FPC Edit War

Olly, thanks for your comments. I don't know how to resolve anything with this guy since he refuses to discuss the issue on the talk page. If he continues, I suppose we can request a block. That shouldn't be too hard to justify.—Emote Talk Page 23:29, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Excuse me, Emote, you have NOT responded to my message posted on my talk page many weeks ago! I see also that you and Olly are both members of the Free Presbyterian Church, therefore hardly neutral. Olly, you insist that an honorary doctorate is legal. In that case, you won't mind my changing Van Morrison's page so that there are references to Dr. Morrison, will you? You see how ridiculous it is? Talk Page 06:38, 18 March 2008

WP:ANI Thread

Hi Olly. You've been mentioned at WP:ANI in connection with the article Haplogroup I1a (Y-DNA), at which you reverted some edits by Aaronjhill (talk · contribs). You may wish to review or participate in the discussion - specifically, there is a request for clarification as to your reasoning for reverting all of the user's edits, some of which appear to be constructive. The thread may be found here. Thanks in advance, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 12:54, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, should have come here and talked to you about your revert sooner. But I thought that the blocking of Aaronjhill (talk · contribs) was so unfair, I wanted to get reversing that underway asap.
He'd put in a lot of work on that article over the last couple of days. Of course, everyone gets into differences of opinions from time to time about what should be in articles, but a revert that big (6k) deserves at least some discussion on the talk page or his user page. Jheald (talk) 13:05, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

The PROD tag was a good call, and I see that the article has since been redirected to Forensic entomology. I'll watchlist it, just in case - but no worries, that looks like a good analysis to me. Thanks, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 02:43, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: reintroduced deleted page

Yes, the article title FADVOCAT is the same, as is the user who created it, but the content is substantially different this time, so strictly speaking I don't think they can be caught under the repost rule. It doesn't appear to meet WP:CORP and could be deleted under CSD A7, but FisherQueen has taken it to AfD already, so we'll see how it plays out there. ~Matticus UC 11:15, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

March 2008

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Lolcat: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. StaticGull  Talk  16:17, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Vera Peterson

Why did you arrogate it upon yourself to delete my contribution about Vera Peterson to "unseen characters"? It's people like you who have gradually made the Wikipedia less and less enjoyable. It's one thing to delete material that's unverified, inaccurate, libelous and so forth, but increasingly I've been encountering self-appointed gatekeepers who like to decree exactly how much information belongs in an article. That's unfair. In any case, Vera Peterson was the quintessential unseen character (like Maris on Frasier). Oh, by the way, you have quite a few spelling errors on your home page--it should be "there's," not "theres" and "further" not "furthur." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.27.73.102 (talk) 19:14, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Account Creation - olly150

Confirmation of user

Hey I temporarily suspended your access to the ACC Tool as you don't appear to have read through the documentation. The tool is a powerful program and there is obviously a trust element involved. Once you've read the guide, get back to me and I'll return your access, thanks —— RyanLupin(talk) 22:20, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok well I'll return your access. It was a bit harsh of me anyway. Just remember that the ones that are in the admin category are there because regular users (members on Wikipedia) cannot create them as they are too similar. Wikipedia admins can override this. Remember when you close a request, an email is sent to the user (except if you drop them) to alert them of their account status. If you have any problems, feel free to get back in touch with me, regards —— RyanLupin(talk) 22:36, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi there, I suspended your access to the tool again, per this reason: "You still haven't read properly. I completed that request, and you opened it up again as taken. Please read the tool documentation, and don't open up closed requests to gain user creation counts". Feel free to reply on my talk page, or on the IRC channel #wikipedia-en-accounts for discussion. Thanks, The Helpful One Review 21:24, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
If the request still appeared as open, then it would have given you an invalid checksum error. So the only way you could have closed the request as taken is if you clicked reset request next to the username. Is that correct? Alexfusco5 21:46, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Also, with the new system - people with the account creator right, can create the admin requests on the tool, by overriding the anti-spoof. The Helpful One Review 21:47, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, yes - that's new, just happened today, probably why it's not been updated yet! The Helpful One Review 22:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
← Okay, I'll AGF and restore your access, but next time please be careful when closing requests as taken. Usually this means that another user has already closed the request, so I would refresh the page before closing a request as taken Alexfusco5 22:05, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Please slow down

Please don't make CSD taggings like this. Not only was there a clear and obvious assertion of notability, but – except in the case of attack pages and blatant vandalism – it's never appropriate to tag articles for deletion less than a minute after they're created; it's also disruptive, as it potentially drives off new users (who won't necessarily understand userspace, and will likely create articles in the mainspace a line at a time). – iridescent 16:50, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry. I was a bit hasty in tagging there. I usually do take a closer look at edits. I promise to look even closer in future. Olly150 16:55, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
No worries... As a general rule, try to avoid A7 tagging except on pure "Hi, I'm John and I'm 14" vanity pages – for athletes, singers etc use {{prod}}. It won't kill Wikipedia to leave the article up for five days, and if someone is planning to work on it, it gives them time to expand it. – iridescent 17:00, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
No probs, thanks Olly150 17:03, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

IEST-RP-CC005.3 and IEST-RP-CC006.3 Deletions

I am wondering why my two pages, IEST-RP-CC005.3: Gloves and Finger Cots Used in Cleanrooms and Other Controlled Environments and IEST-RP-CC006.3: Testing Cleanrooms were deleted.

Both of these articles are about these standards. These are standardized procedures that are used by professionals in the fields of cleanroom and controlled environments. I see no reason why they should be deleted.

Re: Thank you

Olly150 thank you for your comment, my page actually got deleted and I just re-posted it and am trying to get help to re-write it so it is appropriate, also if you could help me with the linking that would be great. Thanks, mnpil Mnpil (talk) 18:24, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (File:Radisson Sas logo.gif)

You've uploaded File:Radisson Sas logo.gif, and indicated that it's used under Wikipedia's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Wikipedia policy requires that non-free images be either used or deleted, so if this image isn't used in an article in the next week, it will be deleted.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 09:40, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice.

Reverted my edit, thanks for your comment! Fraud talk to me 02:50, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Olly 150, I removed the {{db-repost}} tag that you placed there because CSD#G4 is applicable only for recreation of articles that were deleted after a deletion discussion earlier. There has been no AfD of this article in the past form what I can see but feel free to start one if you want. –Capricorn42 (talk) 18:05, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the response, I knew this article was deleted in the past as I had marked it as a copyvio during its second deletion and it was in my watchlist; I've added {{notability}} tag to the article, will try to comment if there is an AfD. –Capricorn42 (talk) 18:25, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Exari's Contributions to XML

Olly, I think you marked Exari for speedy delete. The entry aims to summarize Exari's contributions to XML standards and technology, which include standards processes like OpenDocument and Legal XML eContracts, as well as establishing an open source XML editor project, all of which have been done over the past decade. The company is a true leader in the application of XML to the world of contracts and legal documents. I added some references which hopefully make this a little more clear. What do you think? File source problem with File:Limavady Grammar School Logo.png

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Limavady Grammar School Logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:25, 10 February 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

It is unlikely that a school will release their logo under a free licence as suggested on the image page; if this is in fact the case evidence of permission needs to be provided, see WP:PERMISSION. Otherwise the image should probably be kept under fair use, but the source still needs to be provided. Thank you. Camaron | Chris (talk) 20:25, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi - I was on a page about Psittacism ( http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Psittacism )and got a message dating back to 2008 saying I was vandal here.

It was here: http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User_talk:75.6.2.191&diff=cur

Am I misunderstanding this?

It doesn't actually refer to the page that was possibly altered.

File permission problem with File:Roger62404-.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Roger62404-.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 02:04, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:National Crime Agency Headquarters, Old Queen's Street, London.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:National Crime Agency Headquarters, Old Queen's Street, London.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 09:20, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Template:Infobox minister of religion/doc requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
