The Gupo Station rail accident occurred on March 28, 1993 when a section of track subsided near Busan's Gupo Station, causing a Mugunghwa-ho train to overturn. The accident killed 78 people and injured 198 others, surpassing the death toll of the Iri station explosion and making it the deadliest train accident in the history of South Korea. The rail failure was the result of unauthorized tunneling near the track by Samsung Engineering & Construction and the company's license would be suspended for 6 months as a result.
