So please do you suggest I convert the links to references. The idea of the links is to point to official sources of the tournaments in question. ATM622 (talk) 21:16, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It would be preferable to find independent sources, but in any case the external links need to be removed we just don't use them in the body of an article. Theroadislong (talk) 21:22, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, thanks. ATM622 (talk) 21:24, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest?

[edit]

Is Jack Mizzi a friend, family member, or associate of yours in any way? If so, you are required to disclose this. It isn't a problem to be an editor with a conflict of interest, but it does make it difficult to write in a neutral fashion as required by WP:NPOV policy if you are close to the subject. Draft:Jack Mizzi is definitely non-neutral, containing several instances of unsubstantiated puffery. The only venue we have for a person with a conflict of interest to edit an article is draft space, so it's good that you're developing the article there. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:35, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I just declared that I am a family member in my introduction. ATM622 (talk) 21:43, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I saw your note on the draft talk page just now. Consider adding the COI user box to User:ATM622. You can use this template: {{UserboxCOI|1=Jack Mizzi}}. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:56, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What do I need to do? Is it that I did not use the https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Template:Infobox_chess_player properly?
Thanks for any recommendations. ATM622 (talk) 10:59, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed the infobox according to instructions at WP:CHESS. Please review. ATM622 (talk) 11:36, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am in discussions with the reviewer where he kindly pointed out that his comment above suggesting WP:CHESS ought to have said WP:NCHESS. This is a big difference. I explained at length why WP:NCHESS does not automatically exclude the article. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on David Cilia Vincenti requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Information icon Please do not introduce links in actual articles to draft articles, as you did to Maltese Chess Championship. Since a draft is not yet ready for the main article space, it is not in shape for ordinary readers, and links from articles should not go to a draft. Such links are contrary to the Manual of Style. These links have been removed. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 11:23, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, removed the links completely. ATM622 (talk) 11:45, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Chess discussion

[edit]

Hello. I started a discussion of your draft at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chess#Draft (not mine) would benefit from review. There seems to be a desire for coverage of Jack Mizzi from outside of Malta. If such coverage exists, then include it. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:01, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I added some external links. Perhaps I can also summarise here. The most important tournament was the European Small Nations (ESNA) championship. Organised by the European Chess Union, this tournament was so important that it was singled out for participation in the World Cycle Championships. I mentioned https://en.chessbase.com/post/lance-henderson-wins-european-small-nations-2022 (reference 49) which is a well respected German chess journal. More importantly I highlighted that the reason why Jack would become a Candidate Master is because of his performance of 5.5/9. This kicked in a special (rarely used) mechanism whereby he was awarded the title. I listed official FIDE regulations that specify this rule, citing different official sources.

The World Amateur tournament was important enough that the FIDE president attended personally to the event. https://chessmalta.com/dvorkovich-visits-malta/. Frankly I cannot understand how someone can decide to say that a tournament is not important without researching. I think however that this link is not necessary in the article because everyone within the chess community knows that the World Amateur Chess Tournament is a FIDE tournament. Perhaps not everyone knows that the FIDE president inaugurated it. In any case, this tournament was notable for Jack because this was the second criteria for him to obtain the candidate master title. The first and most important criteria was the 5.5/9 obtained in the European Small Nations. I explained at great length how this mechanism works. ATM622 (talk) 23:53, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I wish to refer to https://lb.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Berend. This is the Luxembourgean version of Wikipedia. What is the correct way to reference? ATM622 (talk) 20:25, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2 National Championships

[edit]

Recently Mizzi has been awarded the Blitz National Champion title and the Rapid National Champion title. Note that these were the Malta National Championships and not Junior Championships. ATM622 (talk) 23:43, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Mizzi moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Jack Mizzi, is not suitable as written to remain published. It appears there is a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. As per WP policy, please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 13:02, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Pichemist approved it. Kindly restore. ATM622 (talk) 13:36, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There’s countless items in the article that are not cited with a secondary reliable source. Drafting was the right course of action. This article is nowhere near fit for main. MaxnaCarta (talk) 14:10, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MaxnaCarta @Onel5969 please note that I left no uncited assertions. I gave a full explanation below but did not tag you. ATM622 (talk) 20:57, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please give examples? This article had been thoroughly reviewed. But of course keen to improve. ATM622 (talk) 14:13, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that the links in the introduction wereremoved. These have been restored. Kindly review. ATM622 (talk) 15:44, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, While you have followed protocol and declared your COI on your userpage, it's still missing citations for several assertions within the article. Please go through the article once more and make sure that every assertion is referenced. For example, if you say the person is a Candidate Master, please provide a reference for that, or if the team was promoted, that needs a reference as well.Onel5969 TT me 12:02, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. I followed your advice and went through the article several times. I removed all assertions that I could not find references to and also attempted to Wikify more terms. Given that the announcement of the candidate master title was published on social media and in no other place, I removed the title from the article.I include the reference here but I understand this cannot be used within the article: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10160729410836052&id=514036051
Likewise I removed the reference to the promotion of the club despite it was referenced here:https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2501239563342268&id=218744084925172
Let me know whether this suffices please. ATM622 (talk) 15:08, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations!
The edits you have made since the article was published are fine; however, I must caution you to avoid making any substantive changes to the article due to your conflict of interest. You can make minor corrections to spelling, grammar, names, dates, etc., you can add citations to reliable sources, you can revert obvious vandalism, but anything more substantive you should propose on the article's talk page. You can preface your proposal with the template {{request edit}}, which causes your proposal to be listed on a category page monitored by some editors. ~Anachronist (talk) 01:46, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
