- Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
- Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
- In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
- Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
- Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like
<ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>
, copy the whole thing). - In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
- If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:

Disambiguation link notification for February 16
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of largest reptiles, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chitra. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Black Caiman versus American Alligator
[edit]Join the discussion on the talk page of the black caiman regarding its maximal size. I saw you add several sources to support the caiman being the larger one both by length and by mass, but really failed to verify any of these sources. State your opinion there. Cheers! - Already gave my explanation in the concerned talk pages. Feel free to discuss more to extend the matter in discussion Adpr99 (talk) 21:00, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Gharial
[edit]You may not yet have noticed that this page has Good Article status. So when you add references, please format them in consistency with the formatting already used on this page and refrain from adding dead links. BhagyaMani (talk) 12:36, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- The links are working, its a committee report from IUCNCSG. If that's the case, the reference for 160 kg average weight is also similar, why is it not removed then? Like I said, 'Good article or not', no one has IPR over it Adpr99 (talk) 14:48, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- I tried the links in 3 different browsers : not working in any. It's up to the user to format added references properly !! If you do not know how to, then make yourself familiar with and learn WP:CITEHOW or just see how all the other references are formatted in that page. BhagyaMani (talk) 17:43, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
- This is the URL. If it doesn't allow access, you have to manually continue to the site. Its in the category of steering committee meetings, the latest one (2024).
- The thing is, it is neither a book or a journal, it is just a pdf. Adpr99 (talk) 19:51, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

- If it is wrongly formatted, then those who have the means can properly format it, else there is citation bot to correct it.
- Based on personal observations, the species is indeed very large. Its not appropriate to mislead readers by providing 160 kg as the average weight, when it can potentially weigh up to 1 tonne. That is why I added the 560-kg individual for perception Adpr99 (talk) 14:52, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
