YellowTube is a free video based search engine, combining classic internet search with video results. Unlike Youtube, YellowTube is a business directory first, social video platform second. YellowTube is the first of its kind in combining business service search, with pure Video-Only results. Some text information are supplied to identify the owner of the video, but information is kept at a minimal.
A first for South Africa
YellowTube is the first video platform business directory/search engine based and developed in South Africa. YellowTube was established in 2014 by Leilani Snyman Kuter[1], a local business woman from South Africa. Although YellowTube is ideally aimed at businesses providing a small video introduction to their products and services, there are some comedy, music and other categories included.
History
YellowTube was created in 2014 due to the fact that there were no other mediums offering the services of a pure Video Based business directory search. YellowTube attracted thousands of visitors since its launch in March 2014.
Inception and public acceptance
Up to July 2014, YellowTube has received 58,273 page views ( Google Analytics ) since its inception in March 2014.

In essence, YellowTube is combining classic yellow pages, with video results.
YellowTube lets you "find" what you are looking for, and see a short video on the topic. Yellowtube will provide a video (uploaded by the business owner / operator) that showcases features that may be of use to the viewer. Although YellowTube does provide some basic categories for "browsing", video listings are not specifically forced into any set categories. Any topic of video can be uploaded, but it has to fall within the guidelines of what YellowTube essentially is: A video based search engine.
Cost to viewers
YellowTube is a free service. Any user may use the service to look for products and services.
Cost to video uploaders
YellowTube is free. Any user may upload business listing videos. Videos are however reviewed and inappropriate or uncategorised videos are removed.
Unique Search
YellowTube uses a ranking algorithm to relate synonymous business listings with each other. User may land on a particular company's listing, but have the option to view all the other relevant business listings (video based) that is related on keyword level, to other similar products and services listings.
Categorising search results based on advertising sales
YellowTube does not currently categorise business listings based on an advertising scheme. All listings are included in search results based on a unique search algorithm developed to provide the best possible result on the platform.
How does YellowTube acquire its video listings?
Internet uploads
- Normal internet users can register an account and upload a video. Basic information is required to be displayed with the video. All uploaded videos are "reviewed" before it is made accesible in the YellowTube search results. Inappropriate videos are removed.
- All video's are uploaded with a set of "key-words" that are used in the triggering of results. A combination of Video title, address, keywords and other properties are used to determine search results.
YellowTube Staff Uploads
- From time to time YellowTube staff will upload content and correctly classify the videos to be available in certain categories/keyword combinations.
