Rollback granted
Hi 2NumForIce. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.

Skagit Transit Page
I was making some MUCH needed changes to the Skagit Transit page and was booted off. ADDING and CHANGING the following; Youth Fare free - Route additions and better descriptions - Park & Ride additions. I just spent a lot of time doing this and it was erased. Guideline and policy news
- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
Technical news
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
Arbitration
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
Miscellaneous
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.
Ali Siddiq biography edits
Hi, I made the changes to Ali Siddiq’s biography, but did not know they needed an in-text citation. Both referred specials were released on YouTube, and I’ve linked them below. In the description for the second special, there is a quote from a New York Times review if that is helpful.

Recent changes
The content attribution tools Who Wrote That?, XTools Authorship, and XTools Blame now support the Dutch, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Polish and Portuguese Wikipedias. This was the #7 wish in the 2023 Community Wishlist Survey. [1]- The Search Preview panel has been deployed on four Wikipedias (Catalan, Dutch, Hungarian and Norwegian). The panel will show an image related to the article (if existing), the top sections of the article, related images (coming from MediaSearch on Commons), and eventually the sister projects associated with the article. [2]
- The RealMe extension now allows administrators to verify URLs for any page, for Mastodon and similar software. [3]
- The default project license has been officially upgraded to CC BY-SA 4.0. The software interface messages have been updated. Communities should feel free to start updating any mentions of the old CC BY-SA 3.0 licensing within policies and related documentation pages. [4]
Problems
- For three days last month, some Wikipedia pages edited with VisualEditor or DiscussionTools had an unintended
__TOC__(or its localized form) added during an edit. There is a listing of affected pages sorted by wiki, that may still need to be fixed. [5] - Currently, the "Sort this page by default as" feature in VisualEditor is broken. Existing
{{DEFAULTSORT:...}}keywords incorrectly appear as missing templates in VisualEditor. Developers are exploring how to fix this. In the meantime, those wishing to edit the default sortkey of a page are advised to switch to source editing. [6] 
Last week, an update to the delete form may have broken some gadgets or user scripts. If you need to manipulate (empty) the reason field, replace #wpReasonwith#wpReason > input. See an example fix. [7]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 13 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 14 June. It will be on all wikis from 15 June (calendar).- VisualEditor will be switched to a new backend on English Wikipedia on Monday, and all other large wikis on Thursday. The change should have no noticeable effect on users, but if you experience any slow loading or other strangeness when using VisualEditor, please report it on the phabricator ticket linked here. [8]
Future changes
- From 5 June to 17 July, the Foundation's Security team is holding a consultation with contributors regarding a draft policy to govern the use of third-party resources in volunteer-developed gadgets and scripts. Feedback and suggestions are warmly welcome at Third-party resources policy on meta-wiki.

Recent changes
- The Section-level Image Suggestions feature has been deployed on seven Wikipedias (Portuguese, Russian, Indonesian, Catalan, Hungarian, Finnish and Norwegian Bokmål). The feature recommends images for articles on contributors' watchlists that are a good match for individual sections of those articles.
- Global abuse filters have been enabled on all Wikimedia projects, except English and Japanese Wikipedias (who opted out). This change was made following a global request for comments. [15]
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool for administrators to help fight spam. It provides a clearer interface for blocking plain domains (and their subdomains), is more easily searchable, and is faster for the software to process for each edit on the wiki. It does not support regex (for complex cases), nor URL path-matching, nor the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist, but otherwise it replaces most of the functionalities of the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. There is a Python script to help migrate all simple domains into this tool, and more feature details, within the tool's documentation. It is available at all wikis except for Meta-wiki, Commons, and Wikidata. [16]
- The WikiEditor extension was updated. It includes some of the most frequently used features of wikitext editing. In the past, many of its messages could only be translated by administrators, but now all regular translators on translatewiki can translate them. Please check the state of WikiEditor localization into your language, and if the "Completion" for your language shows anything less than 100%, please complete the translation. See a more detailed explanation.

- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 July. It will be on all wikis from 13 July (calendar).
- The default protocol of Special:LinkSearch and API counterparts has changed from http to both http and https. [17]
- Special:LinkSearch and its API counterparts will now search for all of the URL provided in the query. It used to be only the first 60 characters. This feature was requested fifteen years ago. [18]
Future changes
- There is an experiment with a ChatGPT plugin. This is to show users where the information is coming from when they read information from Wikipedia. It has been tested by Wikimedia Foundation staff and other Wikimedians. Soon all ChatGPT plugin users can use the Wikipedia plugin. This is the same plugin which was mentioned in Tech News 2023/20. [19]
- There is an ongoing discussion on a proposed Third-party resources policy. The proposal will impact the use of third-party resources in gadgets and userscripts. Based on the ideas received so far, policy includes some of the risks related to user scripts and gadgets loading third-party resources, some best practices and exemption requirements such as code transparency and inspectability. - MediaWiki system messages will now look for available local fallbacks, instead of always using the default fallback defined by software. This means wikis no longer need to override each language on the fallback chain separately. For example, English Wikipedia doesn't have to create
en-caanden-gbsubpages with a transclusion of the base pages anymore. This makes it easier to maintain local overrides. [20] - The
action=growthsetmentorstatusAPI will be deprecated with the new MediaWiki version. Bots or scripts calling that API should use theaction=growthmanagementorlistAPI now. [21]

- Wikisource users can now use the

Hi 2NumForIce, when patrolling biographical edits, please keep in mind that restoring material others have objected to in good faith may be prohibited without obtaining a consensus first, and that repeating gossip or self-published sources' statements is problematic. In the moment you restore material on Wikipedia, you are legally responsible for it.
You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;

How to submit a complaint about a person undoing my edits

I am having a problem with a person undoing my edits, which are properly referenced. This person has undone my edits a few times with vague reasons. For example, the last reason was "A book literally titled "Croatia in the torture chamber" is not an indication of WP:RS"
Since when does a title of a book determine the legitimacy of the content, especially when the book is by a legitimate historian. The historian being: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Rudolf_Horvat

- Apparently, the user mainly edits Holocaust- and torture-related articles, and apparently has reverted it due to it being not a reliable source. You might want to first read the page, and discuss it with the user. If nothing works, I suggest you go to the reliable sources noticeboard and editors there will be able to determine if a source is reliable.

- I read the "reliable sources" page and skimmed through the "reliable sources noticeboard" page. I can see that while there are criteria for judging a, there is much subjectivity in the discussions.
- According to the criteria of "reliable sources", the book that I referenced, titled "Hrvatska na mučilištu", qualifies as a reliable source but user "buidhe" deemed it not reliable based solely on its title. He said "...books with hyperbolic titles are less likely to be WP:RS and suitable to cite for wikipedia purposes.
- Who decides what a "hyperbolic title" is?
- My original translation of the title was "Croatia in the torture chamber" but a technically more precise title being "Croatia in a place of agony/suffering", originally published in 1942 and republished by a prominent Croatian publisher in 1992. The book details the suffering that Croatia endured during the first Yugoslavia - that being between 1918 and 1942. It is a reasonable title for the events of the time. The author Rudolf Horvat was a legitimate historian whose only apparent "faults" were that he suported an independent Croatian state and he opposed communism and Yugoslav dictator Tito.
- Is it proper for a person that does not read the Croatian language to judge the reliability of a Croatian book based solely on its title?
- About me
- I am a Croat, living in Canada, and have some knowledge of Croatian history. As an example of what I have done so far - my major update to the page of a little known Croat from the 16th century named "Janos Statileo". My desire is to present information about the accomplishments of Croats and to undo at least a tiny bit of anti-Croat propaganda (character assassination) created by the communist Yugoslav government. Sadly, there is still much anti-Croat hate based on Yugoslav lies.
- Here is my rule of thumb on how I plan to contribute. Since I am not a subject matter expert in Hungarian history I will never go onto a Hungarian history page and tell people how to present Hungarian history except where it misrepresents Croatian events - for example when a Hungarian tries to claim a historical person as one of their own. Rather than make an edit and provide a curt and glib reason for it, I prefer to address the issue in the talk section.

- My desire is to ensure an honest/truthful presentation of information about Croatia. I have no problem with the use of RELIABLE (truthful) information and in fact I highly desire it. My problem is when people "cherry-pick" what they consider reliable information.
- The more I see you write - the more I come to feel that you hate Croats and by creating a negative image by cherry-picking facts.

Here are the projects:
1. Talk:Philosophical_pessimism#A proposal for an overhaul of the article — this initiative is already in progress. The idea is to raise the quality of the page by switching it from a mere historical account to a more encyclopedic format.
2. Talk:Philosophical_pessimism#A proposal to split the History into a dedicated page — related to the one above. The historical account is overly detailed. It would be much better to have a dedicated page for the history of philosophical pessimism and leave only a brief history in the main page.
3. Talk:Antinatalism#A proposal to create a dedicated page for Benatar's axiological asymmetry — here, the idea is to extract the axiological asymmetry argument into a dedicated page. This way, a more detailed presentation could be given. In addition, we could expand on the various responses others philosophers made and counters from Benatar. Other pages could have a brief description and link to the details page.

- It seems like you have already created a new page using the content translation tool. Unfortunately, only autoconfirmed users (registered for 4 days + 10 edits) can directly create an article or move it into article space. However, there is an Articles for creation process, which allows non-autoconfirmed users to create an article.
- Before submitting, I recommend asking for some help at the Teahouse and the AfC Help Desk. When you're ready, use the source editor and add

This is part of the progressive deployment of this tool to more Wikipedias. The communities can configure how this feature works locally. [67]
- At some wikis, newcomers are suggested images from Commons to add to articles without any images. Starting on Tuesday, newcomers at these wikis will be able to add images to unillustrated article sections. The specific wikis are listed under "Images recommendations" at the Growth team deployment table. You can learn more about this feature. [68]
- In the mobile web skin (Minerva) the CSS ID
#page-actionswill be replaced with#p-views. This change is to make it consistent with other skins and to improve support for gadgets and extensions in the mobile skin. A few gadgets may need to be updated; there are details and search-links in the task.

- Writing an article can be a very complicated task. For beginners, I recommend The Wikipedia Adventure, an interactive experience guiding you through Wikipedia's norms.
- Next, you can try improve actual articles. You can find articles that need improvement through your Homepage (the same place where you asked your question). There's even a help option for quick access to some of our rules.
- When you're ready, check out Help:Your first article. Make sure to read this carefully, as that process will create a draft that will be reviewed by others before publishing.

- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 27 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 28 June. It will be on all wikis from 29 June (calendar).
- The Minerva skin now applies more predefined styles to the
.mbox-textCSS class. This enables support for mbox templates that use divs instead of tables. Please make sure that the new styles won't affect other templates in your wiki. [73][74] - Gadgets will now load on both desktop and mobile by default. Previously, gadgets loaded only on desktop by default. Changing this default using the
|targets=parameter is also deprecated and should not be used. You should make gadgets work on mobile or disable them based on the skin (with the|skins=parameter in MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition) rather than whether the user uses the mobile or the desktop website. Popular gadgets that create errors on mobile will be disabled by developers on the Minerva skin as a temporary solution. [75] - All namespace tabs now have the same browser access key by default. Previously, custom and extension-defined namespaces would have to have their access keys set manually on-wiki, but that is no longer necessary. [76]
- The review form of the Flagged Revisions extension now uses the standardized user interface components. [77]

- How media is structured in the parser's HTML output will change in the coming weeks at group2 wikis. This change improves the accessibility of content. You may need to update your site-CSS, or userscripts and gadgets. There are details on what code to check, how to update the code, and where to report any related problems. [78]
