at the outpouring of support shown by a fair percentage of the community.
I'm currently tabulating and calculating all opposing and neutral arguments to help me better address the community's concerns about my abilities as a bureaucrat. If you'd like, you can follow my progress (and/or provide additional suggestions) at User:EVula/admin/RfB notes. Thanks again! EVula // talk // ☯ // 04:30, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

RE: The duck names Howard
[edit]It's okay I wasn't saying you bit him, just that blocking him might be biting, so it was a comment directed more at the admin who would (I feel) have been in the wrong for blocking him, rather than you. My talk page
[edit]I blank my talk page for issues that are no longer pending. Edit my page one more time and I'll consider it vandalism. --Pasajero 23:00, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Actually I was talking about your reverts every time I blank my page (unless in case of obvious vandalism by other users). --Pasajero 23:09, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
You have no right to prohibit what Wikipedia allows. Just keep that in mind. --Pasajero 23:16, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wikipedia allows users to blank their own talk page therefore you have no right to revert such an edit. By doing so you are imposing your own rules contrary to those of Wikipedia. --Pasajero 23:22, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Read WP:REVERT under "Do" & "Do not". --Pasajero 23:25, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- "Discouraging the blanking talk pages" is not the same thing as prohibiting it. Your claim of "bad faith" on my part is just a matter of bad timing. I had maintained my talk page intact for quite some time and just recently (not even a month ago) decided to blank it. If you want to keep on believing that I'm trying to hide something then that's your choice. With regards to the images, if they meet Wikipedia's criteria for deletion then so be it. --Pasajero 23:37, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Since I can't provide proof they have been released into the public domain their copyright status has been corrected. Most likely they can all be replaced by free images so it wouldn't be wrong to assume that they meet the criteria for deletion. --Pasajero 23:44, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

RfB mania! :)
[edit]Actually, dear Eddie, there were 6 RfBs today for a while, before Majorly stepped down ;) Trust me, nobody, and I do mean nobody, had ever seen anything like that, ever. It certainly proves that the community has changed its opinion that we didn't need more bureaucrats, and I believe some of our senior members, who had been holding of for a while exactly for that reason, understood this change in the general perception and decided this was the best time to run for it. I'm convinced that we will get at least two, maybe three new bureaucrats from this process, which will satisfy our needs for at least a whole year, if not more. Don't forget to have your say at all of them! :) Love you, and have a beautiful 4th of July, amigo mio! Phaedriel - 18:04, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Dear Eddie
[edit]Dear Eddie, I don't know exactly what led you to take this decision, but let me tell you, I understand how you're feeling, and therefore it is with sadness that I have complied with your wishes. Please, however, if you request an unblock after meditating a little, know that I'll grant it without thinking it twice.
In the time we've talked, and shared, I've grown very fond of your presence, and I deeply admire all the excellent work you've done to make others feel appreciated, while not distracting yourself from the goal of building our project. No matter what's saddening you now, know that it will pass, dear Eddie - the importance of this encyclopedia is far greater than any of us individually, something that I see you understand; and in this bigger picture, you have a great role. You've become an excellent member of our community, and that's something we all know, and value, and we're grateful beyond words to you. Smile, friend; know we love you, and respect you. I'll be waiting for you to come back... and the sooner, the better. Love, Phaedriel - 12:44, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi there;l My comment at User:E's RfA was in no sense meant to be critical, and please accept my apologies if that is hoe it came across. You may note that I have changed my !vote on the RfA inquestion to approve.
An ongoing, persisting and universal probleb on wikipedia is that it is not possible to indicate intonation on talk pages, and it is therefore easy to take offence where none was intended. I have no solution to this problem; I only ask editors to be aware of it, and to be generous in their interpretation of comments posted to them. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 23:40, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Wiki hurt
[edit]A statement, just for the record and for your information; I do not accept that in your involvement in wikipedia you have been in any way harmful to the project. I say this as one who spends about five hours daily here, and can find no evidence of damage. I hope to see you back soon. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 23:45, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Intonation
[edit]No problem. I was just making the point, which you must surely already be aware of, that in communication by typed word only it is frighteningly easy to convey the wrong impression. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 23:50, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Mess up
[edit]Sure, you have at times messed up. At times I both as an editor and as an admin have messed up. We all make mistakes, and so long as we learn fronm them all is well. The important thing with mistakes is to learen from them, move on from them, and not to pointlessly agonise over them. IO have made mistakes, both as an editor and as an admin. But this works for me. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 00:01, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Please reconsider
[edit]Eddie, I don't believe we have really interacted much before but please let me be the first person to ask you to reconsider your retirement. I have noticed you around Wikipedia on numerous occasions and have always been impressed with your politeness and overall attitude. We all make mistakes in life, on Wikipedia and elsewhere, and we learn from them and become better as a result. You are most certainly not damaging Wikipedia more than you are helping it. Lots of people appreciate your hard work here, even if they don't always get a chance to tell you that. If you still decide to leave, I wish you all the best in the future, but I really hope that you will reconsider. Your efforts here are valued, and you will certainly be missed if you do go. Very best regards. Will (aka Wimt) 16:00, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Eddie! I saw the exchange on the Che Guevara talk page--they were accusing you of being a sock of Ed Poor!?! If you check into the history of Ed Poor, he was a former bureaucrat here, with quite a distinguished history (whether you agree with his actions or not, he definitely has made an impact on Wikipedia)! You could take a look at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Ed Poor for more information. I would definitely take that accusation with a grain of salt, if not a whole saltshaker's worth. In any case, it sounds like you have been deeply hurt by some of the things people have said to you here, and for that I am saddened. I do applaud your judgement however, in that if Wikipedia is causing you stress and pain, then it is probably a good thing for you to instead focus on things that make you happy. I'd like it if you didn't decide to retire forever though, and would be happy to welcome you back if and when the time comes.--Xnuala (talk)(Review) 17:28, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

P.S. To those who don't know why I've decided to leave, I'll tell you. During my time here, I've been the subject of ageist comments, political attacks, I've been accused of being a sockpuppet several times, the most recent being today, for just trying to help out, I have been yelled at for not assuming good faith, while the yeller didn't assume good faith, and many more things. I would never do anything to hurt Wikipedia, and as a Catholic, I am hurt by the fact that people believe I have lied to destroy other people's work. I cannot continue being part of a community if not every one is willing to be a community. Eddie 17:16, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Therefore, I'll be emailing you in the next hours, and hopefully we can get to talk by Gmail. Meanwhile, know this: the silliness of one person, acussing you unfairly, is nothing in the context of the fantastic work you've done, of all the effort you've put into making others feel appreciated and valued, of your patience, your kindness, your dedication... your love for this project. You have not failed us; if anything, we've failed you, by not letting you know how much your presence is needed. I hope it's not too late. I'll see you at your mailbox, and please, please don't be sad - you're too valuable to feel down over this. Love, Phaedriel - 09:35, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
My friend Eddie
[edit]You made me laugh when commented my "Pa'l carajo", but now I find that you are "retiring". Look, Eddie we need excellent contributors like you here so, do not let a minor skirmish get you down. Let me tell you something, recently I went through a situation here and I was even stripped of my admin powers, I was about to retire myself, but I found out that there were more users in the community that were my friends then I ever thought possible.
I found out that my contributions in Wikipedia are helping to change the negative impression that people have of Puerto Ricans. People from all walks of life have congartulated me for my work, including Historians, Politicians and the Pentagon. What I'm trying to tell you is to do what you were doing best in Wikipedia. Do what gave you pleasure. It is people like you that we need here, to help educate others.
Of course you may have had some problems, but that is what we your friends are here for, to help you solve these problems. Reconsider your retirement and I will be by your side when ever you need me. Tony the Marine 00:23, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wow, its a shame man I personally believe that your contributions are certainly of great value here, it was especially good having the project newsletter in my talk page when I came back from my break, today Wikipedia lost a great Puerto Rican and a great editor, though I can undestand your choice and I respect it, I sincerely wish you the best of luck in life, Peace. -凶 04:42, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Sorry man! But rules are rules...--Cerejota 06:29, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- 1) It is not enough to provide a fair use rationale, but the rationale must fit the allowed ones. None of the rationale you provided do. Please re-read WP:NFC, and it should become clear.
- 2) I am not implying you *stole* the image. Please cool down. I am saying your fair use rationale is not a good one. No one owns content in wikipedia, and simply doing housekeeping cannot be taken as a personal attack, and since we always assume good faith, and you have no reason to believe otherwise in my case, you cannot possibly construe malice on my part. There is none.
- 3) WP:DTTR is an opinion essay, not a policy or guideline. I disagree with it, because it creates an artificial separation between editors, so I am under no obligation to follow it.
- 4) Why are you responding in such a hostile manner?
--Cerejota 13:50, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Eddie, you seem to be confusing something: labeling an image non-free for reasons of copyright doesn't mean that I am accusing you of violating the law: Wikipedia is not a moot court. If you cannot take my word for it, please ask an administrator with experience in these things. Perhaps even Jimbo Wales himself. What I do care about is wikipedia including non-free images that might hold us liable when someone exercises the commercial rights allowed under GFDL. This is not personal, and it is not about laws. --Cerejota 14:09, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

AFC Backlog Drive!
[edit]WikiProject AFC is holding a one month long assessment drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running from July 15, 2007 – August 15, 2007.
Awards to be won range from delicacies such as the WikiCookie to barnstars.
There is a backlog of more than one year, so start reviewing articles! Visit the drive's page and help out!
This drive was organized by GrooveDog in an attempt to terminate that nasty backlog.

Want to judge the best userpage contest
[edit]I noticed that you played the best userpage contest and came with a score of 100/100, this makes you eligible for judging. Tell me if you want to judge. Thanks. Marlith 23:23, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Not necessarily. I modeled it after Portal:Cuba, another featured portal. But I think we can find a happy medium. How about Puerto Rico in the news... ? - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 00:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Coqui
[edit]Hello Eddie,
I'm Hirohisat (you should be able to know it from my sig, though), and I live in Hawaii. Seeing that you live in Puerto Rico, I wanted to ask you what Coquis mean to Puerto Ricans. Over here in Hawaii, people complain about Coquis at night (I love to hear them, though), but wanted a different point of view like from people that knows Coqui longer than us. Takk for your time! Hirohisat Talk 06:13, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thankyou for your explanation. I did a school project on coquis recently, and I was wondering what Puerto Ricans thought while people in Hawaii are desperate to control them with caffeine or whatever. I think that's cruel, but anyways takk for the explanation! --Hirohisat Talk 05:26, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
- P.S.That message barely made any sense, did it?
Closing AFDs
[edit]Please don't close AFDs as delete, especially if you are looking at an RFA as there has been prior RFAs that either failed or barely passed because of the user doing the same thing you doing. It's normally frowned upon. Just let the admins do it. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 19:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
That was just recently added, I will comment on that on the talk page. Jaranda wat's sup 20:07, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- I was intending to say the same thing as Jaranda, above, regarding your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PAS-37Q. Sandstein 21:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, technically, if it's a unanimous "delete" or "keep", anyone can close. —« ANIMUM » 22:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for contacting me, Eddie. Sorry, but Jaranda is right about this. Non-admins should only close AfD discussions if the result after the 5 day period is an unanimous "keep". Closing them as "delete" is actually ineffective, as non-admins cannot delete anything. But by all means, please do keep closing "keep" discussions. :-) Best regards, Húsönd 00:53, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Querido Eddie!
la garzota gentil de tus palmares;
Que pareces en medio de la bruma
al que llega a tus playas peregrinas,
una ciudad fantástica de espuma
que formaron jugando las ondinas.
Have a beautiful day, querido amigo! (and thank you so much for the beautiful coqui, and the wonderful email!) ;)

WikiProject Articles for creation
[edit]We are one week in to the drive, and it's already going fantastic. Numerous days of backlogs have been tackled, with hundreds of articles having been reviewed. We do, however, have some news!
First off, a HUGE congratulations to everyone participating so far. I understand some members are inactive due to vacation, but we are still making great progress.
Secondly, make sure that before you go off and review old submissions, that you review all submissions for the present day, and the day before, so that we aren't actually making a bigger backlog, by letting submissions get archived while we're checking stuff from 2006.
Third, remember to update your running total, on the drive page. Honesty is the best policy, so if you lie about the number of articles you've reviewed, we'll all make angry faces while looking at your userpage.
And, last, if you have any questions about the drive, feel free to ask me, or any other members of the project.
Great job, everyone! We're going to get that backlog!

[edit]Crap! I didn't realize. Should I delete the notes I left or just not do it again? I'm really sorry; I felt a little funny about it and almost didn't do it, but I figured that, since I wasn't trying to stack the deck in my favor, it would be OK. I certainly won't do it again. - I just read WP:CANVAS, and since I didn't post my message to very many people (only 12), rather than spend time striking out each message and wasting more WP resources, I'm just going to leave them. (unless you feel strongly otherwise). I mean, they'll see the message either way, anyhow. Let me know if you disagree, and I'll take care of it right away. Please don't miscontrue this note. I do feel bad for the breach of policy (or at least etiquette) and will not do it again. Pr 2.0 16:31, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for participating in the AFC Backlog Drive.
I noticed your tally is at 0. As soon as you edit 1 article not only are you eligible for a Sandwich of Exceptional Excellence, but you'll be among the dirty dozen that are cleaning up the backlog. Please find one of the backlog pages in this list and review at least one of the submissions, then update your totals. Every review helps! davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:34, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Unusual Adoption Request
[edit]Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.
Thank you!

Are you implying that I am a sockpuppet?
[edit]The reason I had no other edits outside of Eugene Rowan, was that I am a new wikiuser. Of course I will only have few edits! I have several edits now and you dont need to worry, you can checkuser me. By the way, If I was his sockpuppet why would I vote "Delete"?
Apology accepted, you assumed that I was a sockpuppet, but we are all human.

P.S. I went to a Jesuit School as well. James Luftan 02:04, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Curious, though, that a "new wikiuser" would know the terms sockpuppet and checkuser. —Travistalk 02:07, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Very curious, indeed.... --Boricuaeddie 02:12, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I am not a new user so to speak, I've had an account on here before, and before I had began editting again, I refreshed my mind on some of wikipedia policies.
To boricua, I do not put "warn user" on every AfD, I did twice, once to an authour who created the page several times, and the other time, I was at first against it.
To Travis, sockpuppet is a common term on many, many forums... James Luftan 02:19, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, it is ;-) --Boricuaeddie 02:20, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- (...and Wikipedia is not a forum.) When I wrote "new wikiuser," I wasn't assuming that you were new here, I was quoting your first post above, so forgive me if I've jumped to conclusions. In any case, you're correct about sockpuppet but, unless I'm mistaken, checkuser is pretty wikimedia-specific.
- However, it is still curious when an apparent new user (or someone who has been on an extended wikibreak) jumps directly into commenting and !voting on AfDs. —Travistalk 02:37, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Although all edits are important (I made a few to the James Coonan article), AfDs seem to be the most fun and interesting. (Forgive me for sounding evil (and a little odd) but the fate of an article may rest in your hands...MUAHAHA. Just kidding.). I like them because they are a major cleanup - and sometimes funny. On the subject of check users: I lurked around the wikipages for a few days to make sure nothing changed and I still remember it(checkuser also has to do with sockpuppetry). James Luftan 02:48, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I was just making an observation on an obvious enigma. —Travistalk 02:52, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
