God'sGirl94 have you read the links on the welcome template which was inserted into your talk page by User:Dabomb87? Police,Mad,Jack (talk · contribs)☺ 11:27, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
If you have not already please read the following, obviously missing the ones you have read before on the welcome template out, the most important are:
- Wikipedia:Neutral point of view
- Wikipedia:No original research
- Wikipedia:Verifiability
- Wikipedia:Reliable sources & Wikipedia:Citing sources
- Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not
Please note that you do not have to read every single line, just enough so that you understand the basic principals of each of the guidelines shown above. Also, please do not rush your self on reading these, take as much time as you need. But what I do ask is that you notify me on the page when you have read them. Questions from an adopted orphan
[edit]- First, am I using this page correctly, i.e. in asking my question on this page? Also, why doesn't this page have a "New Section" tab at the top? Is there a page template that causes that tab to be shown, or something?
- Second, thanks for adopting me; it's been a while, and I haven't had time to do any wiki work. To refresh your memory, I created the Next Generation 9-1-1 article, which others have since contributed to. You reviewed it and posted your comments on my user page. Just wanted to thank you for that.
- Question: when I created my wikipedia account, I chose the name "NextGen911". This was a mistake - it caused another user (Jc3) to think I was connected to an org website I referenced (www.nextgeneration911.org, I think). So he removed that reference because of the suspected COI. Anyway, this wouldn't have happened if I hadn't chosen a username similar to a subject I was contributing on. So the question is, should I change my username, or is it even possible to do so? If possible, how do I do it?
- I plan to replace all the refs in the Next Generation 9-1-1 article with refs using a "citation template". I think I get how to use it, but how about if I just post an example of how I plan to use it here, and you can give me advice on whether my usage is correct and adequate - OK?

- My reply to your questions:
1. Yes, you are using this page correctly - please feel free to ask any questions you have on it and I will try my very best to answer them. The "start a new section" tab which is in the form of a "+" sign is only present on article and user talk pages, whereas this is not a talk page so it does not have that feature, but the attached talk page does have that feature.
2. Your very welcome for both of those things.
3. The use who removed them references thought that because of your username you was connected to that website, and was using your own work as a reference - which is not allowed. You do not have to change your username if you do not want to, but if you do see Wikipedia:Changing username but make sure you read all about it.
4. I understand what you mean. The citation templates should only really be used if you are referencing from a book, journal, conference report or paper, paper-based encyclopedia, news article, or others for this citing information see Wikipedia:Citation templates. But if for a website I would say use the normal "<ref>YOUR WEBSITE HERE</ref>". If I have not answered your question please feel free to post here. Thanks. - Thanks for the replies; You have been very helpful. After reading the "Changing username" page, I think I'll simply create a new account, rather than requesting a username change. Then I can just note on the new account's user page that I'm the same person as NextGen911, in case someone wants to know that. NextGen911 (talk) 13:12, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- My new username is User:dashunderscore; I placed a note on my new user page, and on the user page for my old account (User:NextGen911). Let me know if I did anything incorrectly, and thanks again for your advice. Dashunderscore (talk) 12:56, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
- It all look's fine. Please do not hesitate to contact me for help in the future. Thanks. Police,Mad,Jack (talk · contribs)☺ 13:52, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
