Hi - just a quick question - here you said that the user was not warned correctly, but the reason I reported was because they had already been given a level 4 (by an admin) for creating the exact same page. Is your concern that the L4 was too old to count? Just wondering if there is a statute of limitations on these... Thanks. 7 01:01, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- (Please respond here - I'm watching) 7 01:02, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Typically yes, as the last L4 I see was from May. Usually they are only valid for a few days. --Admrboltz (talk) 01:14, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- Ok - thanks. 7 02:21, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Are you sure this was content deletion?
Re this revert: [1] I don't see anything wrong with what this IP added. It's not sourced, but a quick scan of any Utah Highway map will confirm that what they added is correct. Dave (talk) 07:18, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
- He added content and split one paragraph into two. Unless I'm missing something, nothing was deleted.Dave (talk) 07:21, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Vandalism
Hi, I recently reported this user for vandalism and it came back that the user had had insufficient warnings. I reported them because the user had a final warning posted on his account I think within the last few weeks and had had 3, I suppose you could call them blue, warnings since then. I took it that these warnings counted even though they aren't the ones that say if you carry on editing like this you will be blocked. I'm just wondering how recent the warnings have to be because I thought they were recent enough?
I agree with you that it is worth keeping an eye on this user which is why I've added him to my watchlist. It's just it's pointless me reporting them again if they've still not had sufficient warnings.
Thanks --5 albert square (talk) 00:59, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi again, thanks for clearing that up. I will keep an eye on this user --5 albert square (talk) 01:10, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Looks like he has now been blocked (again). Thanks for the advice again --5 albert square (talk) 21:36, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
File:Hand sanitizer with aloe.jpg
Hi,
How was the source of File:Hand sanitizer with aloe.jpg unclear?
Thanks! kmccoy (talk) 14:43, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- The PD-self template actually says "I, the copyright holder of this work". That gives you the information needed. Regardless, it could have been cleared up with less confusion and stress on the user with a quick message, rather than fairly imposing-looking CSD templates. I know that it's easy while patrolling for vandalism and such to just throw down some templates and move on, but these sorts of cases are where we lose good contributors by treating them like vandals simply because they couldn't navigate our fairly complicated image use policy. Instead of templating users who are clearly making good-faith, honest efforts to improve the encyclopedia, I implore you to take the time to leave a personal message explaining the situation, and do what you can to help them. Please. Thanks! kmccoy (talk) 18:20, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. I appreciate the work you're doing in trying to prevent vandalism. kmccoy (talk) 03:16, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Question
Hey, you said that I could ask you any questions. Well I was checking out the help page about imputing a picture into a page. What I don't understand is how do you know what to put after the [[image: part. Any help or advice you could give me would be wonderful. Thx. Lokiwintergersky (talk) 03:50, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Im trying to use a wikipedia picture, but I don't know what to put after the [[image:---- part. How would I know to put a .png or somthing like that? Also what would I put befor the .-- part? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 04:08, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
But how do I know if it I put example.jpd?Lokiwintergersky (talk) 04:15, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Umm, just any image because Im just confused if I was going to use an image on a page then how would I know what to type?Lokiwintergersky (talk) 04:52, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Oh, OK now I get it. Umm I hate to be a burden, but I have two more questions, are we allowed to write about people, places, or like a review? Also, what would I do if I wanted to use a pic form a website or one I took? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 04:57, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
OK now I get it thx.Lokiwintergersky (talk) 05:08, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
I see that you have flagged this article requesting inline cites. When I came across the no references flag on the article, I thought I would footnote particular facts but reading the two sources, both of which I have in front of me, I had trouble sorting out what to cite without adding a footnote at the end of each sentence, most of which would cite Ormsby and some of which would also cite Ency BC. In the end, I decided, contrary to my initial approach, to add the two cites as general references instead and removed the no reference flag. Looking at When to cite, I note that there aren't any quotes, and none of the statements in the article seem to me to be exceptional or contentious but that is just my impression so I thought I would ask if there are some particular parts of the article that you challenge or that seem to need a particular cite, please let me know and I will cite them specifically. --KenWalker | Talk 18:31, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, go ahead and remove the notice I placed. Generic references are fine in this case then. Thank you. --Admrboltz (talk) 18:45, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, will do. --KenWalker | Talk 18:59, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
What to write about
Umm hey its me again, I was wondering if you had any helpful topics to write about to get me started because everything I try to write about has been taken. Also, I can't think of what to write about. Lokiwintergersky (talk) 21:04, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
OK. Also, I was wondering how do you do a table chart. If you were to go to a random article then there would be a table (usually on the side, also, how do you put it on the side?), but how would you make one of them?Lokiwintergersky (talk) 21:25, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
Okay thx. Oh, also how do you change the color for it because I've seen green ones and gray ones. Lokiwintergersky (talk) 22:09, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Help
Im having trouble putting images onto a page. Whenever I click on an image like you said on the top of the page it has a thing like file:.... but when I try to put it on a page it doesn't show. Lokiwintergersky (talk) 00:18, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Ya, but I don't put {{image:file:... but when I look at at the top of the page it has spaces between the words and they have caps. Do I include all of that as well? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 00:23, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

References
How do I do references and external links? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 01:06, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm trying to do what you said to, but it said that my references wouldn't appear without a tag. What would I do? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 01:51, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Ya I keep checking it but it keeps saying the same thing. I even tried the references/ tag but that doesn't work. Lokiwintergersky (talk) 02:17, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
I did Lokiwintergersky (talk) 02:18, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Do I put the reflist tag directly below the reference heading? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 02:25, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
OK, but when I put my info inside the ref..../ref tag then it just has a blue 1 in brackets. Also, for your test reference you didn't put test reference inside the tag. Lokiwintergersky (talk) 02:33, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Oh, OK now I get it thx. Srry I have so many questions hahaha :) Lokiwintergersky (talk) 02:48, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Merging
How would I stop someone form merging my page? I don't think that my new page should be merged because I don't think what the colors stands for would fit into a history section. If you needed to look at the article it is Evolution of UK Flag. Lokiwintergersky (talk) 03:21, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
Do I put that on my page or the mergers page? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 03:49, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
OK I did now what? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 04:01, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Black Hole
Someone has taken my page (creation of a black hole) and redirected it to their page (black hole) and place a protection over it. My page talked about white holes as well as black holes so it does not fit with only black holes. Also, I put a redirection to black holes and white holes at the bottom of my page so that people could still see my work. What should I do? Lokiwintergersky (talk) 06:18, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- The black hole article talks about white holes as well as black holes. Loki, try a different argument. Also, I am not "someone". I am an identifiable editor and perfectly prepared to justify my actions. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 06:45, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Your F7 deletion of File:Dénes König.jpg
Please explain how File:Dénes König.jpg meets the criteria of WP:CSD#F7 per your recent deletion.
- It is and was clearly marked as a fair-use image of a dead person for whom no freely licensable image could reasonably be obtained, hence the "clearly invalid fair-use tag" clause of F7 does not appear to apply.
- It was not tagged as replaceable and the two-day waiting period was not given (there were no changes to the image description for over a year prior to your deletion), hence the second clause of F7 does not appear to apply.
- I believe that the fair-use claim was valid, but even if it weren't the seven-day waiting period was not given, hence the third clause of F7 does not appear to apply.
Therefore, this has all the appearance of a bad deletion to me, but perhaps you can provide a better justification. —David Eppstein (talk) 20:41, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- I have restored the image. I could have just said I was the uploader (which I was), and could have deleted it as it was my own upload; but since the subject is dead, you are right, finding a free replacement would be difficult. Have a good day. --Admrboltz (talk) 20:53, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! I didn't notice the same-uploader thing, so it could easily have been a G7 (and could still be if you prefer that) but I think having that image there is better than none. —David Eppstein (talk) 21:20, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. I am going to leave it up. --Admrboltz (talk) 21:47, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

If you're happy with the population of these categories you can "be bold" and remove the C1 from them. You may also want to put the {{populate}} on them as well, as they're pretty small categories now. Skier Dude (talk) 20:12, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
File:Railtime.png
You submitted "File:Railtime.png" for deletion. I do not agree. The file is less than a tenth of a percent of an 18 year outdated time table. As such it does not in any way compete with the original. It was added to show that in the "real world", both notations 0:00 and 24:00 are actually used together. This was a point of contention, now conclusively cleared by this picture.
I have added a "fair use" template on the picture page.
I do not know the procedure about by whom and how the deletion template can be removed. Can I do it? −Woodstone (talk) 14:55, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, even with a Fair sue tag its still now just a copyright violation. The original uploader modified a copyrighted work, and thus created a derivative work, which is now allowed on Wikipedia. --Admrboltz (talk) 16:41, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

File:Dénes König.jpg
Hi,
File:Dénes König.jpg is an image you uploaded about four years ago, so you may no longer remember the circumstances. However, the description names "Filep László (1941-2004)" as the author. Given that the subject of the picture died in 1944, at which time Filep was three years old, this looks unlikely. Any ideas where the error might be?
Thanks,

Rollback question
Hello. I have found your user-page because you are an administrator who grants rollback privileges. I am performing academic research and I am particularly focused on usage of the rollback feature. I have imported en-wiki dumps into MySQL for analysis, and flag RBs by parsing revision comments for the "automatic comment" left by RB edits.
My question: In February 2009 and the months preceding it, about 200k RBs were being performed a month. Beyond that, usage of the RB feature seems to decline sharply; in September 2009 I show only 1k RBs. Can you help me understand this? Did the automatic revision string change? Did the use of anti-vandalism bots (with their slightly altered RB strings (which I don't try to parse)) become so prevalent that no one does it 'manually' any more?
My current research has found no reason for this 200x change, and I hope you can help. Of course, your help will aid my research -- which in turn will help the Wikipedia community in combating vandalism. West.andrew.g (talk) 16:35, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

- In any case -- even if you are disinclined to pursue the primary thrust of this diff, I wonder if I might be able to tweak your curiosity with an article about 95-year-old Patrick Lennox Tierney? He is a Japanologist academic in the field of art history, an emeritus professor of the University of Utah, a former Curator of Japanese Art at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and a former Commissioner of Art and Monuments during the Allied Occupation of Japan (1945-1952). I think this elderly man still lives near the University. Tierney came to my attention because the Japanese government conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon in 2007.
- Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Tierney's life concerns his work for the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP), Gen. Douglas MacArthur. Tierney's office was near MacArthur's suite in SCAP headquarters. Tierney was an eyewitness on the day Emperor Hirohito came to offer a formal apology; but when the emperor arrived, MacArthur refused to admit him or acknowledge him. Issues which might have been addressed were allowed to remain open, with consequences which unfolded across the decades which followed. In 2006, Tierney made an effort to explain his understanding of what he had personally observed: "Apology is a very important thing in Japan. With us, we don't apologize unless we get caught with our hand in the cookie jar, but for the Japanese, there is a very strong sense of what an apology means." According to popular historian Herbert Bix in Hirohito and the Making of Modern Japan, "MacArthur's truly extraordinary measures to save Hirohito from trial as a war criminal had a lasting and profoundly distorting impact on Japanese understanding of the lost war."
Among a prospective mentor's many burdens, the most difficult would involve (a) helping me discern why or when I should apologize or (b) helping me to explain why or when I will not apologize in a wiki-context. --Tenmei (talk) 02:24, 26 December 2009 (UTC)

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. There's going to be an Autism fundraiser on August 7 at Lorin Farr Park in Ogden, and since you're interested in a Utah meetup, I was wondering if you would like to come? Trans States Holdings
Not a problem. I looked last the last set of changes and the article is no very close to not being a stub. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:44, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
UTA TRAX/UTA Color
“… you broke UTA TRAX”: hardly informative as to exactly what the problem was (and also, incidentally, contrary to Be bold). If you want to do something useful, write some documentation for {{Template:••• color}} so people don't have maker trial-and-error changes. Useddenim (talk) 13:04, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- Since there's a dearth of explanatory documentation about many of the templates, I had simply done a “cut 'n' paste” from Template:LUL color, and I guess I missed a couple of <nowiki> tags, or maybe a transclude. I'm trying again, this time without being so fancy. Useddenim (talk) 15:15, 19 October 2010 (UTC)
Maintaining a Personal Wiki Page
Good Morning Russell,
I was signing onto wikipedia today to make some edits to the page my brother had made for me, "Justin Geer", in which i keep my music and acting career up to date, but when i signed in a got a message saying the page had been deleted by Admrboltz because of lack of notability after the results of online searches. Just wondering if there was info on there that led to the page being deleted, and what we can do in the future to keep it from happening. Hope this message finds you well!
