Hashim Ali Choudhry (Art Director)
[edit]Hashim Ali Choudhry (born 1990) is a Pakistani art director and production designer known for his contributions to the fashion and film industries in Pakistan. He is the founder and creative director of Hashim Ali Design Studios,[1] based in Lahore.
Career
[edit]Since beginning his career in 2010, Hashim Ali has influenced Pakistan's fashion industry, particularly in the conception and execution of fashion shoots.[2][3] His portfolio includes collaborations with clients across fashion, film, and television. He provides production design, art direction, and styling services through his studio, striving to bring visual stories to life.[4]
Ali's work in film includes art direction for movies such as "Dekh Magar Pyaar Say" (2015)[5] , "Arth" (2017),[6] and "Zarrar" (2022)[7].[8]
In 2022, Ali served as the production designer and art director for the viral Coke Studio music video "Pasoori,"[9][10][11]
Beyond mainstream media, Hashim Ali has collaborated with local initiatives Lahore Ka Ravi, that highlights heritage and stories of Lahore.[12]
In 2024, Hashim Ali collaborated on a capsule fashion collection with "CrossStitch"[13][14]a mass market retail brand in Pakistan.[15]
Additionally, Ali is involved in theatre, working with the arts collective Colony in Lahore. His performance as the narrator in Laila Majnu was lauded by Dawn news's Hafsah Sarfraz "He (Hashim Ali) was absolutely brilliant; his delivery, the tone, the pauses, the hold over language and craft both — there are no words that could do justice to appreciating his craft both in set design (since he was the mastermind behind that) and the narration on stage."[16] Hashim Ali starred in the Coke Studio's "O Yaara", where he played a Sikh, Diljeet. The video has garnered over a Million Views on Youtube.[17]
Philosophy and Influence
[edit]Hashim Ali's art practice revolves around the idea of exploring the Pakistani and South Asian Identity through design.[18][11]
Awards and Recognition
[edit]In 2023, he was recognised as the Best Fashion Art Director at the Hum Awards.[19][20]
