Technical Innovation (Korean기술혁신; MRKisul hyŏksin) is a North Korean monthly academic journal on technology and innovation, founded in 1955 and published by the Central Information Agency for Science and Technology.[1][2] The journal is widely distributed within the North Korean industrial sector.[2]

Format

[edit]

Each issue of Technical Innovation begins with a quotation from the ruling Kim family, and frequently includes an unsigned editorial along with its table of contents.[1] The journal is sectioned into innovations on various fields, but the order of these sections are not fixed.[1] Unlike other North Korean academic journals, articles for the journal include both names for the authors and their institutional affiliations.[1][2]

Like other North Korean scientific journals, the journal does not mention any submission guidelines, an ethical code, a peer-review process (though it does indicate that there is an editorial committee), or a subscription model.[1]

Research

[edit]

Research published in Technical Innovation covers a wide range of topics, including agriculture, chemistry, information technology, machinery, and metallurgy.[1] The journal's publications come from a wide range of universities, institutions, and corporations throughout North Korea.[1] As of 2019, the most common institutions published in the journal are the Kim Chaek University of Technology, the University of Sciences, and the State Academy of Sciences.[3]

North Korean propaganda is a consistent feature of the journal.[1] The journal generally lacks any references.[1][2]
