User:Giftlite/List of Nobel laureates who endorse Barack Obama
List of Nobel laureates who endorse Barack Obama is a comprehensive list of Nobel laureates who officially endorsed Barack Obama for the 44th President of the United States. They are not only Nobel laureates but also American citizens (or residents). Before the 2008 presidential election, 85 Nobel laureates (including 82 laureates in the science disciplines for chemistry, medicine and physiology, physics and economics) publicly endorsed Obama through various news media. This was the largest number of Nobel laureates to ever endorse a political candidate for office. The previous record was in 2004, when 58 Nobel laureates endorsed John Kerry for the 43rd President of the United States.
76 U.S. Nobel Prize-winning scientists signed an open letter to the American people
[edit]Nobel laureates tend not to use their names for anything outside of science [...] I hope you take that as a sign of how seriously all of us think the errors of our present course are.
The open letter of endorsement
[edit]The letter opens:
“ | This year’s presidential election is among the most significant in our nation’s history. The country urgently needs a visionary leader who can ensure the future of our traditional strengths in science and technology and who can harness those strengths to address many of our greatest problems: energy, disease, climate change, security, and economic competitiveness.
We are convinced that Senator Barack Obama is such a leader, and we urge you to join us in supporting him. |
” |
And closes,
"Senator Obama understands that Presidential leadership and federal investments in science and technology are crucial elements in successful governance of the world’s leading country. We hope you will join us as we work together to ensure his election in November."
