From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to my sketchbook. For those of you who didn't stop by my user page on the way here (or who were just randomly clicking links without reading anything), this is a place I made to work on things to add to Wikipedia, or maybe other Wikis (but I'm more likely to make a sketchbook there, or just type a draft on a word document like I do at GSU). Most people call this type of thing a Sandbox, but I wanted to come up with something just a little more original. You can look if you want, just don't steal anything. After all, I can use this page's history to prove that I came up with something before you. Anyhoo, feel free to look.

Ben 10[edit]

Around the same time I made my account here, the Omnitrix article was nominated for deletion. We managed to keep it from getting deleted, but we had to move it around some. After a little inspiration from "You Can't See Me!", I decided to find some way to merge some info on the Omnitrix into its parent article, Ben 10. Someone else beat me to it, but here's what I put together. I'm just keeping it around "just in case".

Omnitrix[edit]

The Omnitrix is a watch-like alien device found by Ben at the beginning of the series. The face of the device can be rotated to displays various alien silhouettes. When the face is pushed down after selecting one of the aliens, the Omnitrix binds the selected alien's DNA to Ben's, transforming him into the alien of his choice. When used normally, the Omnitrix only allows Ben to occupy a specific form for a limited amount of time, after which it beeps and flashes red to indicate its deactivation. When it finally deactivates, it remains red until it recharges and turns green again. The recharge time is never consistent, even within a single episode, although it appears to usually take no more than several minutes. It may also implement a change other than the one Ben selected, serving as the show's running gag. Occasionally these accidental transformations result in a new alien form that was previously unavailable.

Various methods exist to bypass its normal limits, most of which require some technical knowledge of the device. Four buttons on the face of the Omnitrix act as a combination lock for the Omnitrix's full potential. When a proper code (out of billions) is entered, the Omnitrix will receive some form of enhancement, such as unlocking a new alien form. Another code, referred to as the "master code", allows Ben to remain in any form indefinitely and switch between different forms at will. By pressing the symbol seen on Ben's alien forms, he can either switch from any alien form to another or deactivate the Omnitrix, though only Vilgax and Ben's future self have shown the ability to do so.

The DNA in the Omnitrix is collected from various aliens across the galaxy. The Omnitrix can also absorb and integrate alien DNA into itself, as shown throughout the third season. Several versions stored in the Omnitrix have noted enhancements from the species they're based on, removing some of the more debilitating weaknesses of those species. It's been shown that each alien tends to have its own personality, which somewhat intermingles with Ben whenever he becomes them. The aliens have also been shown to age as Ben does, as demonstrated in "Ben 10,000" and "Don't Drink the Water". In the case of "Ben 10,000", the Omnitrix itself had also become larger and changed shape, either by expanding itself or being artificially modified. The aliens also adapt the user's clothing, a fact only made apparent in "Ben 10,000" and the "what if?" episode "Gwen 10".

Because of the manner in which it operates, the Omnitrix becomes difficult to remove once attached. The Omnitrix has its own defenses against enemies, though such defenses are mainly in defense of itself and not Ben. Should anyone attempt to remove it by force, it will emit a large feedback pulse to repel the assailant. Conversely, those who know how to operate it can do so safely, regardless of whether or not Ben wants them to. However, it will protect him on occasion and can recharge instantly if he is in danger.

The Omnitrix's creator, Azmuth, intended for it to provide the various species of the universe a better understanding of each other. Vilgax, however, only saw combat potential in such a device. Fearing it would fall into the wrong hands, Azmuth installed a self-destruct protocol that would destroy both the Omnitrix and whoever wears it. Unfortunately, due to his rather paranoid personality, the resulting explosion would create an energy ripple that would ultimately destroy the universe. Only Azmuth knows how to deactivate the self-destruct countdown. The device is described as a prototype by the show's creators, who also hint that Vilgax had something to do with its creation.
