Frederic Wehrey is a Senior Associate at the Middle East Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. He is a noted scholar of Middle East affairs and an expert on Libyan and Gulf politics.

His articles and commentary frequently appear in national and international outlets such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, the Financial Times, the International Herald Tribune, and Foreign Affairs. He is a frequent contributor to PBS News Hour, BBC, CNN, and NPR.

He has lectured at Princeton, Dartmouth, and Georgetown University.

He has testified before the Senate and the House of Representatives on the need for a more effective U.S. policy in Libya.

A former U.S. Air Force officer, served in Iraq in 2003.

Before joining Carnegie, he worked at the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, California, publishing on Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Saudi-Iranian relations.

He is the author of the book, Sectarian Politics in the Gulf: From the Iraq War to the Arab Uprisings, which was chosen by Foreign Policy as one of the Top Five books of 2013.

He earned a PhD from Oxford University.
