Salman Al-Malki

Salman Al-Malki, born on September 16, 1990, is a Saudi journalist and the editor-in-chief of the Ajel electronic newspaper since November 2017. Before this role, he served as the managing editor of Ajel starting in 2013, after leaving his position at Sabq newspaper. Al-Malki has played a significant role in the digital news industry in Saudi Arabia and is known for his contributions to expanding Ajel's audience beyond Arabic speakers by launching its English version. His career is marked by notable interviews and a focus on increasing the transparency and reach of Saudi news.

Early Life

Salman Al-Malki was born in Riyadh in September 1990. He began developing an interest in technical matters at a young age. In 2009, to advance his career in journalism, he enrolled in the Department of Media at King Saud University, where he specialized in journalism. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014. Journalism Career

Al-Malki began his journalism career at the age of 17, joining the electronic newspaper Sabq in 2007. His work at Sabq contributed to the early establishment of one of the most well-known digital news platforms in Saudi Arabia. In 2013, he resigned from Sabq to join Ajel, where he played a pivotal role in restructuring and expanding the newspaper’s reach. Under his leadership, Ajel introduced an English version aimed at providing non-Arabic-speaking audiences with access to accurate information about the Kingdom. [5] [8]

Ajel Newspaper

Al-Malki's appointment as the editor-in-chief of Ajel in 2017 marked a new chapter for the newspaper. He and his team launched Ajel’s new identity in 2018, which was followed by the introduction of its English and Persian versions in 2019. Ajel has since become one of the most recognized digital news outlets in Saudi Arabia, with a significant social media presence. Al-Malki is credited with transforming Ajel into a platform for international readers seeking truthful coverage of Saudi affairs. [2][7][1]

Major Interviews

Al-Malki has conducted several high-profile interviews throughout his career. One of his most notable interviews was with Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the Egyptian Orthodox Church. During this interview, Pope Tawadros praised the progressive changes happening in Saudi Arabia and the importance of cooperation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in addressing regional challenges. Other Contributions

In addition to his journalistic career, Al-Malki serves as a member of the Executive Committee and the Media Center Director for the King Fahd Exhibition and Events, a role that aligns with his broader contributions to the media landscape in Saudi Arabia.
