Things I'm working on now
[edit]Jumping in to contribute to the collective knowledge of the world... I'm working with these articles.
- Joseph McCarthy - - minor editing. Researching source material to support McCarthy charges as write up in not an impartcial view. Tydings Committee US State Dept 1950 S231] FBI Declassified Records - National Archives FBI Declassified Records - FBI
- John Thomas Scharf - - wrote this article and would like to obtain the featured article status. Peer review and expert knowledge would be helpful in tweaking the article, as well as, addressing any style issues.
- Garrett County, Maryland - - Rewrote existing article to adhere to current WikiProject guidelines for U.S. counties. Reference sources cited and external links added. Categories added.) (see Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. counties for editing help for this article.)
- History of Garrett County, Maryland - - wrote this new article need help citing sources.
- History of Deep Creek Lake, Maryland - - wrote this new article need help citing sources.

Articles I updated and contributed to include:
Current dilemma
[edit]- Presently I am looking to connect with knowledgeable Garrett County area historians and individuals to scrutinize and polish the Wikipedia articles above and help with getting them to the highest possible Wikipedia standards.
- I waiting to for feedback on 2 ideas I proposed to Maryland educators. These are:
- Western Maryland American History Teachers Initiative (WMAHTI)
- I understand the Western Maryland American History Teachers Initiative (WMAHTI) is designed to improve student achievement in American History by improving teaching and to promote and elevate the importance of teaching and learning American history in the Western Maryland tri-county region. I firmly believe one powerful way to broadly share the fruits of this program would be adding the resulting knowledge to the Wikipedia encyclopedia.
- Maryland Department of Education service-learning
- If students in the Maryland public school system are required to do service-learning, I suggest adding county, towns and local governments, libraries and various non-profits to the list of Service Learning Organizations. The work could be project based research and creation of Wikipedia article(s) about any number of cities and towns, surrounding areas and historical points of interest.
- The International bestseller Wikinomics by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams makes the point that knowledge of Wiki usage will be a core skill requirement of employers in 3-years. I firmly believe mobilizing educators to incorporate the creation of high quality Wikipedia articles into course curriculum will provide students with experience and skills they will need in the new world economy. Most of all, its fun! The cool thing about Wikipedia is millions of people around the world use it as their first source for information on a vast area of subjects, like the History of Garrett County, Maryland, as one example.
- Anyone with an interest or passion on a subject can participate in contributing to Wikipedia. Every day, hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world collectively make tens of thousands of edits and create thousands of new Wikipedia articles. Interesting, I found some of the most knowledgeable sources are youngsters and hobbyists from all around the world.
- Q: Did you know there is a Wikipedia Portal Page for Maryland? A: It is Portal:Maryland and it is the gateway into Maryland related projects, topics and articles.
- Q:Did you know there is a Wikipedia WikiProject for Maryland? A: Is it Wikipedia:WikiProject Maryland and is a collaboration area and open group of editors.
- Q:How about a new Wikipedia:WikiProject for Western Maryland American History? (Or other educational initiatives?) I am also writing to ask your opinion on the use of Wikipedia to promote educational programs in the State of Maryland, specifically Western Maryland.
