WP:NOTNOW
Hi. I just saw your oppose on the RfA of ErikHaugen. I don't mind the oppose (though I disagree) but I do mind the link to WP:NOTNOW. That essay is intended for newbies whose RfAs are closed early and in fact its last section points to the essay Wikipedia:When not to link to WP:NOTNOW. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 02:02, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- OK, taken out at your request but there are still other editors on the page linking to NOTNOW, just in case you want to message them too :) --5 albert square (talk) 02:07, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oh no, I really wanted to bash you on the head with this. :-) (It's just that I checked up on the new supports/opposes of the day, saw yours and dropped a line since it was fresh) Pichpich (talk) 02:46, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Mail Reporter
I don't think she likes anyone to be honest, she's making me laugh so much with her rants. Her comments about Steph Scully are legendary! I'm adding anything she says about characters to their talk pages. I'm actually finding it fun.RAIN*the*ONE BAM 03:11, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Haha, I see what you mean! With Callum Jones she basically calls him a brat twice, picks on his weight twice, says she'd like him kidnapped and says she'd like him in a coma! Personally I don't think that he's a brat, given that the character is what 13 years old (?) I thought his behaviour was perfectly normal for a teenager! I thought her comments about his weight though were out of order, I think she forgets it's the online version of the Mail - online=website=Morgan might be able to read what she wrote even though he's in Australia!--5 albert square (talk) 13:18, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- 5asq, I agree with everything you've said. I'm quite against adding anything to Callum's article that mentions his/Baker's weight. It's just spiteful. - JuneGloom Talk 15:17, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- It's only her that I've noticed doing it and yes it is quite spiteful. To my knowledge Baker has never discussed his weight with anyone so we don't know what has caused it. Yes, it could be a case of eating too many sweets or it could be that he is like me and has an underlying medical condition that causes his weight gain or it could simply be because he's still growing! For a child, Baker must be active, you only have to look at the Neighbours schedule for that! Broadcast 5 times per week with what about 25 cast members? EastEnders goes out 4 times a week and at my last cast count they had over 70 cast members! I notice though that the other soaps all get about half a page each and are relatively not attacked, Neighbours gets about two paragraphs which basically consists of her ripping to shreds the characters she doesn't like (Paul Robinson is the only one that I've seen so far not picked on!)--5 albert square (talk) 16:05, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- She is spiteful. She has a vendetta agaisnt most of the female characters and even wants to drown Charlie Buckton. But I think we shouldn't censor out completley - just slant it. We would add it if he was a adult. She actually praises Toadie's weight loss in one.RAIN*the*ONE BAM 16:22, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, just slant it. If she hates most of the female characters I hate to think what she's going to be like with Rebecca until Jane Hall leaves. After all Rebecca is married to what would seem to be her favourite character and is having an affair with someone whilst married to him!--5 albert square (talk) 16:48, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

I-Ball
Hey, I'm Intel-Excel. My article on the company called I-Ball was deleted, and I was asked to tell one of the administrators. Well, an article may be short, but short or long, no article is better or worse than any other, in my opinion. And I just put what I got from the company's website (although not copied; I always put my own words). So I request you to put the article back to where it belongs. I don't know much about editing webpages, so I'll be grateful to you if this would be done. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Intel-Excel (talk • contribs) 17:48, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, I've looked at the deleted page and I'm afraid that wouldn't be allowed because it would be too promotional. Hey. I've been a little too experimental. User:Raintheone/EditCounterOptIn.js - I've created this because I was reading the wiki check stats for myself and it said create it with anything, but it said it may harm my account. I did it anyway, thinking some bot or something would update it. I regret it now, could you delete it. I don't want some crazy javascript eating my account. Mr. Downstairs
I was very dissappointed when you deleted my page about a new and upcoming band called Mr. Downstairs. I understand it is a band and the policy is not to make pages about bands, but it's not my band. That's the reason I had very little information about them. They started in late 2010 and haven't released any full songs yet. Why do thousands other bands get to be on Wikipedia but not this one? It simply isn't fair. I'm 16 years old and I am very passionate about this band and what they're doing with their music. I was so dissappointed when I went on their Facebook page and saw that they didn't get to see their first and only Wikipedia page. I and thousands of other fans would love to see this page up to see them have some recognition. If you want to check them out, you can find them with these URLs: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/MrDownstairs http://Twitter.com/MrDownstairs http://Youtube.com/MrDownstairsOfficial http://Myspace.com/HelloMrDownstairs http://MrDownstairs.tumblr.com

- Hi there
- Yes, you're right there are thousands of bands on Wikipedia. However all those bands have to meet the criteria of WP:BAND in order to be on Wikipedia. I suggest that you have a read of the criteria, you will see that Mr Downstairs fails it on a few points.--5 albert square (talk) 23:36, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response, I set the vandalism notice from Huggle and I went to the admin intervention page to post a reason and you had taken care of it. Obv the user posted a link to a program which could start downloading automatically for some users. Of course this can be an issue... Also, I see on your page you're on vacation until today. Grats, but make sure to take that notice off since it won't be valid tonight at midnight :P Enjoy! cliffsteinman -- Discuss 23:05, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

I initially thought the user just added a link but now you pointed that out I've checked it manually and noooooo it was trying to download something to my PC! I stopped it but methinks an AVG scan will be done tonight to be safe :). Off I go now to take off my holiday notice! --5 albert square (talk) 23:20, 18 March 2011 (UTC)

Hello, can you check out this user? I don't believe it is true vandalism; however, he seems to have a belief that any time a woman gets married, her name is always changed. He has edited countless articles to reflect this view. Can you look over his articles and revert some of them to ones before he posted. I am fairly certain I don't have the capability to revert back to a long previous version (he usually has multiple edits as he rarely gets it right the first time). One example of this is on Dustin-Leigh Konzelman. You may also have to explain to him/her how to properly edit wikipedia.Ryan Vesey (talk) 05:29, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

I need a little help getting through to another Wikipedian
Since you are an admin and I remember reviewing you, can you help me? I have been trying to ask User:Msalmon a question about line format regarding Template:Dancing with the Starts (Season 12). Yet, no matter how I explain it to him, he doesn't understand what I'm asking. He has even removed my inquiry from his talk page TWICE, as if I was stupid. You can find my question in the history of his talk page.
Help???? :-) --The Wing Dude, Musical Extraordinaire (talk) 21:22, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hi there
- I think the user just doesn't understand what it is you're asking. They deleted it because they don't see the point of the discussion. Anyway, I don't think there's anything in the formatting for templates regarding this. I can only suggest that you maybe consider dispute resolution? It might be an idea to consider one of the dispute resolutions and get comment/feedback from other editors over the formatting of the template.
- Hope this helps :) --5 albert square (talk) 23:23, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

A drink
On 29 March 2009, I took my first small steps as a Wikipedian.
Now, 2 years, 47,000 edits, 2 RfAs and many memories later, I'd like to share a drink, on my "wiki-birthday", with a few editors who made my early experience here a pleasant one. As much as I would like to thank each of those editors in non-templated fashion, or even buy them a drink in person, I fear I would be celebrating my fourth wiki-birthday (and very drunk!) before the task was complete. Thus, please accept this as a small, if slightly impersonal, token of what these collaborations, words of advice and moments shared have meant to me.
Here's to all the happy memories of the last two years and to many more to come! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts?
—In recognition of the many, many hours we spent working on The Bill! It's hard to believe it was so long ago. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:51, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
- Ah cheers! Haha yeah, The Bill passed GA on 7th December 2009, I remember that article well! All the pulling of hair trying to find sources, lol was quite surprised I had any left by the end! Still I'm glad we got it passed then, it would probably be worse now to try and find sources since the programme has ended. God it's nearly 3 years since I joined Wikipedia then!--5 albert square (talk) 22:09, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

- Ha yeah! Think, it's almost a year now since ITV lost their senses and axed The Bill, soon it'll be a year since it stopped filming, then soon it'll be a year since the last episode aired! Speaking of which, I plan to put either The Bill or Respect (The Bill) forward for On This Day then. I was lost when I got the extra buttons I'd be even more lost now if I didn't have them!!--5 albert square (talk) 23:19, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Block of User:Paul W. Jones
I wanted to drop a note about your block of User:Paul W. Jones. According to the log, you blocked this as a promotional username, which I don't quite agree with. Granted, the user was engaging in edits to (presumably) an autobiography, but the username itself is not overly promotional (after all, it is a person's name) and the editor seems to have been acting in good faith, which makes {{UsernameHardBlocked}} a little extreme, I think. I have informed them about WP:AUTOBIO and WP:COI. I've placed the unblock on hold pending input from you. Thanks! --Kinu t/c 03:09, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, the hardblock template is a bit WP:BITE-y and it sends the wrong message IMO. Connormah (talk) 03:57, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
- OK, if he wants to be unblocked I'm happy with that on the one condition that the username is changed. I should add though that I did actually block him for being a promotional username because yes it is a persons name but he was actually redirecting his page to a Wikipedia mainspace page. I took that as being promotional and impersonating someone.--5 albert square (talk) 16:19, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Installing Twinkle
You should only have one line for Twinkle in your monobook.js file:
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkle.js');
The extra imports are probably slowing things down for you and can cause Twinkle to not initialize properly. This will be even more important when we switch to the new Twinkle. —UncleDouggie (talk) 03:00, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- OK, I think I've fixed it now, could you just double check for me please?--5 albert square (talk) 20:42, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

//Vandalism
importScript('User:AzaToth/morebits.js');

Help with a few vandals?
[1] - This IP [2] - This IP [3] This IP
Have been causing trouble on a range of Hollyoaks articles for a long time. There was more too - but they all seem to be the same people, or know each other some how. Can you work out if they are all linked?
They have repeatedly targeted the McQueen and Ashworth family in Hollyoaks creating fake characters. Elle McQueen, Katie Ashworth, Aleesha McQueen and Amy Ashworth. Non of which exist, they appear to be adding their real life names as the portrayers.
Popular targets have included List of Hollyoaks characters (2009) List of Hollyoaks characters (2005) Theresa McQueen
It is a real long running problem. AP gave a last warning to one, but I don't see it being a different person on this new IP.Rain the 1 BAM 15:43, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hi
- I've checked WHOIS, the second and third are almost definitely the same person or are related because they're both coming back as registered to the same company. The first is just coming back as registered to BT but then that could I think be public internet, mobile phone, home internet etc so could still be the same person.
- The edits aren't actually recent enough for me to act on them I'm afraid. I think the most recent edit was middle/end of March if I remember correctly. What I will do is add the pages to my watchlist along with the IP pages and will monitor it for you.--5 albert square (talk) 22:27, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

IP vandal from Tel Aviv
I have a question for you, as a frequent contributor to AIV. We have a persistent IP vandal from Tel Aviv who is set on vandalizing "Biggest Loser" articles. We have essentially semi-protected all the articles except for one, The Biggest Loser: Couples 2, and continuously block the IPs as they pop up. The problem is that the vandal is IP hopping over a very wide range (over a half million IPs was my last calculation of a potential range block). I would rather not attempt a range block, since the range is so large. I could just semi-protect all the "Biggest Loser" articles, but then I fear the IP would start vandalizing other articles, and it is somewhat convenient to have it isolated to a single article. Do you have any suggestions? You can check the edit history of the "Couples 2" article to see what I am talking about, and get a sense for the wide range of IP addresses involved. However, they all seem to geolocate to Tel Aviv, so I am pretty confident that it's the same individual (plus the edit pattern is always identical). Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:47, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmmmm, other than a rangeblock I wouldn't have any other suggestions I'm afraid as you're right, they may just go on to vandalising other articles if this one is blocked. Is the IP editing whilst their other IPs are blocked? If so, might be worthwhile going to WP:SPI to see if they can do or suggest anything?--5 albert square (talk) 23:59, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
- Basically the pattern is a burst of edits on one IP, then hopping to another IP. I don't know if it is so much intentional IP hopping, but a function of the ISP having a short DHCP renewal, or using an Internet cafe or public routers or whatever. So, in the end, the blocks don't appear to do much, unless the user gets assigned the same IP again. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:12, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- If the IPs are from the same internet provider, have you tried contacting them to see if there's any action they could take? I know with persistent vandalism from IP addresses some members of Wikipedia can take that up with the internet provider. Not sure who's allowed though.--5 albert square (talk) 00:29, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think they are all the same ISP, but I could check. For the time being we now have semi-protection, they were under "pending changes", but that trial ran out, so they were converted to semi. I wonder if there is a method to see all the contributions from an IP range. Thanks for your input. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:07, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Please don't add rumours, it's not too much to ask that people just wait for official confirmation. There is no need for a rush to add this. See User:Jack Merridew/Blood and Roses. 222.124.91.51 (talk) {User:Gold Hat} 05:44, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hi Jack, yes I did read that. However if you also read the link that Ken has put on the page you will see that you are only to edit from Barong's account. If you edit from an IP and then sign it from the Jack Merridew account it looks like you're not complying. If you just comply with motion 5 you will be absolutely fine :)--5 albert square (talk) 21:05, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
WWE Capitol Punishment
I would ask that you revert back to this revision with the protection tag added back. The matches table is misplaced in the article right now and the end of the article is a mess. — Moe ε 13:17, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism on Multiplayer video game
There have been a number of edits to the above article that constitute blatant vandalism. I have suggested on Talk:Multiplayer video game that we put some kind of protection in place. If you look at the Revision history you will see exactly what I am talking about. --User:DiscipleOfKnowledge (talk) 06:18, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Revival of Allan Gray
Greetings and salutations! You will recall that a while ago I requested if you could please give me a copy of Allan Gray (company) so that I could make improvements on it and possibly have it reinstated on Wikipedia. I am not affiliated with the company and have no vested interests in it. As I recall, your concern was that you would not be able to restore it to my user page because it would erase everything I had there. I now have a solution. Could you please, if you would be so kind, copy the deleted content here:
User:DiscipleOfKnowledge/Sandbox/Allan Gray (company)
I have created this as a sandbox for the article. I am aware that you cannot include the logo of the company (if it still exists) on userpages. That is fine and re-uploading of the logo can always be done later. I just need the text, sources and all the content of the article and I will begin making improvements. As for notability, the company has upwards of R30 bln (US$4.2 bln) assets under management and is the largest investment management firm in South Africa. It has also won several awards as a top company in South Africa, is a listed company under the JSE/FTSE all share index and operates on a multi-national level, in Japan and elsewhere. See the sources below for more details on notability:
For long term consistency Allan Gray is still tops

Thank you in advance. --User:DiscipleOfKnowledge (talk) 21:35, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Edinburgh Meetup - next Monday
A meetup will be held in Edinburgh next Monday, June 20th. Just an informal meet in a pub. With luck we will also have a geo-notice banner in time, although this process seems broken at the moment. Details here; please sign up if you are interested. All welcome. Sorry about the short notice. 20:36, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry but I won't be in Edinburgh on that date. Thanks for the invite though.--5 albert square (talk) 14:25, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
