You removed the family information for this page. A cursory look at other physicists page, including Albert Einstein, Sean Carroll, Steven Hawking, Brian Greene, and Lisa Randall all had family information. As a matter of fact, I could not find a physicist page that didn't have this information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omnipheasantry (talkcontribs) 21:34, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

@Omnipheasantry: - Great! As noted in my edit summaries, please provide a WP:RS. The one you keep trying to add is a user-editable scraper that often copies Wikipedia, we cannot use that. Kuru (talk) 21:37, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Ok, I put the original source, although it is behind a paywall. Is that ok? How do you check it if you have to pay for the article? https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2FBF02018140 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omnipheasantry (talkcontribs) 21:57, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

@Omnipheasantry: - My apologies for not being specific. You'll notice my edits remove the "prabook" site - that is the unacceptable reference I was pointing to. To answer your other question, yes- you can use links behind paywalls. It's preferable to use ones that are accessible, but it's no different than using a book as a source - I'd still need to find the book. Kuru (talk) 22:01, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying. I found another source for that information and deleted the prabook source. Thanks for volunteering. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Omnipheasantry (talkcontribs) 22:34, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Block evasion by User:EJY257

In November, you blocked User:EJY257 for persistent edit-warring at Gemological Institute of America. He or she is now evading that block using User91.140.133.248. A block of that IP address seems to be in order. Thanks! ElKevbo (talk) 05:24, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Done; blocked a range he was working from as well. I have a few of those articles watchlisted - he just started up minutes after I retired for the night... Thanks!Kuru (talk) 14:18, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello Dear Kuru , I expanded it a bit and made it more respectable. What do you think about it ? I think it's quite close to wikipedia level.Rajuiu (talk) 12:07, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

Needs reliable sources - see WP:RS. Blatant PR sites are not helpful. Kuru (talk) 02:36, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Hole punch unsourced-date user

Good morning/afternoon! You blocked an IP from this article not long ago for adding random unsourced dates that they "found online." Looks like somebody's back at it (with, hmm, curiously comparable edit summaries); thought you might take a look. Thank you! - Julietdeltalima (talk) 17:35, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, clearly the same block evasion. Kuru (talk) 17:40, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello Kuru,

I very much appreciate you helping to make the article better. I have no excuse for the error, it was mine.

I have now cited this particular statement again and included in the citation the quotes that I used for the statement in the article. The quotes are noted within the citation "quote field".

Again thank you for your time and correction!

Hi Dear Kuru I have submitted the draft and i just saw that you made edits on it so I want to know what is the next process to successfully publish that page on Wikipedia? What type of citation Wikipedia need to verify that page. Is The New York Times citation is reliable? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.175.72.15 (talk) 16:19, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

I would encourage you to read our guidelines on reliable sources, as well as our policy on biographies. Given the nature of the junk that's been added to that article, I would strongly suggest reading WP:COI and ensure you are complying with our paid editing disclosures. Kuru (talk) 16:39, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi Dear Kuru I just added the citation in Draft:Syed Falak kindly review. Thank you! 203.175.72.15 (talk) 00:19, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
It's another SEO dump. This one is run by a group of PR people to make it look like a newspaper and have tried to hitch it to the reputation of a defunct historical newspaper. Find reliable sources. Kuru (talk) 22:28, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your prompt response. Is there any time limit to find the reliable source? I mean the draft will remain as it is? And one more thing. Can you move this draft into article space with or without BLP sources template? Something like Sarah Khan. 203.175.72.15 (talk) 03:54, 7 February 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 39.41.160.41 (talk)
It will remain in the draft state for six months after the last edit to it. No, I cannot move an unsourced BLP into articlespace. Why would you even ask that? Kuru (talk) 22:55, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I asked because I saw some pages like Sarah Khan those pages are in article space with BLP sources template so I thought maybe there is some way to move Syed Falak draft into article space.203.175.72.15 (talk) 04:18, 7 February 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 39.41.160.41 (talk)

@Mztourist:, yeah, that's always weird. There are several articles like there where someone probably posts the old meme on a forum somewhere and then there's a rush to reintroduce the joke. At least we can likely forget it for a year or so. Kuru (talk) 14:52, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
You're probably right about that, thanks again. Mztourist (talk) 07:51, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Draft:Sándor Belák

Dear Kuru, I see that you have been into this article draft and marked that "as before, this is not a WP:RS". With due respect, the article in my view is very objective, all statements are referenced by articles published by peer-reviewed scientific journals (it contains altogether 22 references). Would you be so kind to specify a bit closer what do you consider as a "not reliable source", so I can improve the article. I would be very grateful for all help! Thanks a lot in advance and have a nice day! Kind regards --Fmasszi (talk) 13:50, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

You mean besides the one "reference" I removed with a very specific edit summary noting why it was not acceptable? Kuru (talk) 13:52, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Kuru, sorry for the delay in replying. I do not see the "very specific edit summary why it was not acceptable". What I see you removed a Prabook reference

Portrait of Sándor Belák that's fine. What else should be removed? I have no COI, are not paid at any way, have no specific interest in this, just want to contribute and if I worked with it would like to see it public. All referenced articles are from peer-reviewed scientific newspapers. Please help how I can improve the article, I will do it if I know how. Thanks in advance! --Fmasszi (talk) 16:38, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your help with the Public Relations Society of America edit...

Hi, thank you very much for your quick response to making the update to the name of the Public Relations Society of America's Chair, I really appreciate it. Going forward, is this the type of change I can make on my own, or is it always better to request an editor's assistance as I did here? Thanks again.

Rod Granger Rhdg1 (talk) 17:41, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Howdy, Rod. Purely factual edits are usually fine, but it's a third rail. Given your COI and the PRSA's disappointing showing here, I would treat all the rails as electrified. Please understand that we spend a tremendous amount of time dealing with the far less reputable part of the PR industry, and nerves are frayed. I think it advisable to stick to the talk page out of an abundance of caution; just my opinion. You may also want to review WP:PAID for minimum viable interaction expectations. Kuru (talk) 18:19, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Retained search firms provide a guarantee to do an assignment over if the hired candidate leaves before a stated milestone (anywhere from one year to three years), generally with the caveat there has not been a material change in the position requirements or management team.[citation needed] In a retained search, the fee is for the time and expertise of the search firm. The firm is employed to conduct the entire recruitment effort from startup until the candidate has started working.[citation needed] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxxmaven (talkcontribs) 18:56, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Why are my edits considered disruptive editing or spam?

Hello, I am new to editing, and I thought I was being helpful in adding some stats on current trends. Why was my edit flagged?

"Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did at Telecommuting, you may be blocked from editing. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. Kuru (talk) 17:42, 2 February 2021 (UTC)"

GreenScreen1 (talk) 18:37, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

As noted, you've added a link to a non-reliable source - a content marketing blog. You've also copied the material verbatim: a copyright violation. Given the nature of the blog post, this appears to be promotional. Please don't do that. Kuru (talk) 18:42, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Edit summary

Hi. On this edit summary "rmv non-WP:RS : fake news site / SEO dump". The first time is sufficient. "Fake news" is a controversial and poorly defined term. And I've no idea what SEO dump is? I only raise this as edit summaries should help your fellow editors understand what you're doing, and this instead raises queries (and because you're using it across multiple pages). Mark83 (talk) 15:37, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

This is one of a series of blogs created by a single SEO firm which pretend to be "news" sites. This would be "fake news" in the literal sense, not in the random political jargon-of-the-day. if there's a specific instance you'd like me to double-check, I'd be happy to. Kuru (talk) 15:44, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Yeah I'm probably over-sensitive due to the use of "fake news" as a term in politics. On SEO, given a Wikipedia search and what you've said above I assume we're talking about Search engine optimization? If you're going to be reusing the edit summary it might be helpful to add a link in the edit summary. Like I say, it's just so that the edit summary is clear to all. No need to double check any edits themselves. Thank you for your time replying. Mark83 (talk) 15:49, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Given the adulteration of that phrase, I'll work up an edit summary that's more clear. I'm now seeing about 60 of those dumps that have been added in a campaign over the last month, so it's going to be more visible as I remove them. It's a mess. Thank you for the feedback. Hi Kuru, I understand and accept your point of view regarding the links to special articles like "Account based Marketing" - sorry if that was against the guidelines. But please reconsider the deletion of the 3 PDFs in product management. Months ago beside those links I have also added content and helped to structure the product management site, which had been accepted so long. The PDFs are not commercial and completely free of charge, so why shouldn't they be appropriate for further reading? The PDFs were directly linked (not the Website itself) and are so extensive that's impossible to transmit the content into Wikipedia... So in my view it's at least worth to discuss...

Rules for copyrighted materials

Hi Kuru, I have just noticed that my entry for Robert Fernea (UTex Professor of Anthropology) was removed for including copyrighted material. That seems to be the Reed obituary https://www.reed.edu/reed-magazine/in-memoriam/obituaries/2018/robert-a.-fernea-1954.html. This is confusing for me because the page, while considered an entry under their Reed Magazine portion of their website, is not marked with copyright anywhere on the page. It is part of an index of dozens of obits, listed in hyperlink form on the right side of the same page. Please help me to understand how that is considered copyrighted material when it is a) in the public domain with no sign in nor paywall b) has no indication of authorship and c) no mark of copyright. Thanks, Christine Z Gish Consulting LLC Gishconsult (talk) 02:32, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately, that's not how the public domain works today. You cannot take someone else's published material and re-release it under another license - license notification on the page or not. Just write your own prose; you can still use that publication as a reference. It may also be best to use the WP:DRAFT space for this. Kuru (talk) 02:55, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

Questions about Citations on Aeolian Harp Article

Hello, Kuru! I am reaching out because I noticed you removed the New World Encyclopedia from the sources on the page. You're much more experienced on Wikipedia than I am, so I want to know if citing the New World Encyclopedia is generally frowned upon. I know of its creators' biases, but I think based on the topic and in the context it was used the source shouldn't be too unreliable. If you could please explain to me why we can't cite the New World Encyclopedia, I will look for other, more accurate sources as soon as possible. --DoDososeSe (talk) 18:18, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

@DoDososeSe: Previous assessments have fallen squarely in the "no" camp (see here, for example). As they note, all articles there begin as forks of the corresponding Wikipedia article and are further modified. In many cases, the articles become spectacularly better, in others there is just a minor improvement - often large parts of the Wikipedia article remain. References are added without inline tagging, so it's very difficult to tell where the general references apply. As they operate generally as a wiki, this does lead to situations where we wind up sourcing ourselves. The other problem you allude to is indeed likely not as big a deal on this topic, but statements like "here facts are integrated with global, universal, or cosmic values" makes me question the integrity of the endeavor. It does appear that the NWE has some fairly good leads on sourcing - perhaps following a few of those? Kuru (talk) 23:15, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Kalimoun Thanks!

Hello Kuru! Thank you for your interest in the improvements I made to the CMB Thénia article. Sorry

I apologize for adding that unreliable source. I should probably not use my phone to visit sources and judge their reliability. Some sources even have her birth date as April 4, 1971. At least I've know categorized the problem for attention. It's hard in this case since she's Japanese, and some sources just use "b." to indicate "born" and as such are harder to find. --Heymid (contribs) 21:19, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Please help me figure out what the issue is

Hi,

I beg your pardon for not knowing that adding links to high-quality and unbiased sources is a kind of crime. And so I ask you to puzzle out this issue with me. Perhaps I have misunderstood something. But perhaps you have rushed with your actions.

It's about removal.

First, why can't one add a reference to a source that discloses this or that question as fully as possible, adhering to a policy of complete openness, unbiased and unprejudiced, as required by the classical analysis of scientific data?

Second, why can't one add a reference to a source that augments the Wikipedia articles with details that the parties behind them prefer to keep silent about?

I'm not sure if you have carefully examined the content on the source you removed. I agree that in some cases users add links to sources that deal with a particular issue in a very superficial, one-sided, or subjective way. But that is not the case here at all. This source is an independent and non-commercial analytical service, not affiliated in any way with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, and therefore does not take any side.

Please help me to deal with the situation.

Thank you in advance.

Pcworld (talk) 02:51, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

So you say. Another position could be that you're adding links to a three-week-old blog with explicit disclaimers of accuracy, some contributors that only seem to exist on that site, and a proxied domain. Your next step would be to read through the link to WP:MEDRS that you were given, and then start a discussion at WP:RSN. Kuru (talk) 03:31, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your informative reply. I will definitely implement all your recommendations.
However, your response, mostly aimed at finding flaws in the site (including technical or irrelevant ones), shows an overly uniform approach to evaluating any source. I don't know how capable you are of evaluating the quality and validity of medical information, but I'm definitely sure that due to your lack of proper medical education and/or specialization your judgment in this case cannot be unequivocally correct. That's forgivable, though, given your inability to thoroughly understand all topics at once.
Thank you again for your response and your work on behalf of Wikipedia.
Pcworld (talk) 05:34, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
I will give appropriate, and overly uniform, consideration to your response. Kuru (talk) 10:43, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

Virtual Event Edits

Still learning my way around Wikipedia and want to get your feedback regarding: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Virtual_event

I want to add the following copy to the end of the article. I understand my mistake in adding an external link that was inappropriate but why is it not acceptable as a reference? Alternately, the reference could be the GSA's blog, would that make more sense?

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, scientific associations scrambled to convert their normally on-site events into virtual ones in order to share all the scientific research needed to combat the pandemic. The Genetics Society of America (GSA) [hyperlink to https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Genetics_Society_of_America] was one of the early successes when they were able to convert The Allied Genetics Conference (TACC) event (only held every four years) to a virtual event in April 2020. Hi Kuru

First of all, I would like to appreciate your efforts to keep Wikipedia clean. I personally am very grateful for all that I learnt from Wiki.

I earlier had a 'Talk' with you when you removed the citation link I had added to this page: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_experience_design

Honestly speaking, while researching, I saw one of our close competitors has a link to their website(refer to citation 11) from the same page. And I also wanted to do the same for us (of course, I understand it has to be relevant).

So it would be great if you could let me know the 'right way' to do it, as our competition did for Citation 11.— Preceding unsigned comment added by UK777 (talkcontribs)

The obvious course of action would be to remove links that violate our policies. You may also want to read WP:PAID before making any other edits and ensure you are complying with our terms of use. Kuru (talk) 10:35, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Dear Kuru,

Earlier today you deleted a reference of the article Draft:Ladislaus of Ilok. Could you please explain me what's the problem with it? How could I know that the source is not reliable? And what about other sources: are they enough good to help the article in moving from draft to the main space. I am looking forward to your answer. Regards, --Silverije 22:26, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

Prabook is a scraper; they copy content from a variety of different sources, including Wikipedia sometimes. To make it worse, the material is easily editable by any user. They're not good about giving credit to where they copied the material from, but they do include a general disclaimer of accuracy on the site. You can read previous discussions at RSN: [1], [2], [3], [4]. I'm not sure I can evaluate the rest of the sources; I'm not familiar with Hungarian/German references. Citations of Unreliable Sources from me

Hi Kuru, I'm Xfhxzf

I have noticed that you removed that you removed a few citations on contributions I made, mainly because those sources were unreliable. But I also noticed you completely removed my contribution on August 15 when I added Mikey Graham because the citation I used was from Dating Celebs, which is an unreliable source. That's why I'm here to ask which one of these source's is reliable, is it (1), (2), or (3), which are possibly not reliable. If their not, I'll take some more time to search for another source if I have too. Make sure to right a reply. Have a good day. Xfhxzf (talk) 23:55, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

I'm sorry, all of those are scrapers. Pretty much any site that starts trotting out the "net worth" or star signs is junk. Look for sites that clearly have editorial oversight or at least a hint of professional supervision. Unfortunately, this deals with WP:BLPs and we need to be pretty tight on the sources. If it helps, I have a list of some of the common scrapers here, but there's quite a few more. Kuru (talk) 00:33, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, that list will help Xfhxzf (talk) 02:30, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Request for page draft

Hello Kuru, I saw that you deleted an article I created less than 24 hours ago. That was the first draft that was published and I was waiting for critiques on it so as to improve the article. How do I get the page draft back please so I can improve on it?

--Tosinopaleke (talk) 08:50, 18 May 2021 (UTC) Tosin Opaleke

The material was blatantly promotional and sourced to blogs and other open wikis. I would usually suggest a complete restart on something like that, but in this case, I would strongly advise that you avoid editing or creating articles where you have an obvious conflict of interest; it's not difficult to spot the relationship online. Given the nature of that relationship, the accusations of undisclosed paid editing do not seem to be far off base. Please read WP:COI and WP:PAID and be very cautious with your future edits. Account Based Marketing

Hello Kuru,

Thanks to inform me about Wikipedia and adding external links. I added this link as a source in appropriate section "Account-based marketing and the IT industry" (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Account-based_marketing). Because this guide is also based on B2B and IT industry and that section required a source for this. I was not intended of any affiliation or other monitoring benefits. I also know that Wikipedia provide Nofollow links and it will be no beneficial for me, but I added it as a source. Please add this add it can be a very useful source for that section.

Thanks— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ankitksi (talkcontribs)

No thank you. Simple keyword stuffing of promotional content marketing and pitch pages will lead to a rapid block. Please do not add that link again. If you are unable to evaluate reliable sources, then please refrain from editing until you've had a chance to edit more. Kuru (talk) 11:24, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

undoing edit

Please explain what you mean by "rmv reference to clearly identified wikipedia mirror per WP:CIRCULAR." I don't understand why you undid my edit to https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Peter_Singer.Maurice Magnus (talk) 15:13, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

@Maurice Magnus: The "everybodywiki" site is an unsuitable source as it is an open-editing platform. To make matters worse, the material on that page is copied from the draft space of Wikipedia, and clearly noted as such (the part where is notes "This article "Empathy Documentary" is from Wikipedia. The list of its authors can be seen in its historical and/or the page Edithistory:Empathy Documentary. Articles copied from Draft Namespace on Wikipedia could be seen on the Draft Namespace of Wikipedia and not main one."). Hope that helps. Kuru (talk) 17:26, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Yes, thanks.Maurice Magnus (talk) 18:27, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Thanks and Need a advice

Hi Kuru, Thanks for correcting my article. This is my first article. You have updated & removed few things, so what does it mean? Whether my article is approved and visible publicly or rejected? Kamesh Aravind P (talk) 21:06, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi sir/madam,
I have created my first article Draft:Gopinath Ravi and you have made some corrections in it. Thanks for that.
But what does it meant? What next Is that my article is rejected or do I have wait for your approval to publish it or anyone else do check and approve this article?
I'm not clear. Can you please clear my doubt in this? Thanks in advance. Kamesh Aravind P (talk) 11:02, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
Apologies for the slow response, I missed the first message. I did make some corrections that were required. One of your sources was a known "content scraper", basically a blog that copies material from other sources. You also included images that appeared to be copyright violations - that will need to be cleared up before they are included. I've only looked at those two things - the bad references is on a list of sources that I search for, and the copyright violation was an obvious problem that needed to be corrected immediately. Another reviewing will check the rest of the material and give you feedback as soon as is possible. Kuru (talk) 12:51, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Need your advice

Hi,

Hope you are doing good. You have cleared mistakes in my draft. It was very helpful for a beginner like me. Draft:Gopinath Ravi https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Gopinath_Ravi Can you check one more time please? And let me know whether it is approvable? Thanks in advance Kamesh Aravind P (talk) 00:33, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

As noted above, other reviewers will look at the draft - I'm not an expert on the topic. Kuru (talk) 14:24, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Regarding your Undo on My edits

Hi, I am Aditya, I saw you did Undo on all of my recent edits. I am a relatively new user to Wikipedia, and I am not sure how Talk works. Please forgive me if I make mistakes in Talk. Anyways, you replied on my talk, and I am not sure if I was able to reply to you there or not. Regardless, I want to reiterate that I can be wrong, and I willing to discuss. Just because I wrote an article doesnt mean that I am posting it for personal interests. Anyways, I made other edits too. I get it that you did not like my link for Bill Gates one. But look at my Color Psychology article, I mentioned Canva also, and I gave really useful information, the age based color preferences were written bad I improved it a lot. On my edit of Right To Repair, I had mentioned Snazzy Labs youtube channel, and his video, along with Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel and one of his video. The information about how Apple earned money by cheaping out, was really relevant to the Right To Repair. I get it you consider it wrong that I mention my own articles at some places, but remember I dont earn from views on my article, and I not the owner of site. And I am new to Wikipedia so I was unaware that mentioning own article is wrong. I admit my mistake. However I feel that my Right To Repair and Color Psychology edits were really really useful. Would it be possible that you make changes/remove "my" links when necessary and republish those edits. I dont want views, I just wanted to share info, and I consider my information valuable for Wikipedia. Though I am still open for valuable suggestions of yours. On Bill Gates wiki too, you can remove my link but please think, that I also edited the Latest Windows version and I corrected it to be "Windows 11", now it again says "Windows 10" which is wrong. Please recommend changes to get some information back to those wikis. Thanks. Adityamilyin (talk) 13:39, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Please stop adding links to your blog. As I clearly noted on your talk page, it is not in any way a reliable source, especially for your observations about living persons. The current release for windows is 10; 11 is announced, but not implemented. It may be best to use the article's talk page before making other additions. Kuru (talk) 14:17, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

One of your edits affected me very bad

Hello! Yesterday, on this page you had removed a citation which was of a social media forum, and replaced it with a citation needed template. But at the same time, I was removing that citation, having realised of the mistake before your edit, and also adding citations to the later sections, for which I researched for almost an hour. This caused an edit conflict which for some error in the system could not be resolved and hence I lost all what I did.

This is not a complaint and I understand it was completely coincidential. Just letting you know that such an incident took place. Excellenc1 (talk) 12:27, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

This is common. You can read Help:Edit conflict, which shows you how to recover your material at the time of the conflict. Kuru (talk) 13:18, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Promotional?

Hey Kuru!

Thanks for your recent edit to the financial independence retire early page here: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=FIRE_movement&oldid=1033615447

I was wondering why you felt that the addition of ChooseFI was any more promotional than Grant Sabatier, Vicky Robins, or Mr Money Mustache and felt the need to revert that edit?

Was there a better way I could have worded my contribution? I ask as the ChooseFI podcast was personally my first introduction to the concept of FI and I wanted to make sure they get some recognition in the space. They've had episodes with Mr. Money Mustache as well, so I thought it'd be relevant.

Anyways, have a nice rest of your week!

ZacTan3 (talk) 20:50, 22 July 2021 (UTC) Zach 07/22/2021

You are welcome to remove other material that you feel is blatantly promotional. Thank you for volunteering! You may want to read over WP:COI and WP:PAID before making any other edits, though. Kuru (talk) 23:28, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Why was my article that I wrote deleted?

I wrote an article about a FAMOUS rapper "SME DRO$E" and you deleted it wtf actually! do you even have any idea how long that page took me to create? 5 HOURS!!!! 5 hours of my time is now wasted thanks to you. I did not violate any of the rules here on Wikipedia and the content that i wrote about is verifiable. Please put back up my article or let me copy and paste it so i can resubmit thank you because it took me so long to create and i put ver hard work and dedication into it.

Smedrose (talk) 04:33, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

Well, let's see. "Be on the look out for the 19 year old upcoming artist SME DRO$E, While he is still grinding and dropping music to this day. If you don't know his name now you surely will be hearing and seeing his name alot in the future." An article full of silly puffery and really bad references. Given the fairly clear conflict of interest problems, please find another topic to write about. Further blatant promotional addttions will likely lead to limitations on your ability to edit here. Kuru (talk) 04:41, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

Please advise me on the page you just deleted (Abhishek Tiwari (Indian Entrepreneur))

Please tell me how I can or could have improved it? I am looking forward to your guidance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sareda211 (talkcontribs)

Avoid promotional language, source the material with clearly reilable sources. I'd keep any re-creation in the draft space until another editor has approved it. You will probably want to self-identify any conflicts of interest, please. Kuru (talk) 15:20, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

I am writing an improved copy

Hello Mr Kuru, I am really sorry for bothering you again.

I re-created the draft with much better language and trying to add only and only verifiabel information. (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Abhishek_Tiwari_(Internet_Entrepreneur)]

Can you tell me what types of references or links I should look for specifically in order to provide more authencity and support to the article.

I'll be obligied for the help, thank you.

I've seen

I've seen you and Tylertoney Dude perfect (talk) are cleaning the article "list of top international rankings by country" of the mirrors, and in particular you did it in the Spanish section. I'm also keeping an eye on it due to another discussion where a claim of these was made, and, I don't know if it's me as someone involved in the history projects, but I have to say that the entries for Spain are getting grotesque. Surely there's some agenda-pushing going on here in multiple pages. Many falsehoods and certainly not international rankings (at best you can call these "wrong historical claims"):

"first to confirm empirically the sphericity of the Earth" (a myth, the Ancients already proved it), this is what we have removed in another page, only to see it pop up here.

"first roman emperor born outside Italy" (that would be Claudius, born in Gaul, and not Trajan born in Spain as stated),

"best roman emperor" (optimus princeps for Trajan was a title, not a ranking. A personal achievement of a Roman becomes a Spanish record, what?),

"best roman empire period" (again, how is that a Spanish achievement?),

"Most brilliant Roman Empire Period" (how is this a spanish achievement, also the note says that Marcus Aurelius was from Spain but, actually, he was born in Rome),

"Most good roman emperors" (again same problems. And bold claim on top of that),

"first modern European army" (debatable, others would say it's the Swiss or the Swedish etc.),

"First scientific map" (debatable, depending on what it's meant by it),

"First recorded Atlantic Ocean crossing" (I may be wrong here, but that could be the vikings as mentioned in some chronicles.),

"First abolition of slavery in the Americas" (could be, i don't know, but it's unsourced),

"Most used Calendar in the world" (assuming it's true that the Gregorian calendar is based also on Spanish calendars, among others, it's still not Spanish.)

"First global Empire" (debatable, portuguese empire or mongol empire may take that claim as well),

"largest naval battle" (a battle in which three navies of three empires fought, but somehow it's a Spanish record only. Also, i'm not sure it's the largest ever),

"Largest UNESCO World Heritage Sites builder" (the source provided does not make that claim, and with all the Roman and Greek heritage sites i seriously doubt it.),

"Largest Renaissance building" (are we sure St. peter or others aren't bigger?),

"Largest palace in Europe" (the article on largest palaces puts it on 10th place. Which one is wrong?),

"Best outnumbered defence against the largest naval invasion ever" (what?),

"Best diet in the world" (what?),

"Most meaningful book of all time" (what a claim. I guess the Bible and Quran are behind Don Quijote?).

Plus all the record limited to Latin america or to the Spanish language or to some parts of Europe and the Mediterranean are simply regional rankings, not the scope of the article. And at this point, i suspect their credibility too. But i have not looked into them. Also, all the sources that i've looked for the claims above violate what's said at the top of the article: there are no comparative rankings or maps to back up the claims made.Barjimoa (talk) 07:13, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

Funny you mention it - I bookmarked the page and will get back to it when I get some free time. I track a number of web sites which are unacceptable sources an that was the only reason I as editing the article. I did notice that the general topic of the article is going to be a long haul. There are thousands of click-bait "raking" lists which were done by an intern or hack content farmer which would need to be pruned. Actual academic sources would likely realize the futility of any non-objective criteria for a list and avoid it. I'll circle back and see if some of the outright nonsense can be removed. Kuru (talk) 12:44, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

@Barjimoa: So I recently saw your message relating to the Spanish Section and I agree that many of the Afformentioned entries were not appropriate according to the list and hence should be removed. As by the time I am replying with this message the problem has been solved so now it is not a worry.

Draft : Essential Coffee

Hi Kuru,

I am really struggling to get an understanding of the circular references for citations in my draft? Is there some particular examples you can show me which Ive done incorrectly? Thanks KristianDow (talk) 02:37, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

The reference you added has this note at the bottom of the page "This article "Todd Hiscock" is from Wikipedia. The list of its authors can be seen in its historical and/or the page Edithistory:Todd Hiscock. Articles copied from Draft Namespace on Wikipedia could be seen on the Draft Namespace of Wikipedia and not main one." It's difficult to miss. Kuru (talk) 02:39, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

Creating salted page "Gabriel Weinberg" as a redirect

Hi! Ten years ago, you deleted and salted the article "Gabriel Weinberg". An alternative capitalisation, "Gabriel weinberg", currently exists as a redirect to "DuckDuckGo". Can the salted page be created with the same redirect? (I don't know if there's any danger of the same warring over non-notable content that there was ten years ago, so I'll leave any question of page protections up to you.) -- Perey (talk) 04:52, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Seems reasonable and done; I believe this also removes the protection as well. Might actually be a good candidate for DRV or just flat out recreation; there's quite a bit more information available on him than just his facebook page now. Kuru (talk) 13:17, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

August 2021

Hey, I want to let you know about this edit I made in 2000s article, I only wanted to change the dates from "1 January 2000" to "January 1, 2000" because the templates show to be "mdy" rather than "dmy". However, I only wanted to change the dates, but I have absolutely no idea how I reverted tons of edits but I assume it's a glitch. Thanks for undoing my edit, sorry about that. Dinosauce2001 (talk) 15:39, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

Gulf of Maine

Hi Kuru, I just reverted the Gulf of Maine article because the editor before you had made a large number of highly non-standard changes to the article. This meant I reverted your edit as well. (I probably should have used "Undo".) On going back to restore your edit, I looked at the external link you removed, and it looks to me like a legitimate link. What did you mean by a "Wikipedia fork"? Were you saying the website uses the Wikipedia article for its text? I didn't see that on the home page, at least. Anyway, I just wanted to reach out and see what your thinking was. Thanks, --Ken Gallager (talk) 12:53, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

It was also added by him, it appears, so your full revert keeps it removed. The "newworldencyclopedia" link is to a site that "rewrites" Wikipedia articles (forks from the original content), often leaving large parts behind. It's usually pretty redundant with the article itself. They also have a disclosed political/religious agenda in their revisions, but I doubt that's an issue with an article on a geographic feature. Kuru (talk) 21:44, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for clarifying. As sometimes happens, I was checking out the wrong external link. --Ken Gallager (talk) 12:08, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi Kuru, Many thanks for your help with the Sur, Omar article. I will use your feedback to fix the citation.

Best regards

SME DRO$E (Rapper)

Hello, Kuru my name is Brandon Loral and I just had a few questions regarding to my page that I have created, Therefore I am actually a professional writer for Wikipedia. I created a page for a famous rapper who goes by the stage name of "SME DRO$E" and I was just wondering why this page was even deleted and especially why you deleted it. This isn't just about something dumb or something not relevant, This page is for a FAMOUS rapper SME DRO$E. If you never heard of him or anything about him why don't you go and do some RESEARCH on him instead of being a lazy hater who just deletes his page after 5 seconds. I don't know why my page was deleted but it needs to go up and be published on the main page.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Bspence237 (talkcontribs)

Feels like I answered you previously in July and August when you asked the same questions, complete with all-caps "famous", but okay. You will need to use reliable, third-party sources, not blogs, paid placement, or user-created content. Avoid puffery like "he has crafted a unique style and sound that has been attracting attention towards the rising artist" Please also create a WP:DRAFT first, since you're clearly having trouble with your sourcing. Kuru (talk) 02:37, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
I have never talked to you about this before you might be getting someone mixed up with me because it definitely wasn't me. But literally check the sources they are site-able and everything I don't understand why you keep taking down his page.--Bspence237 (talk) 04:03, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
There is no mix up. I'll try one last time: each line of a biography must be explicitly sourced to a WP:reliable source. It cannot be sourced to blogs, paid placement like press releases, open wikis, user-created content or directories, or junk scrapers. You must find sources with a strong history of fact checking and editorial oversight independent of the subject and his agents. If you are unable to meet this requirement, then move on to a different topic. Kuru (talk) 11:34, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

Lorraine Laporte-Landry

You recently undid all the citation adds I made for this subject claiming I was an unreliable content scraper - what? According to WP:SOURCEDEF the citations met the qualifications - especially as the article had NO citations. Look IDC if you restore my good work or not, I don't know the subject, but to remove it was unfair and unqualified IMO. CaliBuds (talk) 14:25, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

If you feel any of those websites meet WP:RS, you are free to start a discussion at WP:RSN. I do not see, in any way, that they meet the definition of a reliable source. Take "fmsppl" - the site is a year-old, bare-bones biography scraper with no hint of editorial control or even authorship. To make it worse, the material there appears to be scraped from Wikipedia without direct attribution or the correct license, meaning you're linking to a copyright violation. Please be more careful when evaluating sources. Kuru (talk) 14:44, 7 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks but I guess it will go to another discussion as I disagree. I am careful and a condescending tone is unnecessary.CaliBuds (talk) 11:41, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello dear manager, I had a question about the article I published in the draft, can I publish it on Wiki or not?--Juror134 (talk) 20:33, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

I'd submit it through the normal process (see WP:DRAFT. Iranian design is not my first love, so I'd have trouble digesting the notability of any of those awards. 90% of most industry recognition over here is junk, in my opinion - maybe different in other places. Kuru (talk) 23:25, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
From a written point of view, how does the article qualify for publication?--Juror134 (talk) 09:27, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

SME DRO$E (Rapper)

Dear kuru,

Yeah you definitely didn't even actually look at the sources because the one source I added about him has literally everything you need to know about him or his life. None of the sources that I provided are paid for again you definitely didn't really check them and you are just saying some bs excuse every time. I get the one part in it about changing up that one line which i gladly will. I'm just still confused on how you think the sources I provided are bought or self made. Literally every source I provided has the Team name or person who created the source. These aren't stupid sources, Everything i talk about on his page theres a source I got them from and so inserted them at the bottom of his page. So I have no idea why keep trying to reject my page and you definitely have someone else confused with me because I have never created a page for SME DRO$E yet. You thought I just created this page for him with all this info about his life and think I just got it from my brain? LMFAOOOO I've been doing research on this artist for MONTHS. I'm not going to write about any other topic because this rapper deserves to be on Wikipedia. If I don't got good enough resources explain better and help me instead of going against me so that I can find them and add them in.--Bspence237 (talk) 00:18, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

I've looked at them. It's not enough that they say things about him; they have to actually be reliable. You also need to line them up to the statements in the article that they support - in this case, you've added a list of references at the end of the article and there's no way to match them up to the content. I did not see a single one that met WP:RS, and there were several that are, frankly speaking, complete junk. I've outlined the expectations for reliable sources above. Please, re-read the expectation, and pick your favorite three that you feel meet WP:RS and contain supporting biographical material, and I'd be happy to walk you through each one. Kuru (talk) 01:16, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

A request from a new user

Kuru (talk)Dear Kuru ,about raja pratapaditya there are many reliable souces from reliable websites, books and authors of repute . I would really appreciate your help by helping me out with the page concerned, There are users who have reduced the page to an uninformed one , where even if I consider my mistake of giving the reference of Bangapedia, still the arguement that the sources which hold reliability were removed by other users still hold strenght . Please guide me through the due process of creating a page which is neutral , reliable without exaggerations or downplays.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Samx don (talkcontribs)

Well, making legal threats was not the way to go about that. If you get that cleared up, I would suggest using the article's talk page to discuss your differences with other editors; focus on one small section at a time. Edit warring over a massive content change is just a really bad idea and cannot possible be addressed through edit summaries. Kuru (talk) 11:14, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

@Dillondanner7: As you surmised, the reference you added to support the addition is basically a content marketing blog; a freelance writer wrote some light material covered with pitches for the company's products. This really does not meet our criteria for reliable sources, and it also comes across as very promotional. On the plus side, the author indicates she's a pug mom, and pugs are the highest evolved of all dogs, so that's a point in favor. Kuru (talk) 00:02, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

The reason I am writing to you is to ask why you think this article sounds like an advertisement and how I can improve and remove any advertising verbiage and resubmit it. I actually did not create that page, I was just trying to improve it. You mentioned that there was repeated use of PR/SEO sources. I did manage to look at the history before you deleted and had noticed that there were a handful of other editors that worked on the page before me. In fact the version before I started was really bad and this is why I had decided to improve it.  Please tell me which are the bad sources and I will remove them. I am also a new editor so I am definitely not yet familiar with all the rules and policies, so any feedback on what exactly needs to change would be appreciated. Chelokabob (talk) 02:31, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

I wouldn't know where to begin. It's almost entirely SEO crap and puff press. "The New York Age" is a domain-squatted paid placement blog, fraudulently claiming to be the defunct newspaper. "Bangkok 101" is an advertorial blog. And so on. While I'm sure you just stumbled on the draft article recently recreated by COI Ugandan IPs, it would be best to focus on another topic. Kuru (talk) 03:30, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your feedback. I am aware of the possibility of people paying for articles and have been looking up unreliable publications here Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources. I had not seen the 2 that you mentioned on that list. I will take your word that The New York Age is a squatted domain. However, I did a bit of research on "Bangkok 101" and this seems like a legit print publication in English language that is Thai based. For example, read this article [5], the writer named it as one of the Top 4 English-Thai publications, or do a Google image search and you will see also their print magazine covers. Could you tell me how you came to the conclusion that this publication is an "advertorial blog?" I am just trying to understand better so I can avoid these types of sites in the future.
I also found that he is covered in several print magazines, which often have higher standards and would not publish articles for a fee. Could you tell me what you think of these?
[Centerstage Magazine 2021]
[Centerstage Magazine 2015]:
[Muscle & Fitness Magazine]
[Canadian Vegan Magazine]
[Yoga Magazine]
[World Vega Magazine]
And also the following are web publications that look like good quality to me. Please let me know what you think of these?
[PETA] (A major non-profit organization. There is not a way they would have accepted a fee for publishing articles there)
[Asian Lifestyle Magazine]
Thank you. I am still learning so your feedback is helpful. Chelokabob (talk) 01:40, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

Also, his picture as a model is posted at [Men's Health Magazine]
There are several others that could be legit, but I am not including them, as I don't have a good argument like the ones above. A couple of weeks ago I read a message from an admin telling someone that if the site has an editor and several writers with contact info in their about pages, usually it is an indication of a higher quality publication. Although that is still not a solid argument, at min we can eliminate the ones that don't have such info and concentrate on the ones that do. Let me know your thoughts regarding above. Thanks. Chelokabob (talk) 07:35, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Dear Kuru (talk): I was wondering if you had a chance to review my above comments? Chelokabob (talk) 20:48, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
I had not yet, but just did. What you're looking for is high-quality sources with a reputation for fact checking. Many of the scam sites I mentioned above pretend to have an "editor", and just put together puff pieces based on information either provided by a client or by a cheap search. A few of the above are probably fine (Muscle & Fitness for example). If you're going to re-create the draft article, I would suggest limiting it to material clearly supported by quality sources; and find copies that are not in archives uploaded by the subject of the article (or just note the issue numbers and pages) - that's a little suspect, and creates a questionable link to a copyright violation.
Given the nature of that article and it's history of paid spammers, I can't help you with this any more than the above. Kuru (talk) 21:25, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

Complex (??) copyvio help needed

Can you please take a look at Avalanche (platform)‎? I have discovered some copyvio edits today and have flagged on the article using the template. But I also see that some of the other much older content in the article is also copyvio. I have deleted the content with the source URL in the edit summary. Can you revdel that older stuff as well? I wouldn't know where to start tagging it as the content has been in the article almost since its creation. Thanks in advance. 10mmsocket (talk) 13:43, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

I tried to untangle it, but the original copyright violations would require hiding the entire history. That seems to create other licensing problems since we're losing the ability to attribute contributions all the way through. I've elected to delete the entire article under WP:G12 since there's just not a clean way to handle it. It's a new article, and can easily e re-created, preferably in draft space so they can work out the notability problems. Kuru (talk) 14:28, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
Amazing thank you! 10mmsocket (talk) 16:18, 23 October 2021 (UTC)

Respected SIR, I thank you for reminding me an important WIKIPEDIA policy about copyright. As a new editor I was unaware of this. Will you please guide me through about how to deal with this? About how to provide content which may not violate these regulations? But I agree on your reverts to Ramesh Thakur but couldn't understand the reverts to Raj Kumar Gupta as the source which I provided was from a newspaper. Regards. LALAJI1234 (talk) 11:17, 25 October 2021 (UTC)LALAJI1234

I left multiple links on your talk page which walk you through the policy and how to avoid the problem. Basically, it's simple: do not copy text from other places. There are some situations where this is acceptable, but for the sake of simplicity, just don't do this. I'm not clear on your second question; newspapers have a copyright on their content just like any other creative source. Again, just don't copy material. Kuru (talk) 11:29, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

So basically I don't have to exactly copy the content from source which I provide right?LALAJI1234 (talk) 11:56, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Write it completely in your own words; close paraphrasing is also problematic. That is, you can't just change a word or two and pretend it's your contribution. Kuru (talk) 12:16, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank your Sir for your advice. Will take care in future. I hope you won't mind if I post queries on your talk page. Regards. LALAJI1234 (talk) 12:20, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

help

would you be able to go into more detail on what I could do to get the william article done.

Black20037 (talk) 02:37, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

You will need to start by reading our guidelines on reliable sources, and the stronger policy requirements for biographies of living people. I really don't see any solid sourcing on that page. Kuru (talk) 14:47, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Question about using KnowTechie as a source

Hi, thanks for taking a look at Draft:SudShare! I saw your edit (at https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Draft:SudShare&diff=1052700639&oldid=1052549648), and appreciate you bringing the citation you removed to my attention, as I had mistakenly used a quote from the CEO to source the number of independent contractors, which was a mistake. I am, however, confused about the reasoning you gave for your removal of the KnowTechie article. For reference, you said "rmv non-WP:RS : SEO/PR firm blog masked as a news site". As far as I am aware, KnowTechie is a totally legitimate source, with a full editorial team, as can be seen (and contacted) at https://knowtechie.com/about. Hope we can resolve this issue! Yitz (talk) 02:12, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

  • Apologies, meant to post this under my paid account. Please reply to this comment, if that's okay with you :) Yitzilitt (paid) (talk) 02:20, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
The "founder and editor" of that blog is also one of the primary employees at EZPR, a "media relations" firm that facilitates media placement - they label him as a a "SEO genius". There are plenty of ads on the usual mercenary sites for "guest posting" on the blog, and it shows up in conjunction with known paid placement sites all the time. As a paid editor, you should seek to avoid junk like that at all costs. Use one of your other sources.
On another note, your employer will probably want you to avoid using the term "employees" in the infobox when describing their "independent contractors". Kuru (talk) 03:43, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
Kuru Thanks for letting me know, I had no idea! I won't cite them moving forward, then. I changed the infobox as well, per your suggestion. Keep on being awesome :) Yitzilitt (paid) (talk) 04:25, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
Btw, do you mind if I ask what your process is for figuring that sort of thing out? I'd like to avoid making similar mistakes in the future, and would love to help contribute in the fight against vandalism (on my non-work account: Yitz), by helping to catch these sorts of sites before others mess up the same way I did. Thanks, Yitzilitt (paid) (talk) 04:31, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diligence
Thanks for the extraordinary catch on Draft:SudShare! I would never have caught that problem with the source myself, and am honestly slightly in awe right now. Yitzilitt (paid) (talk) 04:36, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

I need your help can you review the article I created for Joaquin Domagoso.

Good day, I would have asked for help because someone proposed a deletion in the article I created, he said no because he is the mayor's son, this is not a basis to say that he is an actor and he doesn't have any significant roles on television. I also have a list of shows and series that he voted for me not to be deleted and someone also helped, I hope you can help me thank you. --7starunited (talk) 02:14, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

are these two editors the same editor?

Hi Kuru, I am asking you because I first noticed the paid editing of Ugochukwu75 when you made this edit to his talk page. Now, another account, named Binaza, made this edit which seemed suspicious to me. That Binaza account has made only a few edits, and when I looked at the edit histories, I can see that Binaza edited the same articles that Ugochukwu75 edited: namely, Joseph Carraro, Camila Osorio, Daizen Maeda, and Wheels (2014 film). Binaza also voted to "keep" the article Eder Sarabia, which was under consideration for being deleted, and that article was created by Ugochukwu75. I don't know exactly if this is illegal but if it isn't, it should be. Can you advise please? Fred Zepelin (talk) 15:38, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

Apologies - I'm going to be on and offline for short periods today. I'll try to look at it in detail tonight or later this weekend. If this is the account I'm thinking of, then I was pretty convinced this was an undisclosed paid editor operating in violations of our terms of services (see WP:PAID). If he's using a sock, or has an associate supporting his edits, then that's even more problematic. Kuru (talk) 16:36, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. Fred Zepelin (talk) 20:20, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

Modification to Candlestick Charts

Hi Kuru, the reason I decided to contribute to Candlestick Charts, fix the wrong formula and improve it its because the one in the article was wrong, confusing and also did not reflect even at all the citation. I don't think its correct to remove my reference while also keeping my edits in place. Also, the reference it's not a blog that pitches classes. It's a free educational website with a very comprehensive article with the calculations and formulas to plot Heikin-Ashi Candles.

Thanks for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Financial justice (talkcontribs) 13:25, 15 November 2021 (UTC)

List of companies

Hello Kuru, based on revision history you seem to be active on "List of companies" articles for various countries around the world. While browsing yesterday, I came across the one for Singapore and realised that there were many companies that were missing, despite originating from there. I realised that many were removed due to " Rv WP:BLOCKEVASION and unsourced ". I don't know the jargon of Wikipedia, but does it not seem counterintuitive to require every individual source for every individual company? It will be incredibly tedious and may put off other people now and in the future from including missing ones. Looking at other countries such as List of companies of the United Kingdom A-J, List of companies of Turkey and others, sources are not present either except for the introduction section summarizing the country's economic status. You seem much more knowledgeable about this so I hope you could enlighten me. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alfreay (talkcontribs) 10:45, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

I usually only get weird about it if there is something in contention, or if it's not present on the linked article. For example, Royal Dutch Shell is one of just a handful of companies where the list you would include it on is a little debatable. There are also many shell companies that like to pretend they're from someplace else; I'd want to see a non-primary source for their headquarters. There are also many time the linked article does not have, or does not reliably present the founding date or city - would need sources for that.
I saw the reversion you're talking about. If that was block evasion by a known sock, please be very careful about restoring it. Kuru (talk) 13:21, 20 November 2021 (UTC)

Thank you

I just saw that you were cleaning up copyvio, and there is more information about this situation at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Vidhinagpal - I was just about to look for an admin for assistance with this overall pattern, and if you can help, that would be appreciated. Need Advice

Hello Kuru,

This is Jagmeet Brar. I have seen that my wiki page is deleted because it was created by banned or blocked user. I appreciate your work sir. What best can be done ? Thank you Kuru, Regards Jagmeet Brar 103.41.26.60 (talk) 18:08, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

I really appreciate your recent help with identifying copyright violation issues some of my students have struggled with. I would love to better monitor my students' work as they do it, and wonder if you have any suggestions for tools that are available to automate identifying these problems so I can be more proactive in identifying and addressing them. Do you know of any automations for this you can share? Thank you. --FULBERT (talk) 21:35, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

@FULBERT: Apologies for the slow response. I'm not sure if there are any tools; I just do it by hand. Those two students didn't make it terribly difficult since they were directly copying from the single given source. There are a lot of times when it's much more difficult to find - close paraphrasing or obscure sources. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Kuru (talk) 02:33, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
@Kuru: Thanks for your help with this. I do wish there were some tools that could be used for copyright violations. I use Turnitin with my courses, though cannot run things outside student submissions through it, and the iThenticate service used in Wikipedia collaboration does not appear to allow for random checking of edits. Sometimes I see edits (overall, with my own editing or anti-vandalism efforts) that I know have to be copyright violations, though I at times cannot prove it so have to let them go. This is why I was asking if you knew of something that could help with overall anti-vandalism efforts of copyright violations. Thanks again.
@FULBERT: This is the best option for manually checking pages for copyvios: https://copyvios.toolforge.org/ . It's a little more comprehensive that the iThenticate system (which it can use, along with other sources for finding possible copyvios).--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 04:18, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Sage (Wiki Ed), Many thanks! FULBERT (talk) 05:51, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
Relatedly, could you adjust the block of User:Herry3999 to remove the autoblock? Since the student is using dashboard.wikiedu.org, their account made an edit that triggered the autoblock to hit the Dashboard's IP address, blocking all of the system's edits for all other users. Thanks!--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk)
it appears another admin has completed this task. Please let me know if there is still a problem. I may be a little slow to respond as I’m on a trip. Kuru (talk) 18:21, 2 December 2021 (UTC)
I went ahead and removed the autoblock to get dashboard.wikiedu.org unblocked immediately, in case you're not around. I don't expect the user to try to evade the block, given that their instructor FULBERT already knows about the issue.--ragesoss (talk) 18:35, 2 December 2021 (UTC)

Mothman edits

Re the Mothman edit [7]: sorry, the "22,000" instead of "2,200" was my mistake. As for notability:
I think it's notable as a fact relating to the subject, Mothman.
It may not be notable given that the source might not be considered sufficient to confer notability.
My twenty two cents... signed, Willondon (talk) 15:31, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

Meh. Just looks like trivia. I left it in there, though - no strong feelings. Better sourcing would always be good. Kuru (talk) 02:30, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi Kuru. Thanks for your feedback on my edit to Brand Management. Can i query why you deemed the link inappropriate? I have written 50k+ words on the subject on my studio blog ('How to build a brand') and felt that heading was missing. I would appreciate if you could help me understand.

Also, in your technical reply, you noted a link, spam.lbd.studio — I do not recognise this and the URL is dead; can I ask where you came across this? We block all subdomains so I'm not sure where this came from. Kind regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ninsqfw (talkcontribs) 10:26, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Please do not add your own self-published material to our articles; a content marketing blog does not meet our criteria for reliable sourcing, and this is clearly promotional. Thanks. Kuru (talk) 12:02, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your edit on Elevation Church here- tips for spotting these types of sites?

Good job noticing that site "californiaherald.com" as junk. Do you have any tips on how to spot these types of sites? It looks similar to others I have seen (probably a similar backend/template program like Wordpress or something similar that these sites use), but I'm wondering whether there are other things you look for?

I heard an NPR interview a couple of years back with someone who wrote a book on how some company(ies) was/were creating lots of sites which tried to appear as LOCAL news sites (for smallish cities and towns across the US) and even went so far as to hire contract reporters to cover things like the high school football games and other minor events, but their overall goal and profit model was to sell placement/publication of fake articles to entities like the Chinese government or US right-wing politicians, so the entity who payed could write whatever they wanted and the company would publish it as if it was an article written by a local journalist, and it would appear as (what many Americans believe as more trustworthy) local news, or the local news' take on national affairs.---Avatar317(talk) 00:45, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

These sites are just cancer, and there are thousands of them. Some are pretty obvious about it - clearly fake author pages with copied pictures and fake operating addresses. Others mix it up with AP and other syndicated news feeds to disguise the paid material. There are others that actually do have authors on staff and really create original content to disguise paid placement and "paid guest blogging", etc. It's just a mess. One of the easier ways to spot them is to search the usual paid gig sites like Upwork, Fiverr and such and look for people that advertise placement services; they usually have a brag list of sites.
I have a working list started here. Praxidicae (talk · contribs) was way ahead of me on this and has a similar list User:Praxidicae/fntest. I'm planning on adding some of the more obvious ones to the blacklist when I get a chance - since they're not the typical spam, I probably need to set up a discussion first and see if there are objections. And, yes - there are several farms that pretend to be local city/state/regional "newspapers". Kuru (talk) 01:12, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
Wow!!! Thanks for the great work in generating that huge list!! I've bookmarked both your and Praxidicae's lists to use for future reference. Thanks for the advice about the paid gig sites to find these sites. If I come across any that you or Praxidicae don't have listed I'll let ya'll know. Thanks again!!!---Avatar317(talk) 02:03, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

My Thinking

Thank you for this. Having said, I think I need to share my unique approach to articles such as the now deleted one. In my experience when combatting UPE or COI, I find that such promotional articles are prone to blatant multiple recreations thus my goal is to create an AFD, which would pave way for a G4 in the future which invariably lessens the burden of new page reviewers. Thank you for your time mate. Keep up the good job. Celestina007 (talk) 14:40, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

That's likely true. I'm usually happy to wait for AFD resolutions and oftentimes will not even participate when I've gone through and removed a bunch of junk sources - more neutral voices are better. There are a few instances, however, where it's just silly puffery and should not get a free seven days of high visibility adspace. If it starts popping up in multiple places, we can start blacklisting the material as well. It's also possible I'm just getting jaded with the unbelievable amount of spam these days. Kuru (talk) 14:48, 11 December 2021 (UTC)
Kuru, when you say you are jaded about the number of spam popping these days I understand perfectly what you mean. Infact I noted and correctly predicted here that spam would exponentially increase. Thus I’m not surprised. Celestina007 (talk) 20:56, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, and it's not just the amount of spam, it's the complexity of it. Someone adding a cheesy casino link to a random article is a two-second clean up. The proliferation of scrapers, falsified "news" sites that sell placement, and overt content marketing is just amazing and takes quite a bit longer to analyze. Just look at the section below this - obvious COI editor using bargain basement SEO. Just a time sink. Kuru (talk) 03:32, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

Need help for page Draft:Syed_Falak

Hi Kuru, I hope you are doing well. I just added more information into the draft page of Syed Falak please review it. If the sources are still not reliable and need more citation for verification then please add [citation needed] template where citation it is required. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 39.33.193.67 (talk) 08:51, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

I'll review when I get a moment. Note that any material sourced to silly SEO sinks and scrapers will be removed. Kuru (talk) 16:41, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
That was really bad. Every single site was a scraper, faek SEO site, paid placement, or user-created content. Maybe there's another topic you would be interested in that would not require you to scrape the bottom of the barrel to source? Kuru (talk) 03:26, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the review and your response. I'm really interested to improve Wikipedia pages. But I don't know how to find the draft pages on Wikipedia which need to be improved. Can you please share the list of drafts with me so that I will be able to improve those pages too. Thanks again and have a great day. 39.33.193.67 (talk) 08:07, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

Billie Eilish

Hmmm... I got to have to admit, when I was contributing with the Billie Eilish article a few weeks back, I did have a gut feeling this was going to be reverted after a few days since some of the info was from sites Blogger and others that would be considered "unreliable" by Wikipedia standards, surely in the future, there will be a much more reliable source to back this kind of info. ~ KennyOfHrub (talk) 05:50, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

Indiegogo blocked?

Hello,

I am adding sources I can find online about the company. I am also trying to add a source with a URL directing to the indiegogo website but I am not able to. It seems to be blocked by wikipedia. Any ideas? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bellerophongr (talkcontribs) 08:24, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

@Bellerophongr: That's correct. We do not allow links to project funding sites as they are typically used for spam. If there's a notable funding effort, it should be covered in third-party reliable publications. Also, please note that attempts to circumvent the blacklist by using redirection services is not allowed, please don't do that again. Thanks. Kuru (talk) 14:16, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

Shadee Elmasry Picture

How do I upload his picture to wikimedia commons without it being deleted? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jibreel23 (talkcontribs) 13:34, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

You'll need to find a picture with a compatible license. You can find help at Wikipedia:Image use policy which details our policies on uploading images. Copyrights are tricky and we take them pretty seriously as they expose us to legal risk; apologies in advance if you're trying to find an image of a public figure.Kuru (talk) 15:41, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

Promotional article

Hello Kuru, you deleted a new article I added to Wikipedia recently under the pretext that it is a promotional ad Although the article is about a public figure and human development expert in India, Mr. Bhupenddra singh raathore— Preceding unsigned comment added by Soukayo (talkcontribs)

No pretext. I'm sure he's an awesome life coach and "energy icon", but you will need to figure out a way to write the article without silly puffery and PR/paid sources. Thanks. Kuru (talk) 20:50, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for clarifying the reason for deleting my article. If the external links were the reason for the deletion, we can remove them all, they are only sources of information 196.84.107.221 (talk) 21:36, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
As noted, the links were just one problem. Kuru (talk) 18:30, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Sascha Malkovich

Hello, my name is Karlo Lamesic and I was hired by Sascha Malkovich (I know him in person) to build wikipedia page for him with information he supplied me. Today I finally completed and "published" his site and it says Draft:Sascha Malkovich. Furthermore, I saw that there already was a draft about him? I am not sure who did that, maybe some other colleague of his, anyways I saw that there was some dispute about references. To cut to the chase, I was wondering if You could please spare the time to review the site I made for him so it could hopefully finally be published and if there is something preventing it because it isn't following wikipedia guidelines, please tell me and help me to resolve that issue (this is my first time doing wikipedia site). Thank You in advance for Your time, and have a nice day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karlo Lamesic (talkcontribs) 16:41, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

You will need to read WP:PAID before making any other edits; please comply with that policy by make the appropriate disclosures as required. I'm removed your edits, which introduced more problems to the article, including the one junk reference I've been removing. Please read the warnings I gave the "other editor" carefully. Kuru (talk) 18:36, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
I am sorry for confusion, but I am not getting payed in any kind of way for making his page, I am doing this as a favor to him because he is my friend and he is not very tech savy. On the other hand, I never did any wikipedia edits before and that's why I asked You for Your help, I am not sure what is wrong with the article or references and I don't know what junk reference You kept removing since I just had put this online today 4 hours ago (over some other draft which was similar to mine). I never published anything myself because I was editing in my sandbox but I did sent him my work along the way couple of times which he supossedly sent his agent or his "people" to check or something, so if You already reviewed that same draft, it was edited probably by someone from them, but certainly not me. I am politely asking You once again for Your help, when You find time for it of course, to please tell me which part of articles should I remove or change and what references should I remove. I am guessing that the problem is that for some references the source is his social media pictures, is that correct or is there something else? Can You please tell me what junk reference are You saying You were removing? And there is a broken link for NCIS: LA, I should fix that too, but other than that I am kinda in the dark and I was hoping You could shed some light on the matter. Best regards, and thank You in advance for Your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karlo Lamesic (talkcontribs) 20:34, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
Then it's probably best to avoid using the word "hired". If that "source" is added again, I'm going to block the entire lot of you. This is silly, promotional editing from WP:COI accounts. Kuru (talk) 01:06, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
Subsequent spamming of more completely nonsensical sources by those "other" accounts to high visibility BLPs has caused me to look in to this further. I've run across several instances of completely faked sources and images; this is nothing by a scam at this point. I've blocked every account involved. Kuru (talk) 18:53, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

Talk: Level term life insurance

Respected Senior Editor:

I have added a link for title-level term life insurance. Level term life insurance is a broad subject that deserves its own article. As you can see, Wikipedia doesn’t have an article on Level term life insurance. Initially, I intended to write a separate Wikipedia article on this topic. I'm new here, so I don't know much about creating a professional Wikipedia article. In my role as an insurance writer, I strive to provide the world with the most relevant information about the insurance niche. The information available on this inserted link is 100% relevant to this topic. However, since the source of this information was not provided, you removed this link. For the error, I apologize. Now, as per your instructions, I have added the sources. As an insurance writer, I have written this article myself. Adding more sources in the future will further improve it and I'm trying my best to do so. I personally request you to please check the relevance of sources in the convertible term insurance area before removing it.

I look forward to hearing back from you! Thank You --Javeria Tariq (talk) 21:09, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

We're looking for reliable sources to support the material in the article. I'm not looking for improvement in your blog post that you're trying to insert into the article. Please read the COI link I gave you very carefully and do not add that link again. Kuru (talk) 23:25, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Honestly, I am unaware of these rules. Please accept my sincerest apology! Javeria Tariq (talk) 13:58, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
