User talk:28bytes/Archive 29
Thank you! I want to offer my sincere thanks to everyone who supported my recent request for bureaucratship. I had no idea how an RfB would go – for it to have gone that smoothly was a wonderful surprise for which I am very grateful. I will do my best to ensure that your confidence in my 'cratting skills is not misplaced. 28bytes (talk) 00:54, 2 August 2012 (UTC) |

request
Hi. This is really just to save me a bit of legwork : )
I'm slowly going through your contribs. I was wondering if you could link to the last several times you've opposed at RfA (besides clear NOTNOWs). And also, when you've opposed/supported an RfA which was contrary to an overwhelming result. (You opposed, most everyone supported, or vice versa.)
If you would rather not, no worries, I'm sure I'll get there eventually : ) - jc37 01:04, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

- No worries.
- I did find it interesting that you apparently never once did go "against the pack" to oppose a candidate. And after looking over your contribs... You sure you aren't one of those "sleeper accounts" doing the seemingly political "right" things? I'll have to keep an eye on you to see how long til you too delete the main page... : ) - jc37 13:41, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Heh. Thanks (and thanks for the support.) It's an interesting finding about not opposing an eventually successful candidate; I hadn't realized that was the case. 28bytes (talk) 14:27, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

- As a note, that link should probably appear on all RfB's. On another note, the AFD link should probably appear on all RfA's and RfB's. What do you guys think? I might bring it up at WT:RfA Ryan Vesey Review me! 02:28, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Userpage critique
I have critiqued a lot of userpages and whenever I do I always get comments saying that I should not. For this reason, I decided to write a page saying why I do this. I hope that on this page I state a simple idea and then restate it in several ways - I would not hope that anyone would need to read more than 2-3 sentences anywhere in this essay to understand my point. What do you think? Is it obvious to you why I do not approve of the content of your userpage? - User:Bluerasberry/userpagepolicy Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:51, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Do you really think this is appropriate?Chedzilla (talk) 22:40, 29 July 2012 (UTC)- Ched, 28bytes invited him to do this here. So Bluerasberry is an outlier on an RFB that is like a gazillion to 2... so what? What harm is there? - Hi Blue Rasberry. Thanks for stopping by. My previous userpage had a little bit more information about my interests. Is that closer to the type of userpage you prefer? 28bytes (talk) 02:18, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yes - but I wish you understood why. This is not about my preference; it is about the needs of new users. And it is not about a type of userpage; it is about principles of advertising - identify the brand and pitch the product or service being sold. If you re-added a statement like this "I'm also interested in classic (retro) gaming, and the Atari 2600 platform in particular... if you see any notable Atari 2600 games that have red links in the List of Atari 2600 games, you can help out by creating an article for them." then that would fulfill my expectations and give anyone who visits your page an idea of who you are and what they can do when they visit you. Right now I feel like you share nothing personal nor give anything to your visitors. It is no fun to visit a social website without profiles and without getting options to do something, and I assert that community representatives have a duty to make other users have fun. Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:54, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I think I understand where you're coming from. I've restored some of the text I had in there previously. (To be honest, I don't recall why I removed it in the first place, but I'm certainly happy to put it back.) 28bytes (talk) 14:20, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

- I have to say that Bluerasberry has a point. I'm not a new editor, but I still check userpages. I feel more comfortable with editors whose userpages give at least something away. It makes the person seem more human. Userpages that redirect to talk pages or don't exist at all are the worse. Ryan Vesey 13:38, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

A Belated Congratulation
On your successful RFB! Also, do crats retroactively get al of the admin tool,s or do you need to be both an admin and a crat (as I see you are)? Thanks, Electric Catfish 23:03, 2 August 2012 (UTC).
- I'm under the assumption that the admin tools are part of the crat package as well; however, if they weren't it would be fairly humorous because a crat could desysop themselves. Ryan Vesey 23:07, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- When User:X! retired, he desysoped himself. 28bytes (talk) 23:09, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! Technically, an editor can be a bureaucrat without being an admin, but no one (on English Wikipedia, at least), has become a 'crat without first already having admin rights. I could theoretically remove administrator rights from my account and still close RfAs, for example. 28bytes (talk) 23:08, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
