Hi I'm Stitchbird2, also known as Heidi Meudt. I live in Wellington, New Zealand. I'm a Botany Curator at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

I'm interested in botany, especially the taxonomy and evolution of alpine plants in the southern hemisphere, especially New Zealand but also Australia, New Guinea, Chile and Argentina.

I have taxonomic expertise in the plant genera Ourisia, Plantago, and Veronica (Plantaginaceae) and Myosotis (Boraginaceae). More detail on my contributions are outlined in my ORCID profile.

I started editing under User:Stitchbird in 2019 but I lost my password and didn’t have the username attached to an email. I have been editing regularly as of 2022 under User:Stitchbird2.

I edit in English & Spanish Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons on topics related to biodiversity, especially botany, taxonomy, plant species, specimens, scientists (especially botanists, botanical collectors, women scientists and New Zealanders) and scientific papers. I enjoy disambiguating names of scientists and helping make their scientific research and contributions more visible.

About me

I am a paid employee of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa (Te Papa), an autonomous Crown entity of New Zealand that provides a forum in which the nation may present, explore, and preserve both the heritage of its cultures and knowledge of the natural environment in order to better understand and treasure the past, enrich the present, and meet the challenges of the future. We are working to make our holdings, publications, and other resources more accessible to the public by engaging directly with the Wikimedia Foundation projects Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.

Conflict of interest statement

When I am editing the Wikimedia Foundation projects Wikipedia, Wikidata or contributing to Wikimedia Commons as part of my official professional duties, I always strive to strictly abide by the accepted practices on conflicts of interest, neutrality, and notability of that particular project. Because Te Papa's educational mission is in line with Wikipedia's mission to disseminate knowledge freely, I will not make edits that I do not believe are in accordance with that Wikimedia Foundation projects practices and procedures. Therefore, I will not make substantive edits to articles related to Te Papa as an agency (e.g. Te Papa), or its personnel. Instead, my edits and contributions will be to contribute subject matter expertise, for example to improve articles about Te Papa holdings or subjects relating to New Zealand (e.g. Phar Lap, New Zealand art).

You can find out more about this project at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa WikiProject. Te Papa’s work on Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons is being governed by internal guidelines, which we have published on-wiki in our WikiProject page. If you believe I have made an error or violated Wikipedia’s norms, please do not hesitate to contact me. My email is also listed on this page in case I am not regularly checking my talk page.

Creation of Wikipedia articles in my area of expertise

[edit]

I’ve been briefed on the conflict of interest rules including those around being a subject-matter expert editing within my area of expertise. I understand that I’m expected to make sure that my external role and relationships in my field of expertise do not interfere with my primary role when editing Wikipedia i.e. to further the interests of the encyclopaedia.

Because of the topic of my expertise and specialisation I will be citing peer reviewed journal papers that I have authored or co-authored. I will also be writing Wikipedia articles on species where I was a key researcher in the process of taxonomic identification for that species. I am aware of the possibility of a conflict of interest issue with citing my own published work. Papers I have authored or co-authored will only be cited if that paper is relevant to the topic and conforms to the content policies of Wikipedia. Any citation will not be excessive nor will it place undue emphasis on my work. I will be citing the most recent quality research available whether it is by me or someone else.
