Hello 238-Gdn, and welcome to Wikipedia. Two things. First, the prohibition refers to any page in the Arab-Israeli conflict topic area, not any edit, so you may not edit any aspect of a page that has substantial content related to the Arab-Israeli conflict topic area. Second, there is no clear consensus or guidance from the Arbitration Committee that edits made in the topic area do not count toward 500/30 (although repeated edits in the topic area after warnings will likely result in blocks and cause the community to yank the extendedconfirmed user right). Extendedconfirmed is automatically granted after 500 total edits and 30 days on the site, and once you have that user right, you can edit within the topic area. @Nomoskedasticity: The problem is that the software will literally automatically grant him extendedconfirmed (and therefore the ability to edit these pages) at 500 edits. We can't turn that off. We can remove it after-the-fact, but that should be preventative, not punative, and I'm not going to impose a sanction that will activate mindlessly in the future. Keep in mind that any uninvolved administrator (myself included) could impose a topic ban if necessary under discretionary sanctions, were disruption to continue after he were extendedconfirmed. I think this new editor is making a huge effort to be a good editor. He is getting up to speed nicely regarding Wikipedia policies and guidelines.

I really don't think I like the undertone of the last two posts here. 500/30 does not exist to close off all IP-related articles to new editors indefinitely. It is in place precisely to allow new editors to learn how to be a good editor before they make edits in a sensitive area. Talk above as though somebody will be waiting for them to make a mistake, goes contrary to that idea and the spirit of Wikipedia. Debresser (talk) 23:10, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

@Diannaa:Still not sure what you are referring to, but some of the history of that page has been deleted, so I can't check it out. Can you be more specific? As far as I recall, I only included a sentence or two from that site and I rendered them differently from the original, so there shouldn't have been a problem.
