What's going on with the above page mate? One moment it's speedy deleted, the next it's back without even an AFD tag. It's spam, as are some of his other articles. --kingboyk 03:29, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Userboxy stuff
Hmm I seem to remember that there are more userboxes chez Merovinigian. It's a good place to get ideas for new boxes - I highly recommend it. Note: I am not a sock puppet of User:Merovingian. :-) - 16:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC) The Great Gavini talking is fun!
Image copyright problem with Image:Al-Salam Boccaccio sinking in Red Sea new.png
Hi Admrboltz,
Regarding the image above: I stated in the comment when I added it that it was a copy of Image:Al-Salam_Boccaccio_sinking_in_Red_Sea.png, with the cities added. I wanted to set the same licence (Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 License), but it was not available in the list of proposed licenses. Actually, I wanted to replace the previous image with mine, but that doesn't seem to be possible. Does this help ? -- Ze miguel 21:07, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- I put the file on commons, updated the article, and requested speedy deletion of the image I had created. Thanks for your help.
Here you go

I think if you'd bothered to look, you would have seen that I am quite proficient at adding copyright tags. Furthermore, you would have seen that the image itself includes copyright information (it is not subject to copyright). Lastly, you would see from my recent history:

Re: Protecting images
I know that; I've uploaded, protected, and properly tagged many main page images already. Is there a specific image you were referring to? I may have made a mistake. Oh, wait - are you referring to Image:Pope Gregory XIII.jpg? Mea culpa; a mistake on my part - I must have looked at the already created image description page and didn't realize it was from Commons and hadn't been uploaded. I apologize; I'll be more careful in the future. Thanks for letting me know! Flcelloguy (A note?) 16:07, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Ting pei.jpg)
Hai Admrboltz, thank you for helping me identify the copyright status of the above image. I believed that the image was inadvertently orphaned when the original article Betty Ting Pei was claimed to have infringed someone's copyright. I rewrote the article again, and now it seems there has been no complaints so far. Thank you for your assistance. It would be a shame to forego an image that is rather rare and useful for the said article! — PM Poon 08:03, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Your userpage was briefly delisted by a rogue admin
This user believes that only articles need reflect a NPOV, and that displaying political, religious, or other beliefs using userboxes and user categories should not be banned. |
You have a userbox User:Hexagon1/UN which links your userpage to United Nations Wikipedians. There is currently a movement to ban userboxes from Wikipedia which are shared and which create Lists of Wikipedians. Certain admins have taken it upon themselves to preemptively sabotage and/or delete such categories and template. Here is the incident report which reported damage to yours, in which hundreds of userpages were delinked from categories without the users' knowledge. They have been stopped, barely, and the damage reverted— for now.
There is a Wikipedia:Userbox policy poll, which if passed, will make required by policy the damage done to categories and templates such as User UN/United Nations Wikipedians. If you do not want this to happen, I urge you to vote Oppose. in the poll. Support is currently running at about 66%, and your vote could make the difference. It is said to require 75%-80% to be deemed reflective of consensus.
Thank you,

No source
There is clearly some bizarre Wikipedia policy that I don't understand. Can you explain why you think Image:Mugmapd.jpg has no source information, when it very clearly states in the description that it's a work of the US government? I'd be happy to add more specific source information, but since it seems to me that the information is already there, I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to go about adding it. (It's a product of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and it can be found on their web site [2].) -- Captaindan 10:49, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, I see now. I didn't know that a source URL was required. Thanks for your help! -- Captaindan 23:23, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza
Welcome, Admrboltz/Archive 4, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. A spam list is maintained by Redwolf24 to keep members up to date; you might want to consider adding your name to the list. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee , KnowledgeOfSelf, JoanneB, Titoxd and FireFox. The elections have ended.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact me via email or talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to be!Thanks! File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (T • C • W) 23:56, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
This image had source info listed until an anon removed it earlier today. Was the old info sufficient for copyright purposes, or does Angmering need to provide more? (I've also asked this at Image talk:Drwhostub-02.JPG.) —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 05:19, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
As requested I've changed the copyright tag to GFDL-self, but the page has always said who created the image, me. Although I see from Josiah's message above that an anon apparently removed the page info earlier today, so you might have seen the image then. Angmering 07:43, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
{{AT&T}}
Hey! Thank you for getting the AT&T template changed. When I tried to start an AT&T template, it kept wanting to start an "AT" template, and wouldn't add on the "&T". I'll make sure this is taken care of. KansasCity 21:23, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Image:Toko.jpg
You continue to ask for a source for this image, but BANDAI IS the source. the image comes directly from the anime series Digimon Adventure. They created the image. I fail to see what more information is needed. And as far as I can tell, a source is only needed to help determine the copy-write usage, and it's already stated that Bandai owns the image, owns the character, and the usage is fair-use. It seems to be that anything less than a URL will not please you, and assuming that all images come from other websites is silly. Again, this is official character art of the character "Tokomon" from the anime series Digimon Adventure, in-which all content is owned by Bandai. Please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Digimon Systems Update#Image:Toko.jpg for further discussion of this, as it is now spanning three user talk pages. -- Ned Scott 08:09, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Logos, etc
Hi - In going through some 'no source' images I noticed that you have been tagging logos and coats of arms as 'no source' even though the copyright is clearly owned by the company or group in question. As I understand it, a specific URL is not needed when the copyright owner is known/obvious. Have you heard differently? -SCEhardT 16:45, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
- Not to be argumentative, but I'm positive that everything doesn't have to have a source URL (for example, a photo I took myself that only exists on the Internet at Wikipedia). Could you point me to where you read that all logos need to have a source URL (rather than just specifying who owns the logo)? Thanks! -SCEhardT 19:29, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
I guess what we're disagreeing on is the meaning of 'source' in this context. For example, if I wanted to upload a 1980's AT&T logo to comment on how it had changed over the years, I might have to download it from Logos-R-Us.com. However, this 3rd party would not own the logo nor any rights to it. I don't think they would need to be credited since the original source is still AT&T. I will admit, however, I'm no expert on copyright law. I'll research this some more and think about where to bring up the question in a more public place on Wikipedia (and of couse point you to that discussion if I start one). -SCEhardT 22:35, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Less Condescension, Please
In notifying me of the deletion of Kingofthehill, you pasted a cute little form letter sort of thing:
- Welcome to Wikipedia! We could really use your help to create new content, but your recent additions are considered non-notable and have been reverted or removed. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. (et cetera)
The problem is that I have over 2000 edits under my belt, so it's a little late...one might even say insulting...to be "welcomed" and told to look at X to "learn more about contributing". You accidentally came off as arrogant and sloppy, though of course you're not, by failing to take a few seconds to see that I'm no newbie. --Kaz 20:05, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

Rodovid.org
Hi, I found you from the category of Wikipedian genealogists. I wonder if you have heard of/been involved in any of the previous attempts at starting a genealogy wiki under the foundation. Seeing as you were in the category, I thought you may be interested in the new project proposal, Rodovid. This project is currently running at rodovid.org. I would greatly appreciate it if you could visit the site and give me your opinion of it. Any input at all will be useful. Thanks. --Bjwebb (talk) 10:34, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Don Harlow stub
I'm curious to know why you tagged the Don Harlow stub for cleanup. I didn't create the article and have no vested interest in it, I'm just curious. I've been here a bit too long to call myself a newbie, but the amount of time I'm able to spend editing Wikipedia articles is limited, so I often feel like I'm new even though I'm not. It seems like a perfectly good stub to me, and there were no comments on the talk page to enlighten me (in fact, there is no talk page at all). As I said, my dander's not up or anything, I'm just curious. —CKA3KA (Skazka) 22:16, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. That clears things up for me nicely. The old version was indeed very much in need of cleanup. Does the cleanup template need to be removed, now? If so, I'll be happy to do it—or you can. Lemmeknow. —CKA3KA (Skazka) 22:49, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
