The Media Viewer RfC arbitration case is closed following a suspension period of 60 days. The following considerations were taken by the Committee:

  1. The WMF has introduced a new staff user account policy, prohibiting the use of the same account for both work and non-work purposes. With effect from 15 September 2014, staff are required to segregate their work and non-work activities into separate work and non-work accounts, with the work accounts containing the identifier '(WMF)' in the account name.
  2. Eloquence (talk · contribs) has resigned as an administrator on the English Wikipedia. While this does not prevent him holding staff administrative rights on a designated work account, it does mean that as he resigned the tools while an arbitration case was pending, he may only regain administrative rights on his personal non-work account via a successful request for adminship.
  3. The WMF has announced a number of initiatives aimed at improving working practices. This includes a new software implementation protocol which provides for incremental roll-outs of upgrades and new features.

Well, thanks, both, for the vote of confidence. But the aftermath from last year's run was the single most unpleasant thing I've experienced in the last ten years, and I have no wish to repeat it. I could see myself voting for you two, though. :) Like competitive sauna, it's an objectively unpleasant activity, but one for which some people seem to have an inexplicable affinity. 28bytes (talk) 05:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Floq's observations should be required reading for anyone considering a run. 28bytes (talk) 08:40, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Tell them ;) - Looking at the GGTF case, I am tempted to ask the candidates a second question, "Are you willing to vote for a ban, ever?" And a third: "What do you tell a colleague who can't imagine any other so-called solution (as if it was one) than a ban?" - But now I promised just one question this year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:00, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
OK. That's a pity. I think you'd romp in. Oh well. (It's an unusual field this year.) --Anthonyhcole (talk · contribs · email) 11:02, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
That it is. I suspect we'll see our first non-admin Arb this year, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. 28bytes (talk) 14:51, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
I think it'd be a bloody good thing. I also want to chime in on the "get your arse into the ring" posse. WormTT(talk) 14:52, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

Merry Christmas, 28bytes!
Hey 28bytes! It's been a while since I've been on Wikipedia, so I figured I'd stop by, check up on some old wiki-friends, and make sure no-one broke the wiki in my absence :P Merry Christmas, 28bytes! Dylan620 (I'm all ears) 00:00, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Dylan! Good to see you here again. 28bytes (talk) 17:32, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you sir, it's good to be back! I'm making it a New Year's resolution for 2015 to return to active editing, so expect to see me around more often :) I must say that a lot has changed since I was last active, and I'm liking a lot of these changes, some of them being the introduction of the education program; the fact that I'm notified when someone links to my userpage; the fact that DYK submissions now need to be checked for copyvios (DYK is an area I plan on returning to, btw); the fact that you're a 'crat when I was at one point considering nominating you for adminship ;) --Dylan620 (I'm all ears) 22:38, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
Time does fly, doesn't it? Welcome back, my friend, and happy new year! 28bytes (talk) 03:35, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Apologies for the late reply, but thank you sir! Hope your new year is going well so far! --Dylan620 (I'm all ears) 03:09, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

Problem with changing username

Dear 28bytes, Thanks for changing my username, but my username on the File history of a image that I uploaded, did not change. The picture is IAU_Najafabad_Branch_logo.png. --Masoud Rezazadeh (talk) 02:09, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Unfortunately I believe that is a limitation of the software: it does not update the username in the file history when a username is changed. 28bytes (talk) 02:13, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Helping change my user name

Montanabw tells me you're wonderfully good at helping folks like me. I want to change my username to something without gender. But she warns me I have to avoid being called a sockpuppet (love that) so have to unregister and register. As usual, I'm clueless. My wiki skills aren't up to snuff and never will be. (Long ago, when wiki was looser and freerer, I created maybe 200 articles. I couldn't begin to do that now, so much has changed.) Anyhoo, if you could you please tell me how to unregister and reregister? I'd be quite grateful.Stellabystarlight (talk) 20:48, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Stella. I'll be happy to help you. I'm on the road at the moment, but when I get to a computer tonight I'll follow up with you on this. 28bytes (talk) 21:28, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
OK, so there are a few options. Are you looking to rename your current account to something less gender-specific? Or would you like to abandon your current account and do a "clean start" with a new account? 28bytes (talk) 23:12, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Request to change username

Hi, Would it be possible to change my username from Ecksand to Benson. Thank you, Ecksand (talk) 18:05, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi there. Since someone already registered that username, you will need to either choose a different name or request to usurp it at WP:USURP. 28bytes (talk) 18:36, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

Change of Username

Hey there! I'd be grateful if you could change my username from K scheik to Clouso, because I wasn't thinking and put my real name in my username. Thanks in advance, k_scheik (talk) 21:46, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

@K scheik: unfortunately there is already a user named Clouso. If you can think of another name you'd like, you can use Special:ListUsers to see if it's taken, and if it's not taken you can request a rename on Wikipedia:Changing username. Feel free to swing back by here if you have any questions or run into any trouble. 28bytes (talk) 23:04, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Of course it is a "grey area" if external sources disagree whether it is correct or not. Nobody suggested that editors own articles, however an individual editor certainly doesn't own the use of a phrase or expressions within WP either. More importantly the 3rd paragraph of the introduction of WP:MOS states: "Style and formatting should be consistent within an article, though not necessarily throughout Wikipedia. Where more than one style is acceptable, editors should not change an article from one of those styles to another without a good reason. Edit warring over optional styles is unacceptable. If discussion cannot determine which style to use in an article, defer to the style used by the first major contributor."

Pete5677 (talk) 17:12, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

@Pete5677: The problem is not so much that you are editing to remove unarguably correct syntax and replacing it with what you admit is a linguistic "grey area" (which is bad enough), it's that you are removing correct syntax and replacing it with gibberish like "In 2014, a CD entitled was released called "Recollections" comprising of...". It's clear you are not actually looking at the text you are editing, and are just knee-jerk undoing other people's work. Please don't do that anymore. 28bytes (talk) 17:28, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

WT:WikiProject Breakfast

hi, i know you're not 'the Flow guy' but you were so helpful the other day at Conrad Hilton Jr.'s article that i figure you can pass this along to the appropriate personnel. when clicking on http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Breakfast using Firefox, an error is returned:

i hope the error is reproduceable by you... i tried it using windows8.1 with Firefox and with Chrome. here is the error message returned by Chrome:

my IP is somewhat dynamic but if you have any questions for me, feel free to drop me a note. :) 173.85.203.211 (talk) 06:09, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

I need your help

Hello 28 Bytes, 3 months ago I created a draft entitled Hostyle Gospel which was rejected and I don't understand why. Hostyle Gospel meets general notability guidelines because their music is covered in reliable sources to satisfy the first requirement of music groups. The Jam The Hype Live With Chris Chicago is a nationally syndicated radio show. Hostyle Gospel did a live interview on the show and their music plays daily on their station. There are many other sources on the draft proves that Hostyle Gospel meets the general notability guidelines for a musician. Please look over my Draft:Hostyle Gospel. Thank you Graceking123 (talk) 06:54, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi Graceking123. I've taken a look at the article and its references, and I find I agree with Jacob that it's a borderline case regarding notability. A deletion discussion could probably go either way. I don't know enough about The Jam The Hype Live With Chris Chicago to say whether it would count as a reliable source for a gospel group; you may want to run that by the reliable source noticeboard to get their opinion on it. I would also recommend asking for help identifying good sources at WP:WikiProject Christian music, although they don't appear to be super-active at the moment. If you can identify at least one source that is (1) unquestionably considered a reliable source (e.g. from a discussion at RSN) and (2) covers the artist in depth (as opposed the Allmusic reference, which has a discography but no biography/discussion of the artist), I think you'll have a good shot at getting the article accepted for mainspace. If you can identify two or more, then you'll have a really good shot. 28bytes (talk) 14:41, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
jamthehype.com is on Wikipedia:WikiProject Christian music/Sources, so it probably qualifies as a reliable source. @Graceking123: The links at that page might be helpful if you're looking for more sources. --Jakob (talk) 15:51, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

Dear 28 Bytes, I think I did it! I've found another Wikipedia:WikiProject Christian music/Sources source for my Draft:Hostyle Gospel article. Yhe article had a ton of information to back up other points I've made in the draft. If it's possible could you look over this article and determine if it's ready for mainspace? I've work very hard on this article and I want to see it to the end. Thank you Graceking123 (talk) 05:31, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Jordan Maxwell page

Hi. :-) Sorry to pick on you; you were last :-) on a list of admins who could help. It's about the (deleted) Jordan Maxwell page. I think it's outrageous that he doesn't have a wikipedia page. (I'm pretty new here) There was debate about deleting the page before, a couple of times, but it's impossible to assess the fairness of what was said without seeing the page, which is now impossible. Apparently you could send it to me, or something? I read about userfication - well, I don't really want his page under my name! But just to be able to read it, by whatever means, would be great. Otherwise, having to propose undeletion of a page I haven't seen seems odd. Thank you! :-) Yesenadam (talk) 00:46, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
