Carl Sagan edit

First of all i hope this is the right place, i find it difficult to navigate these talk pages. Anyway, why did you remove the picture at the end of carl sagans page? I'm sure carl would have seen the funny side, he was a stoner anyway so it's not just nonesense. Please try to see the fun side of things =] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.26.65.99 (talk) 23:38, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It not a fun site. Try MySpace and Facebook.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:39, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why can't it be fun and informative at the same time? Isn't that what mr sagans series 'cosmos' was so popular for? Honestly, you wikipedia admins are basically the vorgons from hitchikers guide to the galaxy. It's depressing to see people actively destroy humour in articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.26.65.99 (talk) 23:41, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: i hope the message i sent got to you, a link to 'pale blue dot' (see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wupToqz1e2g) the line 'our imagined self importance' rings especially true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.26.65.99 (talk) 23:51, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Patent Nonesense

I am sorry Ron, but Campaign  was not Patent nonesense. Nor was it a farce or any kind of "joke" other than it was created in the lightest of hearts.

I am sorry Ron, but I cannot conclude your deletion of a perfectly comprehensible article was a decision motivated by a disagreement of the principle of the article and no amount of "inability" to understand the content.

If at all possible could you please replace it. I have links to it, and hopefully so do other people. I am rather hurt that something I worked very carefully on was declared "Nonesense" ... it was not nonesense. Disagree with the need for Campaign  if you want to, and feel free to pen a polemic against it - but please do not abuse your ability to delete perfectly comprehensible contributions to convey your opinion of my idea.

Yes. I am very serious. I am insulted.

Please alert me @ shea.reinke@gmail.com when you have had a chance to respond - I very rarely actually log into wikipedia. I rarely feel the need to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SheaReinke (talkcontribs) 13:14, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The page that was deleted did not have a snowballs chance of being able to stay on Wikipedia. It was declared "nonsense" by User:Andyjsmith. It is extremely unlikely that the page could ever be notable. Anyway I will userfy if for you at User:SheaReinke/Campaign , but it may not last long.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:57, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reconstituting my submission. May I ask that you weigh in on the "nonesense" verdict. It is a short article (for now) that I hope to eventually transform into a grammatical movement. Have you read the article and do you agree with "this andyjsmith's" opinion? If so could you take the time to explain in more detail than he did? I consider the article perfectly intelligible.

SheaReinke (talk) 05:35, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are a limited number of types of WP:CSD - G1 is just one of them. The page (as it stands) could very easily be thought to be nonsense, I know that some editors would call such a page a G3 (hoax), or A1 (No context) or A3 (No content). I doubt is A7 (No indication of importance (individuals, animals, organizations, web content)) is allowed for such a page, as it's range is limited. What tag is used for the CSD is not that important, so long as it approximates to the content. A proper notable page with appropriate sources, is very unlikely to be given a CSD tag, and if it was, it would be refused. The page as it stands will not pass those tests, and if it was seen in Article space would be deleted one way or the other (If no suitable CSD was appropriate then it would soon end up in Articles for deletion).  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:15, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replaced image

Hello -

I have been creating an article on Joel Iskowitz, which is still in sandbox form. I had uploaded an image given to me by the artist - the file is Iskowitz_SL_stamp_Scott_589.jpg - and I had limited license granted by the artist. The edit history of the image shows that you deleted it with the code "F3: Media file with improper license."

I've now replaced the image with my own original scan from a stamp I purchased, and have granted free public use - no claims of copyright - for the image.

I left the file name the same - not sure if that was a good idea or not - but I'm not clear about how it can be shown again on my sandbox, which I wish to publish ASAP.

Could you please help me? I'm not sure if I did the correct thing here, and I don't know what step to take next. Maxschlepp (talk) 14:06, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tricky (images often are...) Limited licenses are not allowed - because Wikipedia's license is basically that "anyone can copy the content", so any image must be released (or donated) on a full Creative Commons license, except fair use images. Your scan of a stamp might fall into "fair use" (may depend on how old it is). But note that Fair use images can only be used for the Articles that they claim on the image page - cannot be used in a sandbox! Can I suggest you post a question at the appropriate help page (WP:IMAGEHELP), there will be more editors with better knowledge of the Wikipedia copyright rules who will be only to glad to help you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 20:15, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the edits...

Hi there, Sorry about the edits on the Mary Janice Davidson book - I was just really surprised to read the stub about the novel. It contains the entire plot, every twist, including the ending. I've never run into this on Wiki before and it was very disappointing.

Richard Kastle

You have probably seen the Speedy Deletion message on the Richard Kastle talk page but I haven't seen one reaction at all. Therefore a message or a vote one way or the other is lacking. Richard Kastle is a wannabe pianist, unknown beyond his extremely limited viewing on youtube.

He now plays Holiday Inns and nursing homes for free.

His attempts to play the piano are a joke to any serious pianist.

Unfortunately, so few view his wikipedia article to justify the normal deletion process by vote.

Juri Koll is the only present editor of the Kastle article, and has caused immeasurable damage to the talk pages of other editors such as User Prof.rick, who, as a final measure had to delete his own talk page.

PLEASE, look into the Richard Kastle page and decide fairly if its presence in wikipedia can possibly be justified.

Why does Juri Koll claim to be the creator of this article while the page history indicates that Mike Caffey created the article? I suspect sock puppetry, probably conducted by Kastle himself. I therfore URGE a thorough investigation of the article by wikipedia administrators.

Thank You for listening,

Randyrhoads1fan (talk) 23:07, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is no CSD tag on the article page, that's why no one has taken any action - see WP:CSD for how to tag for speedy deletion. However, with so many references, it is unlikely to survive a CSD. The only option to delete it would be to nominate for deletion - see WP:AfD.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:12, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm curious as to your reasoning for reverting what appears to be an attempt to remove the copyvio text. 76.102.12.35 (talk) 23:46, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Because we have not got a crystal ball to know why an editor is deleting material from an article - that's the function of the edit summary, when left blank, we have to make up our own minds (and large deletes, with no summary are 99.9% vandalism). Vandal fighters do not "see" the whole page, just the changes and the edit summary - see File:Huggle.png for an example.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:54, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I wasn't clear. I haven't edited the article, I'm aquainted with Huggle (and it's drawbacks), and you haven't explained why you reintroduced copyvio material when the previous editor removed it. (Unless you're blaming Huggle?)76.102.12.35 (talk) 23:58, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear wikipedia. I would like to inform that I am the copyright owner of the written material found here- http://www.akhaasia.org/index-7.htm I am the NGO's coordinator and author of the material and its webpage. Many thanks Jacob Lane —Preceding unsigned comment added by Afect (talkcontribs) 23:56, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No good telling me, I'm afraid. I have no way of checking if you are really the copyright owner. The material must be donated correctly. Please see WP:DCM for instructions.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:59, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Ok. How about I put something on the page http://www.akhaasia.org/index-7.htm now that proves I am the copyright owner. I will open dreamweaver and type something which can be changed later. What would you like me to type?

Tnx

The user was removing rape allegations which he himself earlier inserted, and which was referenced to a dead link. Was that removal enough reason for a block ? Where do I start...
  1. It was tagged for speedy deletion as a hoax by User:Simon-in-sagamihara
  2. It was not laid out as per Manual of style
  3. There was not a single reference to back it up - therefore it was always likely to be deleted, articles must be notable to survive.
To help you proceed with editing I will..
  1. Move the deleted article into your user space - it will be found at User:Loggy616/Mgem, when I finished doing it.
  2. I'll add a standard welcome template to your talk page, which has many useful links to Wikipedia policies, to assist you in ensuring that your page will be suitable.
When you have finished your page, then all you need to do is move the page.
P.S. I have worked in the Philadelphia area for a short time.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:31, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to WP:Requested moves/Closing instructions, you are supposed to evaluate the discussion at Talk:Scott Green (American football official)#Requested move "just like any other discussion on Wikipedia", keeping in mind that "the quality of an argument is more important than whether it comes from a minority or a majority." Since all you wrote when you closed the request was "Page Not Moved" it is unclear whether you performed the evaluation mentioned in the instructions. Just find a good reference (on the web, or a text book, etc. - but no blog sites, as they are written by anybody), and add that data with your edit by adding <ref>Reference Details</ref> after it - for correct formatting of the reference details, see the page at WP:CITE which shows how to set it up for different media. (P.S. Avoid leading spaces in lines - it causes Wikipedia to put grey boxes around the text, and it won't wrap.)  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:40, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not nice is it. Do you think it's a hoax? There's not a mention in the Daily Mail when I searched it here, also the next one at this diff quotes The Sun, again nothing there here. You could ask for Oversight if you like OR I can selectively delete them. They are not lost on a selective delete - they are moved to a new page and deleted, an admin could find them if they wanted. A couple of suggestions. Have a read of WP:GAIAV, also look at some of the links at the top, they may be of assistance - possibly WP:AN - as to a better place to post this problem. That would bring your problem to the attention of many more administrators, experienced in those problems, than just picking a few to talk to. Also do consider making an account - it's quite free and can be used on any computer that you wish to log in - it's sometimes hard to follow who is doing what, when the IP addresses keeps changing, in addition one will then build up an account history to show their quality and policy knowledge (you just have to remember to log out - and, at login, not check the "remember for 30days box"!). Should you manage to prove a high degree of IP vandalism, then you would be a position to ask for semi-page protection at WP:RFPP - thus blocking all IP edits.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:32, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
