Useful editing tips to copy and paste

[edit]

(look at this in editing window, as the code will not be displayed on normal page)

To change the color of a paragraph, put this:

before the paragraph (no space, same line); and this:

at the end of the paragraph. (no space, same line) So far, it seems like every paragraph needs to be coded this way, I could not yet find a way to colorcode multiple paragraphs at once. If someone finds out, they are welcome to add/edit this section.

If you want to only color of one word, put this: before the word; and this: after the word

  • probably no class the week before Christmas (19th) meaning: present current project next week; organize next project on December, 12th and finish it until January, 9th. From January, 16th we'll be busy with final projects, which will be presented on February 6th and 13th.
  • did a status update: things are going good
  • questions: proper newspaper terminology? English newspapers are differently structured than German ones; & a word from the other group

Nov, 28th

[edit]
  • Wikipedia game: look for something country related, look for a broader topic (go up), then look for sth more specific (go down) --> Wikipedia is structured by categories (Galaxy metaphor)
  • How to insert references: Citing sources
  • How to link to other articles: Wikiedia links
  • we looked at this article about Rolf Tschiersky
  • new project: two groups of 6 people.

topic group 1: die Zeit; group 2: continental Germanic Mythology check below for links

Nov, 21st

[edit]
  • First project:

note: knowledge of the 'real world' is important. If that is not possible: (insert wisdom here)

before you start doing anything: read the text!

Dion put 'useful editing tips' on our term page

keep doing what we were doing already (comments by proofreaders were great!)

Dawson added 'Get More Out of Google' to our term page

if the German article is not optimal, change it. Or don't. And just upload a great English version.

specific problems: tense & aspect (e.g. Dion's translation at 2.8 on our project page),

  • Homework: look at this article and consider if there's any way to improve it for publication, play the Wikipedia game, polish up your translation from last week until Saturday, Kyra will put together a coherent text until Sunday evening; everyone: polish up the text until Tuesday. Add your name after you've looked at it. Someone will add references. Someone will upload it until Thursday morning.

→ (tbh I didn't catch any of the ones I didn't link, sorry)

  • learning how to vote democratically by using sign language & then voting for which article to take
  • we finally settled on Europa-Park as our first project together
  • looked at Europapark sections that need to be translated, divided them up, distributed them amongst everyone
  • Homework: Translate at home. First person on the list does first 100 words, second one does the next 100 words and so on and so forth .... then proofread the person/section above yours.

Deadline for translation: Monday @ midnight
