How To Create a Wikipedia Article (Sensible Cheat code)
[edit]- Found any kind of startup. being a student from "Known" University has advantages as you can easily mislead others for notability standards.
- Get funded from "known" (at-least who has Wikipedia article already) investors
- Get a media attention from popular media in your regions (as you are from known institute and funded from known investors, you will easily be published or pay for it! We are living in Capitalist world!)
- Now as you have citing from media and created a brilliant promotional page for your startup. Build one for you as well.
- Important note: Now a days Online Platform are good as any idiot with no background or credential in Journalism can write for you. and Better you can write about yourself. Ever hear platform like Techcrunch, Mashable, ET Tech column and many others.
- Do not forget to add random known wikipedia article within your article so you can be easily recognized by others.
- You are successfully created a page for your company and even now one for you as well. Do not forget to mention in your website, to your customers, to your employee about it. Never to forget sharing on your facebook or to your friends that you have got one Wikipedia Page for yourself.
- Get your startup closed and make another story for "Learning from my failed startup". (You will still have a news for that and even the wikipedia articles.) Even after lots of cleanup you will still have 1 (ONE) Paragraph with 4-5 lines in it.
- If by any chance People like me catch you and put you on AfD. Make an army of people who can write all kind of non-sense, and make the Discussions so large that even the Decision maker get bored of reading that. If you are in Luck, you will be Kept as "No Consensus" or "Numbers of Vote" Wins. and If you can create fake Id from various Id to make vote count increase with citing Meets "Corpdepth" and "GNC" like policies. It will be countable as well.
- And here Idiots like us fighting for, debating your Notability for being Encyclopedia materials. You have got your back with Media and "Online" links to support our GNC policies.
- Life is good for you. and we are discussing things on AfD. If vote gets ahead of it. People like us will lose. You win with your failure also.
Examples are always better to understand such matters :
- Do not worry you are not an "Encyclopedia Material" as being known among friends does not give you an Achievement of lifetime. Such a shame that Wikipedia is created as World's most notable Encyclopedia/ source of "Knowledge". We are building garbage like this. Which No One really care about. What do we want to make this Wikipedia?
Purpose of being on Wikipedia
[edit]I have the highest regards and I will always owe a great amount to Wikipedia and its community for being the most credible, neutral, notable source of my knowledge, I definitely learnt immensely and trusted this encyclopedia for improving myself and gaining great knowledge. Definitely way beyond my textbooks, newspaper or magazines or books.
I am here to make the Wikipedia What Truly it is? what it stands for? Definitely not some place for companies or people to place their own content for their own promotion and gratification. In the past you missed lots of companies and people to be verified or tested the water of authenticity. Here it is. I am here to put the Light on it. No More Self Promotion or past wont be spared if missed. Go to your blog to write the self -Nonsense. This is Wikipedia.
Wikipedia is not some people or company directory where people can list themselves or their companies for purpose of being on Wikipedia and nothing else.
Notability clearly states the companies, people or any events should be on Wikipedia because they are enough notable to be covered by independent media not once, twice or repeated popular media but they should have been covered by various media significantly.
Wikipedia is becoming Blog-Spot or some content medium to write about themselves or their insignificant startups or companies who just got coverage because they got seed funding from notable investors or either started by some elite family. These startups comes from Tech background and knows almost everything about how to be on Wikipedia either by listing themselves by few media coverage or being missed by community because there are few only who can manage it. and definitely its not possible to verify each and every articles intensively.
People are using references and citations as TechCrunch,ReadWrite, GigaOM, Mashable, Review websites, Startup blogs, Press release channels, Press Distribution websites for proving their notability. Even sometime citations coming from Washington Post, NY Times or other popular media sources or journalism, where they have covered companies or people for once in their lifetime. It is very easy to get covered by most popular media like this, or once in a life time, As Wikipedia clearly states Notability does not mean to cover by popular media at once is enough to become an Encyclopedia material or to be part of Wikipedia. They need to be covered or notable enough to get attention by journalist. But articles are using these journalist platform for their publicity. They are using popular business blogs or news coverage for their own commercial advantages, they are merely a trade blog specialize in particular categories. Wikipedia is not some Directory, Blog, Catalog, Content Distribution platform. It is "WIKIPEDIA".
There are good developers in the world, and no doubt technology and internet is changing our world like never before. Notable startups, people or companies deserve their place on history or being a part of encyclopedia. But there are ample amounts of articles written for non-significant companies from Software, IT, Ecommerce, Blogs or such categories, that it loses meaning for those which meant the great things to our world. Just because they belong to Tech community and know how to mislead the Wikipedia process of article selection, does not make them any notable. Either these companies are funded by VC or known investors, they want to use Wikipedia to use their advantages for being creatig the great impact and they never get tired bragging about it. Oh! look we are into Wikipedia. They are either paid or written by themselves.
There are more significant companies or people from other industries in modern world who deserve better place in Wikipedia But they are not here because they are not from Tech industry or does not know how to write here. So small startups of less than 10 people, highly paid for online promotions gets coverage in special blogs or get their articles published in Major media. It does not make them significant as Wikipedia clearly states notability does not mean to get covered by 1 or 2 media once in a lifetime. It has to be covered by various independent and credible media in a repeated manner.
These companies or people have influence and definitely money to get them published for once in Time (magazine), The Economist. The Hindu, Washington Post, NY Times or many other most notable media. As they also need something to publish or probably they are no different than being a commercial organization, getting those company a one time space does not harm anybody. But that coverage do not make them notable for being and Encyclopedia Notable.
I am definitely not here to delete each and every page of tech industry. I understand the importance of IT and technology in this era. Definitely no intend on deleting Microsoft, Apple, Google or smaller one but significant from Wikipedia. Just do not want this encyclopedia to become News Blog for each and every article that publishes in popular media.

Imagine an Encyclopedia
[edit]In our childhood we have given the chance to have Encyclopedia for our knowledge. It comes in volumes or sometime a single book for particular category. It always covered the most significant part of history that once should be aware of. Imagine that same encyclopedia not comes in volumes but abundance of newspapers, is it possible for even the most gifted people to read those newspapers written in 100 years of time to understand everything. That is the reason we invented Encyclopedia, so history most significant events can be captured.
Daily news publishes articles, even the most significant ones, for reporting the events or people. In business we call such things as Press Release, and definitely covered by Major media as well.
Imagine our life at the age of 25 years, Everyday is new and welcoming. Some events happens and it changes our life, But they are rare, lets say in 25 years only 20-25 life-changing events that defines our life. That same thing happens with the History of mankind. Things happens everyday, and news has been invented to cover every single thing possible to build research. But Encyclopedia is something that covers the most significant part of the history only.
Sometime Journalist cover or discover something from the history the most significant thing that we missed. And it is merely covered by single media with Depth coverage. Definitely it becomes a part of History even it is covered by Single credible individual or media.
Wikipedia is invented to cover most Significant ones, it is not a diary for companies so they can publish their operational activities citing press coverage from the most notable media. It is definitely not Journal of some individual or company who writes everything happens in a day.
On my selection of AfD
[edit]"when you are right, nobody remembers, When you are wrong, nobody forgets" - Some quote from someone. I will surely make mistakes in the process as a human, I certainly do not claim myself notable or wise to judge everything with accuracy. Community is here to deny or accept the process. And I appreciate every point of view people have to present. It helps me improve further and better. Simply a small part of largest independent community of Encyclopedia.
Principles and methodology of selection
[edit]- Articles written in Wikipedia must be Notable enough to be part of Encyclopedia. Articles written with 2-4 press coverage and after being forgotten by media or people is not notable to be here. Company or person can be covered by media for once or at the time of lauch as a PR exercises. It does not provide any significance to the world or their contribution.
- Wikipedia is world's most credible source of knowledge than any other media channel or book. It is created to check the fact of the world so generation can learn about significant things, people, companies or events. Merely covered by media for once does not make them any significant. Else each and every company or person would be here who just either paid to few media or their network to covered by the media. It will destroy the integrity of Wikipedia as most credible source of knowledge. People will be reading it as a blog or some website made for unimportant information.
Danger of Wikipedia becoming Blog-Host for Funded Statups of anykind
[edit]Getting funded. Covered by media once in a lifetime. Specially covered by non credible-journalistic platform (Churnalism) like Business Insider, Techcrunch, Mashable, Venturebeat, Yahoo and thousands others from each nation. Who write those articles, no one knows? are they even real journalist? about funding, investors, story script given by none other than company officials for publications as they are funded. and eventually a failure. get money, get press, and fail. good to build the name. For such things wikipedia will become grand host for every funded company who gets even slightest amount from any kind of investors and get coverage instantly. There is nothing wrong with Notable startups. But these are not one of those. They use Wikipedia to build high degree of Online Reputation writing articles here. Mostly sponsored by Wikipedia Writer available in freelancer or online easily. Some of these writer have high credibility in Wikipedia as they are paid professionals and highly active in Wikipedia. Their sole purpose is to make money and wrote for Wikipedia who have merely covered by Media just once in most of the cases. Never afraid of citing Wikipedia Policies for their own self gain like: Wiki GNC or comments like easily passes Notability with citing references with no depth of coverage as Wikipedia demands or adhere closely to making it world's most credible source of knowledge.
