Hey!

[edit]

Long time, mate. How have you been?

I've come with some bad news. As you may have noticed Shahid has had to fight through quite a lot throughout his times. I'm in a bit of a struggle now was well.

A user has returned and is tampering with GA articles, and adapted a "ownage" feeling. Furthermore, he has used threats and is introducing his own rules such as making Indian film articles adapt to US money figures, those which are disencouraged. His behaviour cna be seen here [1].

I don't know the best way to go about it. Please give me some advice. Universal Hero (talk) 11:18, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi, this user was banned indefinitely for uploading copyvio images. Now he continues to do the same in a different ID. He is copy-pasting from websites entire review articles and claims cited. See User:Prin Anwar (talk) 11:23, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Thank you, Blof! =D I'll go about it in a mature way and if it goes over the top, I would do as you have told me! Thanx so much, Blof! Universal Hero (talk) 13:54, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Moreover, is this "tagging" he is doing, okay..? I'm sure the images are fine and the "sockpuppet tag" he has placed is inappropriate I feel. He is a persistent offender. Universal Hero (talk)
He took it too far, so I've submitted a reported here Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents‎#Long Term Abuse by the User:Anwar_saadat
Looks, like I'm in more trouble. User:Gamekeeper has nominated me for a different case. the long slog happens again :(. Universal Hero (talk) 19:21, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Great job, buddy!:-)-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 20:12, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Just saw the article. Great job! I am truly amazed at your talent for picking out sources and adding relevant pictures in such a short time.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 09:58, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Graph of Heavy metal genealogy

[edit]

Hi Blofeld, How are you doing these days? I created the a graph of Heavy metal genealogy, once I mentioned to you earlier. I created a thread regarding this. I'd like to hear what do you think about the graph. In the end, you are the professional rocker. Later!--Chanaka L (talk) 05:22, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Something's fishy...

[edit]

Much appreciated, thanks. In response, I bring you COMPLETE UNHOLY TERROR:

File:Tom Selleck is evil.jpg
OH GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE
As I recall, the image was prompted by a request on one of my forums; someone made a joke in a thread about creating photoshops depicting Tom Selleck's moustache attacking things. Why that was called for, I don't know. Anyhow...this seemed like a good idea at the time. And I have it on good authority from a friend that it made him laugh uncontrollably while he was over in Iraq. Made the rest of the guys in his unit a little scared, actually...they had no idea what was going on. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:58, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
I figured, alas. Still, let it hang around for a bit and provide some laughter. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:00, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah. I'm lucky, in that my beard is slow-growing. So I don't have to shave it that often.
Anyhow, huge workload today, so I'd better get crackin'. I'll try and do some more stuff tonight; we'll see what I can work on. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:19, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
I know - it's the same way I feel. Don't let it bother you; if that's how you feel comfortable working, go with it. To each his own, and all. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:26, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Infobox Germany

[edit]

I moved the sandbox to the template and it looks like it rendered OK on the couple of test pages that I looked at. Let me know if there's any problems/feedback on it, especially if User:Stifle has any comments. Skier Dude (talk) 04:39, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Am I saying that all the other infoboxes look awful?

[edit]

Actually yes, now that I've had a look, but since I deal here mainly in translating articles about German places, it was the German one that leapt out at me. Conformity is not necessarily a good thing, and I would hardly call it "being bold", or had you forgotten about that little precept? Kelisi (talk) 11:35, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

I have already stated my objections to the new template on the template talk page. As for the conformity thing, I meant that it isn't necessarily wise to do something simply because it is done by many others. A bolder move would have been to make the other templates look less dreadful.

Also, had you thought of changing the locator pin? It could be bullseyelike, for instance – a circle with a dot in the middle – or it could be crosshairs. Those forms wouldn't hide much of the map at all. I don't know whose idea the silly round-headed pin was, anyway. There's another thing that needn't be aped because so many people use it.Kelisi (talk) 11:58, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Re: Eastern European football players

[edit]

Yeah, I was on the fence about whether or not they were delete-able, which is why I just tagged them instead of outright deleting them. Thanks for your research and opinion... we'll see how that goes. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 12:38, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Achaia Klaus Museum

[edit]

I have nominated Achaia Klaus Museum, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Achaia Klaus Museum. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Oo7565 (talk) 17:38, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

FP idea

[edit]

Sorry, that one doesn't have a chance. It doesn't meet the resolution requirements, the angle/lighting is not ideal, and there's tons of perspective distortion (the buildings are leaning).

My trip was incredible. I went by myself, which always can either be great or horrible. (I travel a lot by myself - I'd previously been to Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, New Zealand, and Spain alone.) I ended up meeting tons of great people and seeing I think a lot of the real Panama. I spent one afternoon with a Panamanian family in the town of La Pintada, where a woman I think felt sorry that I was all by myself, so she showed me around the town's river and took me to see where her brother raises chickens, then to her house for lunch (soup), then around town while we waited for her nephew to get off work so he could take me to the petroglyphs, which were pretty awesome. Another two nights I ended up staying with a family of fishermen in their shanty houses along the beach in Santa Clara (no article yet...), playing bingo with them at night and hanging out with the family and their friends on the beach (and in a kiddie swimming pool!) during the day. Their little daughter loved me, and I think a lot of people were puzzled by us (the white tourist and tiny Panamanian black girl) wandering around on the beach together. Another day I went to a baseball game in Panama City, which was a lot like American baseball games but with more maracas and dancing. A woman sitting near me gave me a flag to wave, which made the game even better. One day I went hiking and saw 50 or 60 monkeys plus some coatis, butterflies, crazy big ants, lizards, frogs, etc. I stayed on an island in Kuna Yala for a few days and got to go to a Kuna puberty ceremony, which is a ginormous party for the whole village. I took seco shots out of half coconut shells offered to me ("gobe!" - "drink!" in Kuna) by elderly Kuna women who were so drunk they were falling over. I went to Nata to see one of the oldest churches in the Western hemisphere. I also went to a provincial fair (a lot like American agricultural fairs) in Penonomé. Another day in Panama City I went out to a birthday party of a Panamanian friend of a friend of a friend, then out to an afterparty in the driveway of a random neighborhood until 5:30 in the morning. Happily my Spanish worked well. When I was hanging out with upper-middle-class type people in Panama City they generally spoke English, but poor people in the countryside didn't at all. The last three days I was there I spoke exclusively Spanish! Sadly my camera was either lost or stolen so I have no photos to upload! It's really too bad too because I think I went a lot of places that don't have any pictures.

But in any event despite the camera mishap (which really is only sad because of the pictures, because some of the time the camera refuses to turn on - time to get a new one), the trip was amazing. I love traveling! Now I need to pick out where I'd like to go next! I have a month or so off this summer between my bar exam and starting work. Maybe a week somewhere with my boyfriend, then a few weeks or a month somewhere hard to get to in a normal vacation, maybe Africa or China. So many places still to go! Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:39, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah the coverage is surprisingly quite awful. Even some of the most popular tourist places (like El Valle de Antón) had no articles. So far I've written El Valle, La Pintada, Panama, Penonomé, Coclé (rewritten), and maybe a couple more. I have a very good guidebook so maybe I'll plug away at writing these for a while. Do you know of any good sources for census data etc for Panama? Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:08, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:RichardMaibaum.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:RichardMaibaum.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:11, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

I've nominated it. But as I do not know much about the subject, I leave it to you to clarify in case they have any questions. Since this article is currently on an AFD, I do expect a few from the reviewers. I leave it to you to handle it appropriately.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 07:00, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey hey..

[edit]

How are you??? I'm fine, a bit busy. Came to Wikipedia today and was surprised to find out that the awards section was removed completely from template:infobox actor according to some discussion on WT:ACTOR (actors and filmmakers). I personally think it's a great section, because it gives a quick glance at all the awards an actor has won. But it's not the matter. The matter is that I doubt the consensus. Only 8 editors supported the removal within 7 days, when nobody else knew of the discussion. I personally didn't, and I'm sure that you, who created this wikiproject, didn't know that either. ShahidTalk2me 16:33, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

7 days of minor discussion for something that's been here for some two-three years is nothing! I posted a message to the admin who deleted it and on the WT:ACTOR page as well. Not going to sit quiet untill this is done in fairly. ShahidTalk2me 16:40, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Exactly. That's what I want to say, but first I want the discussion itself to be reopned. Wildhartlivie already responded to my message, as you can see. And I've replied now again. ShahidTalk2me 16:50, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey Blof if you think the awards should remain why wouldn't you discuss their necessity instead of asking for a bot which would terminate all the options for this section to be re-added? Or do you no longer feel they should have remained? That's another story, and that's your right. ShahidTalk2me 19:09, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
That's why I think if you have an opinion you shouldn't concede but keep discussing and fighting them. ShahidTalk2me 19:26, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
This one is still has chances, if an admin User:Journalist thinks it was just an oversight on the efitor's part to propose that and it should be added back. Don't underrate yourself, and don't think your opinion does not count. But it's your decision what you wanna do. It's up to you friend! ShahidTalk2me 19:34, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Well the voting is closed but the arbitrary section is active. It's there where you have to say if you think they should remain or not and why. ShahidTalk2me 19:41, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh my... 235,788 edits... I've got a sudden headache.:) ShahidTalk2me 20:04, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

An Invite to join the International Roads WikiProject

[edit]
- - - - - - - - - - - - WikiProject Highways - - - - - - - - - - - -
Hi, Dr. Blofeld, you are graciously extended an invitation to join the International Highways WikiProject! The Highways WikiProject is an evolving and expanding WikiProject. We are a group of editors who are dedicated to creating, revising, and expanding articles, lists, categories, road portal and Wikiprojects, to do with anything related to International Roads. This includes supporting existing regional road WikiProjects and fostering the development of new WikiProjects.
|As you have shown an interest in National Highway 228 (India) we thought you might like to take an interest in this growing WikiProject.
We look forward to welcoming you to the project! SriMesh | talk 03:22, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
And as well there is a new WP Indian Roads you also may be interested in, but I am not sure they have a roads banner of their own, or a task force added to the main India talk page banner.SriMesh | talk 03:22, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

B class criteria

[edit]

To improve this article National Highway 228 (India), here are some guidelines for the B class criteria for road articles. Could you add talk page banners if possible to the several articles you have created? (Which is simply awesome) SriMesh | talk 03:22, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Tajikistan jamoats

[edit]

Could you please add the source(s) for the population numbers in Tajikistan jamoats? Thanks. --Zlerman (talk) 16:49, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Great! I did not know about the new article Jamoats of Tajikistan, and I was looking at the jamoat tables in the individual district articles, which did not show the source (until recently). Thanks for taking care of this. --Zlerman (talk) 16:59, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Please see Ghafurov District for my suggestion for a change in the layout of headings in the jamoat tables. --Zlerman (talk) 17:08, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Protected areas

[edit]

Good question. There is a specific problem with that one, though, and that's the number of "related" projects. We've got Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas, Wikipedia:WikiProject King George's Fields, Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas of India, and Wikipedia:WikiProject World Heritage Sites, all of which seem to have at least some overlap. Would we want there to be a single banner which could assess for all of them? John Carter (talk) 13:41, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to have real trouble creating a banner with both existing images and assessments for all the child projects. I think we'd probably have to contact the project itself and ask them which image they would like to retain before really changing the extant banner. John Carter (talk) 13:59, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Film templates

Yeah, the "film editors" seem a bit keen on getting rid of seemingly useful templates. I've long decided that trying to argue with projects is too much of banging your head against a wall, though.  :/ Grutness...wha? 09:35, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Ansel Adams.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Ansel Adams.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 14:09, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Eggsalad! Now finally I can stop expanding articles and spend all my time on drama! Seriously though, a week of RfA and connection problems has cost me three DYKs at least. I've got two unfinished district to complete and a couple more that were more rushed than I would have liked. Thanks for your vote! of confidence. Now, I really need to get back to some articles (after I finish this limited edition thankspam run!). Ping me if you need anything (a dreadful naughty subpage of offensive photos deleted for example :) Cheers, Paxse (talk) 14:15, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Stamp list of India - the plan

[edit]

Hi there,

I intend to make a wikipage dealing with the stamps of India. It would part article and part list of lists. The generic 'Postage stamps and postal history of India' doesn't do much for the stamps in themselves. The subject 'Postal history of India' deserves an article for itself.

I feel that this could be an article on stamps of India with a good beginning of prose followed by a list of links, a list of lists. Each link would lead to a list page with a title such as 'List of stamps of the Dominion of India (1947-50)', 'List of stamps of India (1950-60)' and so on for each decade or period of history. Ditto for the EIC & British Raj period.

This would chronicle the postal issues in greater detail than the present single article. There are already lists of stamps on themes - for example List of stamps of __ country showing people.

This series of article would be of importance to school-children of India who do not have access to philatelic knowledge. Even getting a list of stamps of India is very difficult. We do not have a public library system in India so Wikipedia is more important to us than to the average westerner.

AshLin (talk) 15:18, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

References? Of course! Id like anyone to try that without refs! I have a couple of Indian Postal Deptt lists and a friend has the relevant Indian Stanley Gibbons of 2008.AshLin (talk) 15:27, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
The important issues do need articles of their own. However, the subject needs to be written up around the commoner stamps which the average schoolkid will put his hands on. The image copyright of Indian stamps create image problems so that I'll probably have to crop images, deface the currency notation and apply fair-use. The stamps issued before March 1949 are no longer under copyright but that means only 8 stamps, ouch! Thanks for the thumbs up! AshLin (talk) 15:38, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Svatopluk Innemann

[edit]

I've added image... To get back to our conversation - it's not easy to judge those people, the time was terrible, they were scared or whatever - and from our perspective, in our "comfortable" world sixty years ago, it's always easy to judge. Similar cases as young Heinrich Harrer were Günther Grass, Lída Baarová, or Milan Kundera most recently.. Have a nice day Dr. Blofeld, and if you have any other questions related to Czech topics, please feel free to let me know. I'll try to help. --Vejvančický (talk) 07:02, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Nurobod district, Tajikistan

[edit]

I don't seem to be able to move "Nurobod district, Tajikistan" (lower case d) to "Nurobod District, Tajikistan" (capital D), in line with your global changes of Tajikistan districts. Can you arrange for this to be done, please? Thank you. --Zlerman (talk) 09:18, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I was just wondering why you removed your comments from the discussion on the page and what that might mean in terms of the discussion that had occurred. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 17:48, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry you feel that way. I don't know what the dynamics are on other pages or the issues that go on elsewhere. I realize your comments were a little more global than just on WT:ACTOR, and I had the impression some of that was occurring with the relevant discussion on this project. Despite protests to the contrary, when I made the initial proposal, it was absolutely because I had issue with the Razzie awards and how the "other awards" section was growing by leaps and bounds across many articles as people were adding each and every minor award that an actor ever received. It was becoming a problem. I didn't propose removing the awards altogether, but when the suggestion was made, I think it did have to be considered. It's like I said, I can't go out and drag anyone connected with the project in and make them leave an opinion. I asked a couple editors who used to be a lot more active to please come and read the proposals and leave an opinion of some kind and that was ignored. It seems as if these sorts of discussions only draw those that have a strong opinion and sometimes, only seeing the result after the fact is what draws reaction. Unfortunately, the discussion after that sidetracked and deteriorated into a spurt of what I see as a pick on Wildhartlivie for doing anything spree. It was not helped by Shshshsh's refusal to discuss anything specific unless it was first changed back and only saying it wasn't done properly. If you hadn't noticed, the last comment I left was that perhaps the major awards being returned might be how it ended up. I understand your frustration on a wide basis, but the actor infobox had not been changed in a very long time, and the effort is trying to be made in the best interest of the project. Removing your comments confused me and seemed as if you were just saying you didn't care. I plan on bringing up what I've just said this weekend to discuss it again. Wildhartlivie (talk) 13:27, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey you e-mailed me, I didn't notice the message. Of course I do. If we're gonna all keep our opinions and express them and not sit crossing our hands, of couse it will. You, Orane, me, one more editor all think it should remain, only without these cheap Razzie awards, and the other awards field. Even Wildhartlivie told she preferred this way. If we can get that, why not? Its removal was a hasty decision as I said, which should be changed. But we have to discuss. None of the editors seems to be ignorant, and none has said the awards should not return. ShahidTalk2me 17:13, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Another reason for this being readded. If the awards are added, no problem will be with that. Of course, the intention is to have it without other awards and Razzies, but there's a bot. So no problem should be whatsoever. Again, we must fight to have it back. It was a brilliant way for all readers to see what awards an actor has won without having to go through the entire article or roll it to the bottom, where it's messy, unclear. Here we see the awards categorised per functions, and the films for which they won the award. It's a great section in the infobox, because it's an actor infobox, and awards are a good way to acknoeledge actors for their work. And now take the Bette Davis article. It's not even mentioned that she won two Oscars in the lead. The infobox was a perfect way to show that without going to mention it in a POV manner in the lead. I truly believe in this section. If you do, you should say that. ShahidTalk2me 17:24, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
My God Cate Blanchett is just hilarious!!! ShahidTalk2me 12:17, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
What??? Well doesn't matter I can't praise her wnough for her hilarious portrayal of Katherine Hepburn, although I saw the film several time already. Well I know you don't like her, but it doesn't matter. ShahidTalk2me 12:29, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Stupidity at RFA

[edit]

Hi, Dr. Blofeld! The supports at Law's RFA may indeed be presented stupidly, but it's probably not a good idea to call it out as such. In the interest of avoiding animosity from the support crowd, you might consider striking "stupidity" and following it with the word "fun". Just an idle thought. -kotra (talk) 18:12, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Pretty geeky sense of humor then it has to be said. Dr. Blofeld White cat 20:11, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. -kotra (talk) 21:44, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

I was kidding anyway for the record, I could see people were haiving "fun", just somebody needed to say something, Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:48, 9 April 2009 (UTC)

I commend you, then! You were right to treat RFA seriously; it's not April 1 anymore. -kotra (talk) 07:04, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the appreciation of the Norwegian articles. I would go as far as to say that before 2006-2007, Norway was, like Mali, Burma and the lot, a victim of systemic bias, at least in part. Needless to say you too do a sizeable work in this field! Punkmorten (talk) 10:00, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit]
The 25 DYK Medal
For your meritorious service to WP:DYK on various topics such as geography, history, art and culture and many others, Dr. Blofeld, you're hereby awarded with the 25 DYK Medal. Congratulations, and keep up your contributions to DYK! Caspian blue 21:19, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Wow only 25? I thought I had had more than that! Punkmorten's just passed 200. I guess I concentrate on creating too many stubs rather than filling them all out!! Thanks! Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:23, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

You've acquired 30 DYKs so far. Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of DYKs Congratulations! --Caspian blue 21:25, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Ah that seems more like it. Perhaps I ought to concentrate on creating more DYKs. Just so much work needs doing with minor edits to existing stubs or creating new articles on municipalities etc! Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:27, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

RFA thanks

[edit]
My RFA passed today at 61/5/4. Thanks for participating in my RFA. I appreciate all the comments I received and will endeavor to justify the trust the WP community has placed in me.

Blofeld, you are an A++ editor, and more experienced than me. Hopefully in a few months, I'll have passed the point where you would've voted support. If you've any suggestions on how I can improve myself as an editor, I'd be happy to hear them. Have a nice day. :-) AdjustShift (talk) 21:42, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Response

[edit]

I'm not sure I recall having said "Lots of people start projects and then leave them to others to deal with" but there certainly are some that do. It's true of WP:CRIME and WP:SERKILL. I made a comment about your involvement with the day to day things that come up with the project because it's true - you posted a question in December, the time before that was in March 2008 and the time before that was in June 2007. It's not a judgment or casting anyone in a bad light, it's simply a fact. It was said mostly in response to this, which seemed to me to lend more weight to your opinion than anyone else's and the constant barrage of how improper the discussion and result was; and also this, which implied that anyone who raises issues with how something is working apparently isn't much interested in developing content. Regardless of protests to the contrary afterwards, there were comments posted on WT:ACTOR that continued to assert I had done something wrong and it was unfairly done. It's quite impossible to garner a huge consensus when people don't pay attention to what is going on - or why. But it apparently is okay for one person to filibuster until something is reopened and to canvass for support. That wasn't a comment about you, by the way. Wildhartlivie (talk) 02:46, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Um, do you see a massive history of questions on the talk page? No the page has rarely been used for discussions. Most discussions surrounding film and actors take place at WP:Films. A lot people spend most of their time sitting around discussing issues and it is indeed true a lot of them are on seemingly trivial issues like infoboxes and templates.Thats not to say that everybody who contributes to the discussion isn't a good article editor but I see a lot of conversations which are seemingly not going to get us anywhere so I tend to be more involved in the actual articles themselves rather than debating them. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:50, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi

[edit]

Good to see the districts, though I don't think I'll be able to help much. My book doesn't really have anything on districts as such, just provinces and cities. In sort-of-bad and sort-of-good news, the firm that I'll be working for after graduation just pushed back my start date several months, until January 2010. I get a stipend of $25,000 that will cover living expenses and loan payments (a lot of loan payments) until then. I'm thinking I may want to travel for a few months somewhere cheap. I'm totally flexible about where, I just need ideas! You obviously like geography (though I'm not sure if you've traveled much.) Places I've already gone include Panama, Thailand, Cambodia, Panama, and Japan (and various other places too expensive for my budget this go-round), so those are out. Any thoughts?? Calliopejen1 (talk) 18:57, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Dude, did you see the SPA's latest [2]? Someone in the UK & someone in the US (w/roots in the UK, by the way) are an international cabal to keep his OR out of wikipedia. Skier Dude (talk) 02:44, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
It's just sad that these SPA's come in, try to push their POV, waste tons of time & bandwith, and then - thankfully- disappear. Sigh. Now back to more productive things.

Proposed deletion of Terje Martinsen

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Terje Martinsen, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Saskatchewan locator map

[edit]

It might be helpful if the inset map showing Saskatchewan's location used a darker grey to better see the other provinces and their boundaries. (See article, for example, on Rouleau, SK. As it stands, the USA is more darkly colored, Canada rather pale, leading the eye to the US portion of the map. Actually, I'm not sure why the US is on the map, but its color would be better used to the north. Your ideas? I'm not sure how much you modified the original author's work, so perhaps my comments are best sent there. Let me know, and thanks. Yoho2001 (talk) 11:01, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

I notice that this category you created is unpopulated (empty). In other words, no Wikipedia pages belong to it. If it remains unpopulated for four days, it may be deleted without discussion, in accordance with Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#C1. I'm notifying you in case you wish to (re-)populate it by adding [[Category:Communes of Senegal]] to pages that belong in it.

I tagged the category. This will not, in itself, cause the category to be deleted. It serves to document (in the page history) that the category was empty at the time of tagging and also to alert other watchers that the category is in jeopardy. You are welcome to remove the tag if you wish. However, doing so will not prevent deletion of the category if it remains empty.

If you created the category in error, or it is no longer needed, you can speed up the deletion process by tagging it with {{db-author}}.

I am a human being, not a bot, so you can contact me if you have questions about this. Best regards, --Stepheng3 (talk) 02:57, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, looks like they'll be kept. Which I'm happy about, because I use them an awful lot. Anyhow, I'm doing pretty well, thanks. Took a day off to see to some things at the DMV and elsewhere. And to recover - it's been busy, busy, busy season at work. I honestly don't know, some days, whether I'm coming or going. Anyhow, I'm going to try and stub a few more Walloon writers, or Swiss actors, or something, tonight, and see what comes of it. OK, I'll do the rest of those talk pages, then. After that, we'll see what I can get around to tonight.
Speaking of which...I started Niterói circus fire today. Amazing...it's one of the worst disasters in Latin American history - 323 dead - and there wasn't even an article about it on here. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:58, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Done. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 22:59, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
I know. Although I should say, in fairness, that there's not a lot of information about the disaster online in English; most of what I could find was in Portuguese. Which I don't speak, so... --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:29, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Hadn't even considered it, believe it or not. I'd rather leave that sort of thing to the native and near-native speakers. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:59, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Sure - I should be able to do that, no problem. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 19:05, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

OK - I'll add it to the pile of things to do tonight. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:05, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Maybe a little Wikibreak is in order, until they heal, then? Believe it or not, I think I managed to get a callus from choral singing; I've got a little one on one finger of my right hand, and I think it came from holding my folder in the wrong position for too long. My intention was to just put those with more than 200 inhabitants there, the localities. But consistent categories all over Wikipedia is a really good thing so I guess we can change it. --Skizzik talk 18:54, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

I am going to have eye surgery early in the morning for a condition they are trying to correct and it may be a few days before I can do anything about an organized effort. I know that some others have already started dealing with it during the course of their regular editing and it seems to me that until I get back and do anything on an organized level. Getting the infobox listings under some kind of control was what was important to me, defending myself against allegations of impropriety in doing so became another issue. If you know of a bot owner who would do this, please please leave Rossrs a note and I'll see if he can't organize something while I'm away. Thanks. Wildhartlivie (talk) 00:13, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit]

Out of curiosities sake, what made you change the color on Template:Infobox Mine? Didn't you like silver? EA210269 (talk) 09:52, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Personally, I liked silver, it seemed a good choice after Gold for the Template:Infobox Gold Mine, silver beeing sort of the next precious medal down the line. In any case, the new color is acceptable, too. If we would like to have a discussion on the color, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mining is properly the better place, nobody watches the talk page of an infobox, other then myself! And the infobox was quite badly needed and has been accepted quite well, I think. Thanks for the praise! EA210269 (talk) 10:00, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Definitely. I'll work on expanding the embassy's article and aiming for DYK as well. It would be kind of neat/funny to have both articles on the Main Page at the same time. Cheers. APK is ready for the tourists to leave 14:45, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes the great thing about starting articles as in turn it spawns off new ones in a chain. I've just stubbed National Disaster Recovery Fund, a fund established by the Jamaican government following Hurrican Gustav which all started from your main embassy article. It is amazing what actally exists out there on the web in national newspapers etc. Happy editing Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:51, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Cities, towns and villages in Turkey

[edit]

Hi! I see your proposal is to generalize that category to cover a wide range of settlements, at least within a province. It seems to be not bad. How about a type of "Category:Settlements in ... Province". See "settlement" for a more general description. BTW, thanks for asking my opinion. Cheers. CeeGee (talk) 19:11, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey

[edit]

Happy? Not exactly, but the RfC was certainly not the right way to go. There were several reasons I withdrew the RfC fot. First, an RfC is a complicated way to handle this. I clearly stated, "I've closed the RfC for now. You can delete the entire section if you like if nobody opposes. I have to think about that. Both Rossrs and you have presented valid arguments on my talk page which I have to think about. I'll take my time. Maybe I'll eventually make a new voting as suggested by User:CactusWriter. As of now, it's closed. I'll take my time." That's why I asked for your opinion before.

But another reason was when I saw what Wildhartlivie said to someone, "Honestly, I'm thinking of quitting WP:ACTOR altogether. This whole thing has disheartened me completely." - it upsetted me a lot because after all we editors have felt so at some point, and I can't see someone who is such a good editor getting disheartened.

Thirdly is the lack of editorial support. You gave the case up and even encouraged editors to clean articles up, Orane is very busy, and as you see me too. I have no time to engage in long discussions as I usually do. That's why I prefer waiting. Rossrs's message to me was a kind of a light up. She showed a side I didn't think about. So as of now, I'm thinking and waiting for the right time to come. ShahidTalk2me 20:09, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes but I don't want to bother to download it LOL. The problem about awards is that I realised that my opinion alone does not matter, and I'm tired to fight good editors for something that many would agree (I'm sure many editors would want the awards come back) but don't bother to even comment. And I quite agree with what Ross has said. I'm still thinking LOL... ShahidTalk2me 20:30, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Blof hey! What's up with the Rekha message? There's some ugly caricature of hers out there instead of the beautiful image you uploaded. ShahidTalk2me 09:13, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

No, I'm not going to uni. If I were, I most certainly would not be here. I've come back to the place where I was for two years. I have to wait a bit more. I'm just fed up with everything, but let's not talk about it. ShahidTalk2me 13:32, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Never mind, thanks for asking. How are you? Have you created any articles recently? ShahidTalk2me 13:45, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
It's so amazing Blof. Have you not found yet a tool identifying all the articles you create? ShahidTalk2me 13:54, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh you have made too many edits... Thanks for the notice. Feel free to modify my userpage when you wish. You can also copyedit it so that we can take it to FUP (Featured User Page).
I think you were right, that the Rekha caricature really resembled Reese Witherspoon. What do you think about Reese though? Do you find her beautiful? And what about her acting? ShahidTalk2me 20:39, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Blof I gotta go but please keep an eye on 99.238.33.59 (talk · contribs), who adds entire sections to films which are supposedly remakes. He was first adding them without sources, and now he adds them again and most of the sources are unreliable. ShahidTalk2me 07:43, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Mountain cats

[edit]

Dear Doctor, I know about your affection for both mountains and cats. Hope Mr. Bigglesworth is doing fine (he must be getting old). I've not been adding Cat:Mountains of Austria and Cat:Mountains of Italy since I already add the categories Mountains of Tyrol and Mountains of South Tyrol, which are subcategories of the first two. I'm sure some group came up with guidelines for it, but reading discussions about rules get me depressed so I don't know what they are. Still, from my experience, higher level categories are generally left out when more detailed categories are available. Cheers, Afasmit (talk) 21:40, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry - been out most of the evening. (Not to go fishing, but it's my birthday. :-) ) Anyhow, I hadn't considered the point you mention before, but I see what you're talking about. Not at all - I'm officially 25 now. As for Myers and the ladies...well, the article says he's been divorced from his only wife. I'll just leave it at that.

Pushpin maps in Sweden

[edit]

It looks good! Just drop me a note when the others are created and I will start including them. One thought, do you think the country or county/municipality map should be on top? BTW I fixed the problem with the province/county/municipality order. --Skizzik talk 07:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Template:Location map Sweden Halland is still missing. I will take a look at how to include them without to much trouble. --Skizzik talk 12:32, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

It is because I have already the code for the articles done, except the coordinates and a few more things. Every additionally thing I have to add manually to it before create the article will, hmm, almost double the time it takes I think. Maybe we can use a bot afterwards for this one instead? --Skizzik talk 12:43, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

How can I quote references, other than the AA 2009 Road Atlas Ireland for the article A42 road (Ireland). Also, seeing as there is only one route of that name on the island of Ireland, which did you feel it neccessary to rename the article? (Especially bearing in mind Northern Ireland appeared in the first line of the article.) Many thanks. D.de.loinsigh (talk) 17:54, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

In short, no. (I live in Northern Ireland, so I'm fully aware of its current constitutional position within the United Kingdom for Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and its geographical positioning on an island called Ireland.) You're definision of "Ireland" and what it constitutes to be "Irish" is somewhat off, to put it bluntly. Ireland is an island. It is historically referred to as a “nation”, and a “country” (eg. most Irish history books do) - something similar to the way Scotland is, or the Basque Country is, even though neither of them are legal sovereign states, they are described, for historical reasons as “countries”. Ireland promotes itself as an island internationally in terms of tourism, and represents itself in most sports as one (eg. rugby, cricket, hockey). Most sporting, cultural, and religious organisations in Ireland organise throughout the entirety of the island. Therefore the ISLAND is IRELAND – divided since 1920 (gratis a The Government of Ireland Act) between Northern Ireland (still part of the UK – but nonetheless still physically part of the island that is called Ireland) and Southern Ireland, which has changed its name several times since its own inception; The Irish Freestate, Éire, and the Republic of Ireland. To put all the above concisely ROI+NI=IRL and NI+GB=UK. Whilst yes, the government which holds jurisdiction over most of this island refers to itself (as of the 1937 constitution) as “Éire / Ireland”, that is also coming from the same constitution which declared “the national territory consists of the island of Ireland, its offshore islands and territorial waters”. In any case, Belfast is, and has been in Ireland for thousands of years, so the ascertion of the southern government that they are the “real” Irish is pointlessly self-obsessed, and blatantly false. I am Irish, I live in Ireland. I am also British, and I live in the British Isles. They are not mutually exclusive. I do not take kindly to the Southern political establishmenttrying to say that I am not (which they aren’t doing, but if they were I would) Imagine for one moment if you will a situation whereby in 2015 certain extremist Welsh nationalists sought outright independence from the UK. And they achieved that. Apart from the northeast of Wales. Wales is thus partitoned between Southern Wales, and independent sovereign state administered from Cardiff, and Northern Wales, which remains part of the United Kingdom and administered with a new regional form of government from Wrexham. Then, in 2030, the Cardiff government draws up a new constitution and it is accepted by its people, and this new constitution declares, amongst other things, that the new name of the state is “Cymru / Wales”. Let’s suggest that 90, or even 100, or 150 years pass, and Wales is still divided. Does that mean that Rhyll would no longer be Welsh? Woud people in Whexham cease to have the right to describe themselves as being Welsh? Would any form of expression of Welshness, or a Wlesh identity be prohibited? Would the A55 not be in Wales anymore? No. It would merely demonstrate the arrogance of the Southern Welsh state/the Republiuc of Wales/the Welsh Freestate. Gerry Adams (seeing as you have taken him as an example) is a Belfast politician, a County Antrim politician, an Ulster politician, a Northern Irish politician, an Irish politician, a British politician, and a European politician. As is every other politician in Northern Ireland, and indeed the same set of identities/classifications can go any other individual from Northern Ireland. Citezenship, as I think as someone residing in Wales you may agree, is another kettle of fish. (One cannot theoretically have a Welsh nationality in legal terms, which is of course total and utter nonsense). I cannot understand how one could genuinely misunderstand this. The idea that northern Ireland is NOT a part of Ireland, is very much like saying that West Germany was not German, or that East Timor is not on the island of Timor. Or indeed that South Korea is not Korean. It’s nonsensicle, illogical, and intellectually unfounded. Therefore, it is NOT incorrect to say that “There is one road in Ireland called the A7, running from Carryduff to Downpatrick”, and therefore there is no NECCESSITY to place the adjective “northern” in the title of the article – it is merely a preference. I have thus far chose to omit as it is quicker to type, and does not take away from the accuracy/factuality of the article. I’d prefer to keep my political opinions regarding the future of Northern Ireland to myself. Please browse the maps section of your nearest bookshop and pick up any map/atlas of Ireland – i guartentee you Belfast will definitely be on/in there – beyond any shaddow of a doubt! Hoping this finds you well. D.de.loinsigh (talk) 10:56, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Um I didn't say Northern Ireland was not a part of "Ireland" as the island. What I'm saying is that however much they may be as one, politically they are not recognised as such. When it comes to geographical locations we attatch the political names to them all over the world. If for some reason Northern Wales became independent then yes you would call it Northern Wales. Its the same with South Ossetia now having categories and labels to indicate that this is now not Georgia, politically anyway. Its the same with West and East Germany. Yes both were part of Germany as such but between 1945 and 1989 on wikipedia is it asserted that it was West germany and East Germany. Thats why we have tons of categories on atheltes and sports people etc during this period which have the specific political categories evwne though they arre all "German". Are you disputing the fact that The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are politically not one internationally recognised political body? Its the same with Hispaniola. Shall we name all the categories as "Hispaniolan" and start calling it Hispaniola, e.g Port au Prince is a city on Hispaniola? to unite the two countries Haiti and DOminican Republic on this island? I'm not disputing that Northern Ireland people are "Irish" people in culture and geographically and I have always believed the whole island should be as one but we have to recognise what these places are under political territory as this is the formal way to do it. FOr instance we don't say Snow Patrol is from "Ireland" we say they are from "Northern Ireland". James Nesbitt is categorised as a "Northern Irish" actor rather than an "Irish actor". Its because this is politically correct. Wikipedia is not the way to promote Northern Ireland part of the Republic of Ireland. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:09, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Just stopping by to say hi, how are you doing? Have you enjoyed Daniel Craig as Bond?? I have completed acquiring 23 sources with which to write Frasier's critical reception section. Took some time, and will take a little time to distil - I hope it will be worth the wait! Fritzpoll (talk) 15:00, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello! Have a nice break? Glad to hear you are making progress with Frasier! Nope I don't think much of Craig as Bond, I mean he has Fleming's character as a cold hard bastard nailed and everything he just doesn't have the suaveness and elegance of Bond as we know him. Too ugly, short, like a boxer and humourless. The best Bond (e.g Sean Connery) was brutal and forceful but he had a good balance with other qualities like humor and good looks. Part of the thing about playing Bond is that they have to have the overblown ego and mess about flirting with women, ordering unusual drinks, making cheesy quips and having that air of superiority whenever they walk into a room. Craig seems to think he is Bourne and plays the character as just a hard thug with no passion. Casino Royale was good but Quantum of Solace was a pathetic excuse for a Bond film it really was. Gone is the suave sophisticated British icon, in with the Bourne clone. Craig and any one of the zillion action scenes was probably the best part of that film actually, the plot and the villain was atrocious even though the locations mostly good. Craig is a great actor I just don't like him as Bond. The best Bond film since 1985 is The Living Daylights, followed by Goldeneye. A good Bond film is supposed to have "the ingredients" but Craig's films are purely based around just action and locations rather than the "balance".This review in the Sunday Times sums up my own view on the film perfectly:"Marc Forster has brought the brand’s successful relaunch crashing back to earth — with a yawn"; the screenplay "is at times incomprehensible" and the casting "is a mess." The review concludes that "Bond has been stripped of his iconic status. He no longer represents anything particularly British, or even modern. In place of glamour, we get a spurious grit; instead of style, we get product placement; in place of fantasy, we get a redundant and silly realism."

Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:13, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

I can't help but agree with Maddox's impression of Quantum of Solace - it was based on a true story, but made less interesting! I enjoyed Casino Royale, but that may have been because it took Bond back towards the main character and was a severe (and welcome) deviation from Brosnan's efforts. Overall, I'm going to give him one more shot before making a judgement! Break was pretty good - but now back at the PhD trying to create robotic minions for a certain evil genius with a white cat.... Fritzpoll (talk) 15:41, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes I thought Casino Royale was good too, better than most of Brosnan's films from 1997-2002. That seemed to have more of a balance and a great plot. In Quantum it was all about action and grit and a bad idea making continuous references to the previous film. These films are supposed to be timeless and fantasy not realism. If you compare Dominic Greene, a little weasel to my sinister character with overly elaborate quarters he wouldn't last two seconds standing outside on the magma hole waiting to enter the volcano LOL. He'd be blown away by rocket guns or be dragged into a magma pool. If he at least got as far as the volcano elevator naturally within moment he would be down the shoot into the piranha tank and devoured. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:47, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, where was the pointlessly slow platform lowering them into the shark tank???? :) Fritzpoll (talk) 15:51, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Without a doubt Greene was the worst Bond villain of all time by a long shot. Followed by Gustav Graves and Renard but even they were far better. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:54, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for volunteering...

DYK nomination of Deforestation in Costa Rica

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Deforestation in Costa Rica at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! CanadianNine 23:58, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry, Dr. Blofeld, it seems that CanadianNine was in a muddle and thought that the article had to be 1,500 words or more to qualify for DYK. It only needs 1,500 characters of readable prose, so it's fine. Regards, BencherliteTalk 00:06, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of List of Indonesian films

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of Indonesian films, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

This list is serving the never touched or improved red link list fetish of Indonesian project - large amounts of red links never linked, and whole decades untouched - the project and the list would be better served by smaller lists in specific decades - and where there are no 'live' articles for a decade - the sub list remains unstarted until such time as a valid live article starts - it is too large long and untouched to remain a valid list

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. SatuSuro 01:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I must say it was a grweat idea at the time - but the Indonesian project is cursed by red link list creators - and this one remains a monolith of little help to anyone as the decades remain empty or the red links stare out over time - I would suggest a much shorter pruned variety cut up into decades where valid real live articles can be linked. As it is, it is going take this lifetime and next to fix the bloody lists of places you did :) - trust all the hair is well SatuSuro 01:26, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Something gives me the impression you regard me as some sort of nuisance or hinderance rather than a help. I'm very sorry you have a cyncial outlook towards Indonesia developing on wikipedia and red links. I'm equally sorry that nobody as yet has got around to expanding and filling out this list accordingly. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:23, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Nah wrong impressions mate (my apologies) - (fair crack of the whip - blimey man - you are an asset for WikiPedia that even your front user/talk page volcano couldnt dwarf) - I just think the problem with the big list as it is is that it will stare out at us for many moons - and probably better to downsize it rarther than leave as is - never apologise to a whining west australian - we have enough chips on our blocks (Perth, WA as the most isolated city/regional capital in the world ect etc) than you can imagine - the thing with the Indonesian project - is a few remaining eds ( we are a dying close to extinction breed i assure you) in the project are trying to wind back enthusiastic red links lists that sit there too long - if we could break up the list into a few eras/decades I'd withdraw the nom at the brush of my bald head :) SatuSuro 13:44, 22 April 2009 (UTC) OK I'll see if I can clean it up a little later, I'm a bit busy with Sri Lankan forests and tea at the mo. Regards Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:45, 22 April 2009 (UTC) No rush - as I said I'll withdraw the prod (I had never realised you were the starter until I put that up - if I had realised you were - my very weak miliganeseue humour (or should it be ballardian cycnism) would have come into play with a particular over-wordiness - but hey ceylonese anything at the moment would be more relevant (my father used to judge dogs in colombo in the 1930's and 1950's) - I'll get out of the way - but if you say the word - I'll withdraw the prod - my humble apologies for interrupting the evening meal - cheers SatuSuro 13:54, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey thats fine - at least it got rid of the empty bits - thanks and I will look much more carefully for list/art creatos before i do that again in a hurry - sorry to have been a nuisance SatuSuro 14:31, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Cabinet of Uganda

[edit]

Dr Blofeld, Thank you for your work on the Uganda Cabinet Ministers. I will add my contributions as we go along. I have found out that Hilary Onek's first name is spelled with one "l", as opposed to Hillary the female name with 2 "l"s. He is an engineer with expertise in hydrology. Indian villages

[edit]

Hey Dr. Blofeld,

As you prob know, with the elections in India there have been dozens of articles on tribal villages. Now, I have access to most of them on PressDisplay, but can't do much in the way of writing -- can't navigate the census info, and it takes forever to load PDFs on my EeePC. Could you tell me who to ask to create stubs? Ottre 17:57, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

For instance, just saw in a front-page article from The Hindu that Killomkota is an isolated, interior area controlled by the Maoists. Two main settlements are the villages of Killomkota and Kodimamidi, 10km apart, and both around 150km from Visakhapatnam. Ottre 18:03, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Ask User:Tinucherian. He knows more about Indian villages than myself. Thanks Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:05, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

No, thankyou. I've been wanting to do something like this ever since I got my subscription. Ottre 18:57, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

What do you mean no thankyou? Dr. Blofeld White cat 18:58, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Well, obviously the stubs aren't very useful to readers --at least not at the village level -- without some rudimentary location data. From what I've seen, thanks in large part to editors such as yourself there are more and more people getting involved with the project now who are willing to help find geocoords. Ottre 16:17, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Great, but...

Huh! But why, Blofeld?? Tell, which Cate Blanchett performances you like the most (I mean, in her case it's difficult to choose one)? Seen Heaven, The Gift, Notes on a Scandal, I'm Not There (didn't like I'm not there, I didn't understand the film)????? ShahidTalk2me 14:00, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Blof thank you so much for uploading the image of Rekha. I mean, it's extraordinary. She's so beautiful in it. You know very often do I feel images don't really represent what a person is known for. This one is an image that reflects what she really is, with her intense style, and this very well known sharp gaze, and the traditional outfit. I just didn't tell you how happy I am with this image. She looks better than Reese Witherspoon, ain't she? ShahidTalk2me 20:34, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Ok, so, Back to You

here is an evening of work - well, a couple of hours anyway (I wrote stuff on paper offline first). Needs some cleaning up/wiki-linking, but can you take a look for me and see what you think. Sorry - had a huge Gordian knot to help untie on Tuesday (plus 'twas my mother's birthday, so I didn't get to the computer until late), and yesterday I was helping out with training. I should be able to do some things this evening. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:42, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

No, no - I quite understand. Like I said, I should be able to help some this evening. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 19:48, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, I did a bunch more last night. I'll hopefully be able to do some more tonight. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:06, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
I've got work to do, but I'll try and add in a few things around my lunch break. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:12, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

The last colour change you made to the template (which I prefer by the way), sets the title colour as white with white text, so you can't see the name of the mine in the title, I tried to fix it but it was beyond my Wikibilities. Can you take a look to see if you can fix it, or else it will have to be reverted to the last version of lighter gray. Cheers --kelapstick (talk) 17:27, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Tea production in Sri Lanka

[edit]

Looks excellent. I'll complete the Turkish catting today, and see what else I can work on; I think I'm going to stub a handful of old car makes, like I started doing way back when. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 18:26, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah - I've got a couple of articles I want to work on getting featured, but I just don't have the time. That said, I think it's wise not to lose sight of the sheer magnitude of this project as it already stands; it's mind-boggling to think how much further it can go, but it's already doing pretty well. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 18:41, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
On bias especially, I agree with you; there's a lot that needs to be combatted before the project will meet its full potential. The dearth of coverage in certain areas is baffling. Even topics like opera - I'm bothered that it took as long as it did for an article on Donna Diana to appear here (and I'm the one that did it, I know).
By the same token, I do see the ways in which this Wikipedia is influencing others. I keep an eye on some of my older articles, and I've noticed a handful have begun to be translated into other languages:
Just to name a few I'm sure about.
Anyhow, I see a lot of the issues being ironed out, slowly but surely; I think people have to get more familiar and more curious with the way in which Wikipedia works before they'll be gone completely. You'd be amazed at how many people I know - intelligent, educated people - who think that what I do here is foolish and silly, because what good can it do? A lot, I can tell you. Once that attitude dissipates - and I think it'll take a while, honestly - the project will be on track to be more successful. I'm sure of it. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 19:06, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Attitudes are changing...it's taking a while, but I see it. It used to be that when I told people this was one of my hobbies, I'd open myself to a lot of eye-rolls and whatnot. Not so much today; sure, they're there, but not in the same numbers as before. I think people have been impressed with the longevity of the project, and have come to understand that, if it's been around as long as it has, then maybe there's something to it. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 19:16, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

I happened to see your request here. If all you want is a link to the A-Z quick index, this might be what you need. Put it in Special:Mypage/monobook.js:

/*Add a tab with a link to the A-Z index*/
addOnloadHook(function () {
     addPortletLink('p-cactions', '/wiki/Portal:Contents/Quick_index',
                   'a-z', 't-az', 'A-Z quick index');
});

It will make a new tab for you with a link to the index (assuming you are using the default, monobook skin). MiCkE 21:55, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks, well I know of course the best way to search for a topic you want is to quickly type in the search which I use mostly. My request was for venturing into reading what you don't know or articles which you didn't know existed, kind of like browsing through an A-Z encyclopedia in alpha order aonto the next article rather than searching for an article or subject you know of. It isn't essential but thought as a quick browsing option in preferences not unreasonable. I actually use modern setting. Dr. Blofeld White cat 21:58, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

If you like a link to the index, you should have one ;). Just put the code in Special:Mypage/modern.js for the modern skin. MiCkE 22:03, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Rekha image

[edit]

Hardly did I come to thank you for it, and someone has deleted it... ShahidTalk2me 04:35, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

File:Rekha.jpg

[edit]

I so look forward to the time when you stop taking everything so personal. I saw you quoting wp:civil, please, please actually read it instead of just blaming other editors for breaching it. Regarding this image, it is a copyright violation, plain and simple. The person at flickr simply made a drawing of a copyrighted image, it is really unlikely he holds the copyright to that image. That drawing is a derivative work but that does not stop the original copyright on that image. It could be argued that only the drawing would be allowed (it's not) but you edited the image he made to just end up with the original copyrighted image. I am not saying you acted in bad faith, but it still was incorrect. Also, I am not an admin on Commons so I can't have deleted the image. That was done by Commons:User:Infrogmation. He, indeed, knows this for being a "so called" admin. Garion96 (talk) 09:40, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Quoting WP:Civil? Thats a joke coming from you. If the left top is copyrighted and the drawing isn't it is still a copyrighted image then. I do take it personally as I've lost count of how many times I've seen you stalk people's talk pages or project talk pages and then coincidentally turn up and comment and vote "delete" or take "action". Just when Shahid had said what an excellent and beautiful image, suddenly it is nominated by you for deletion. More than a mere cooincidence given that the image has been on here for six months. If you were really deeply concerned about copyright you would have deleted/nominated the other at the same time. Where is your proof that the top left is copyrighted? It may very well be but find me the original and then I may be more understanding with you. If you happened to genuinely come across it and suddenly decided to nominate it in the commons when doing cleanup with awards then I apologise but it just seems an extreme co-incidence your impeccable timing. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:47, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Please show me where I have been uncivil. I could show you being uncivil to me quite easily though. And no, I don't stalk your page or anyone else's. The current number of user talk pages I have on my watchlist is one, my own. You with 100.000 edits (congratulations btw) are bound to edit articles I also am interested in. I don't need to have your page on my watchlist to encounter edits you make. How I encountered this image was simply because I have the Rekha article for some reason on my watchlist. I never noticed the original image there I just saw someone adding the other image. From that I went to commons and requested deletion. Truth to be told, I didn't even realised you were the uploader. With the commons deletion request script that is not so noticeable anymore. Not that you will believe that of course. Regarding the original image, like I said I never noticed it was uploaded on Commons but that too should probably be deleted. I asked the deleting admin on commons about it. Garion96 (talk) 09:59, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I had no idea you were interested in Indian cinema sorry. The image of Rekha has been there over six months, I was surprised you hadn't deleted it before if its on your watchlist. I quoted Wp:Civil not for you, for myself because when anybody ever shows any completely normal human frustration you brand that at them so I wanted to clear that up. Sometimes you can be good to talk too and we can have a rational discussion but there are times on here when I think "this guy is the biggest ..." If you think the same about me at times too, good. OK well I'm glad you saw that through. We have an image agreement with India FM. I wonder if we could get an actual photograph of her... Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

If it is a vio I've cropped it out. File:Rekha2.jpgreally looks little like her, it looks like Reese Witherspoon but the other image was unacceptable if the left corner is a vio. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:14, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Personally I think even File:Rekha2.jpg is a copyvio. Being a derivative work of a copyrighted image does not stop the original copyright. I will wait till Commons:User:Infrogmation's response. Regarding the rest, we are bound to be in conflict again. But that is nothing personal against you, it just that I sometimes think you're wrong, and I am sure you think I am often wrong too. Nothing wrong with that of course. If only for the fact that you like templates and I kind of hate them. :) And I know you changed it but come on, I never even remotely called you names like you did here. That is what wp:civil is all about. Garion96 (talk) 10:34, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

You can certainly be at times, I'm not kidding. You can be extremely frustrating to deal with at times. I'm not the only one who thinks this. There a group of editors on here who seem to function like policemen and brandish policies and a considerable amount of time don't focus on what is really important on here. You happen to fall into their category. Takes all enjoyment out of wikipedia. Why else would you delete an image just hours after somebody expressed their gratitude and how much they loved the image? You have never once edited the Rekha page, unusual for somebody who actively has it on their watchlist. "Blof thank you so much for uploading the image of Rekha. I mean, it's extraordinary. She's so beautiful in it. You know very often do I feel images don't really represent what a person is known for. This one is an image that reflects what she really is, with her intense style, and this very well known sharp gaze, and the traditional outfit. I just didn't tell you how happy I am with this image." says Shahid. Within just hours the image is then placed as a deletion. Very very strnage cooincidence given that the image has existed on that page for six months under your watchful eye. Its like having a Nazgul about. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:44, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Frustrating because I don't agree with someone, I really don't care and neither should they. But I always have been civil on Wikipedia. No matter how angry I am or how much I disagree with someone I would never do this. And I really don't care (and didn't noticed it before in this case) someone saying that he/she loves an image. If it is a copyright violation, it should be deleted. I also would love having an image on Mylène Farmer but I know there is no free image currently available. If I would find one but if it turns out not to be "free" afer all I would accept that. (wouldn't like it, but would accept it). Garion96 (talk) 11:01, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

A copyrighted image is a copyrighted image yes. You still didn't explain the circumstances of how after having this page on your watchlist for all this time, the image has been there over 6 months how you suddenly decided to nominate it now and not then. You've proved my point exactly about talk page stalking as you were sad enough to rummage in the history of Shahid's tak page to find me being "uncivil" and then cite this. Such an editor clearly has a preoccupation with stalking talk pages whether user or project related and policing about in edit histories which is exactly how you came to nominate this image for deletion. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:04, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Because I saw someone changing the image on my watchlist. I never paid attention to the original image. Garion96 (talk) 11:06, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh yes, I definitely looked over your contributions about 20 minutes ago because I suspected I would indeed find such a comment. And you know what? You proved I was right. Why can't you accept that when someone disagrees with you it is not because of the person hates you, that it's not a huge personal offense and that it's not that user's motto to make your editing life miserable? But for the record, I don't stalk your edits and I don't have your page on my watchlist. (which was the actual reason for looking at your contrib's to check if you responded to me). Garion96 (talk) 11:22, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't doubt you don't have my talk page on your watchlist. What I'm saying is that you clearly regularly check users edits and page histories, activities which are not really constructive to improving wikipedia. WHy waste your time checking Shahid's talk page when you could be constructively spending your time on here. Your operations reflect deletionism on here across the encyclopedia and I've never seen one example or where an edit has been a progression. It is always removing, removing, removing with you. I'll do a you now and look at your contributions. What percentage would you say contain a negative word like "revert, remove, reverse, rm flag, copyright". Thats my point Garion. I don't doubt that some of them are valid and needed edits but it seems you are happy deleting things. Thats why we directly clash at times is because I'm mostly contructive in my outlook, you see things from a deletionist persepctive. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:29, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Correct, currently I mostly do WikiGnomish work. I might go back to more writing when I feel like it. Not that there is anything wrong with wikignomish work, both are needed on Wikipedia. Which is completely different from being a deletionist btw. The wasting my time looking at your Shahid's page was that I strongly suspected you would make such an edit, which you did. That we sometimes clash is completely understandable, why we can't "civilly" clash without you making such comments is still a mystery to me. Garion96 (talk) 11:52, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I sometimes flare up yes when it seems the circumstances of something seem too circumstantial to be otherwise thats why. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:02, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi Blofeld, no the copyvio is not just the image in the top left. The drawing is obviously modeled after the photo. That is also a copyright violation. You might want to read the article derivative work. Calliopejen1 (talk) 11:56, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, see this forum discussion for a quick summary. Calliopejen1 (talk) 11:57, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Pretty tough. I'm perfectly happy for the drawing itself to be deleted, awful. it looks like Reese Witherspoon. We'll have to return to the naked look then until a new image is found. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:00, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

because we talk a lot, and because you and Albert Herring are often discussing things that interest me. Calliopejen1 (talk) 12:08, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Well...

[edit]

Rahul Blofeld Rahul!! Not Raul!! I hope you don't start calling me Shaid LOLZZ...

Well no idea but he's very busy now. There's a problem with these images in recent times. They all have logos on them. ShahidTalk2me 12:26, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

LOL hhahahaha!! But Blof stop it Reese is not that unpleasant to look at. She's not extremely beautiful, not the most talented, but she handles it well, though I still think her work in Walk the Line is a bit overrated. ShahidTalk2me 12:31, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
But you were right about the chatterbox. And I don't like her voice. I like actors who try to improve. As you know Kya Kehna was Preity Zinta's first film, and even though she acted well for a newcomer, even very well, I did not like her voice in the film. And since then she has improved her voice tremendously. And I like her typical screams and minor hoarseness in her voice. In her first film to get released, Dil Se, she was just fantastic. So natural. She was the relief of this serious and dark film about terror and impossible love, though the part was small. I saw this after I already had been almost a fan and was surprised. Many critics have noted that what made her a completely different actress is this zest she adds into any of her diverse characters, her bubbliness, love for life and optimism, even in the most serious and tragic roles and the most most dramatic scenes. Films look different only because she's in them. That's what makes a complete actor. I like all her films with the exception of some five-six.
I don't like Rani Mukerji's husky voice though. It's annoying at times. And I get angrier when I think about her film roles. She was so great in Black (seen it?), and since then her career has been going down with every film. ShahidTalk2me 12:53, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

What? Jenice's voice is one of the funniest. I mean she does that intentionally as part of her comic acting. Well... So have you seen Black or just parts of it??
Oh, and... I like Diane Keaton's one which I find pleasant. Meryl Streep's natural voice is also annoying at times, but she has made so many of them so I don't know what to think. And all her accents......... I'd love to see her making an Indian accent which I don't like. BTW, I don't have an Indian accent. Really, at least generally. ShahidTalk2me 13:14, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Italian accent is funny because they somehow lose some letters in between. I like Sophia Loren's one, but hate Roberto Beigni's one. ShahidTalk2me 13:28, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey that's just great!! Go to bed at 8 am??? LOL!! Well good night to you then. We live in defferent parts of the world. I really go to bed cause I haven't slept well. I'm quite unwell these days. ShahidTalk2me 21:48, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I feel a bit unwell, much stress, no time, lots of things to go about. Frankly speaking, though I like all these songs very much, when I go to sleep, I usually listen Indian songs like this and this and beautiful ghazals by Lataji and Ashaji (which I won't give you links to cause I know you'll hate them LOL. ShahidTalk2me 22:00, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Yes LOL Amitji, Abhishek and Hrithik are really tall. Shahrukh and Salman are like dwarfs compared to them. Oh and there are some girls as well. Like Shilpa, Tabbu and Sushmita Sen. Just put Sush with Rani Mukerji who is very short you'll be shocked. ShahidTalk2me 12:22, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Huh LOL, but I don't there's any such thing as average. It depends, because India has many states and every state has different people in terms of their average height or weight.
Blof what's your opinion of Mommie Dearest? Is it true according to you? ShahidTalk2me 12:52, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
No, but I've seen the movie and it's hard to believe Crawford was such a devil according to her daughter. ShahidTalk2me 12:56, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Aadara Hasuna

[edit]

Hello. I see that you removed the prod notice from Aadara Hasuna, an article that you created yourself. Would you take the time to explain why the article meets WP:NFILMS. Your edit summary was not helpful. Thanks. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 14:21, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

It is one of the few Sri Lankan films listed on imdb, also has a page in the Sri Lankan film database, stars notable award winning mainstream Sinhalese actors like Joe Abeywickrama , Vasanthi Chathuraniand a notable director. This is usually some indication of notability as its says in the guidelines. Just needs expanding and sources added, like in Sinhalese unfortunately it is not likely many sources in english exist on the web, thats doesn't mean it non notable though. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:23, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

None of this, as stated, seems to meet the requirements, but OK. I shall await your improvements without prejudice. BTW, since you created the article, and clearly have an interest in it, would you consider adding it to your watchlist so it doesn't fall between the cracks. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 14:33, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I started them for Chanakal to expand actually. I'm not from Sri Lanka myself but I have an interest in world film and I know that films starring the above actors are mainstream films in that country. If it was an independent low scale film by unknown actors and directors in that country and not mentioned in any mainstream film sites then it would be questionable. The film is verified it just needs expansiona dn improvement with sources. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:37, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Re:Adara Hasuna

[edit]

Hi, I don't like to assume incivility of those who call me a friend. But I think You should have actually nominate my name as a co-expander in DYK. Not that I crave DYK credits, but as a token appreciation. You know that I also worked dearly for that article. I don't wanna a rift with an editor whom I think of as a friend of mine. Adara Hasuna is a notable film by a notable director. I'll try to do something about it. But I dearly hope you consider what I mentioned above.--Chanaka L (talk) 14:49, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I thought myself nominating the article for DYK. But with first writing you a note that I am noming and You and Me as co-expanders. You are here long enough no this. I am middle of creating Southwestern Sri Lanka rivers and streams. I hope, you do to me as I would have do to you.--Chanaka L (talk) 15:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I don't take those seriously. Cheers--Chanaka L (talk) 15:09, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

I love Cologne Blue, myself - that's the one I use all the time. The only issue I've got with it is that it's not compatible with AWB, for some reason. So I have to change the skin when I'm working with that. It's a flaming nuisance, and I wish they'd do something about it. Ah, well...
As for Mr. Gates, I don't think he's hurting, no. But I am sorry to hear that about him, because he does a lot of good with his money, which is more than I can say for a lot of others who have a comparable amount. I do have a fair amount of respect for him.
Anyhow, I'm off to enjoy this lovely afternoon with some friends. I haven't forgotten your e-mail; I just haven't had a proper moment to sit down and respond. I'll get to it tonight, promise. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 18:27, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Agriculture in Saudi Arabia

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Agriculture in Saudi Arabia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks, mynameinc 20:45, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

You can't remove speedy delete notices from pages you create. However, you can add Template:Hangon, which I did for you. Thanks, mynameinc 20:54, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
This is blatant copyright violation. If you will not tell us why the page should not be deleted on the talk page of the article, please remove the template:hangon tag from it. T3chl0v3r (talk) 21:09, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Never Mind. T3chl0v3r (talk) 21:14, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Trombidium

[edit]

hi blofeld,

i just found out that you created stubs for all Trombidium species. these contain absolutely no information that don't also occur on the Trombidium page, even less (no describer, no distribution). a while ago, i was scolded when mass producing pages that are even a bit more informative, so i wanted to be sure that you're aware of current policy regarding this. my own opinion is that these pages are at the moment useless at least: people will think there's more information ahead, but there's none. there isn't even a full stop at the end of the only sentence. so if you think it's a good idea to keep these pages, it would be nice if you brought them at least to the minimal standard (describer, distribution) and add a {{ArthropodTalk|Stub|Low}} to their Talk pages. it's quite unlikely that there will ever be more information on most of these species. if every species of a genus links to a skeleton page, it's very hard to see where real information can be found (in this case, all the "dead" blue links hide the Trombidium holosericeum page, which otherwise would easily pop out between the red links). just to give you the right idea, i once created 550 stubs of jumping spider genera, but these i am fleshing out for the last few years. i know how frustrating it is to have lots of hard work reverted, so just want to make sure our energy is spent in the most productive way possible :) if you want to contribute to the taxo pages in the future, and have questions about how best to proceed, i'd be glad to help you if you have any questions. cheers! --Sarefo (talk) 09:40, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm not interested in contributing to this field myself. I came across this on new page patrol and thought it might help the creator if he is working on them to expand them. The idea is not so they are initially more helpful, it is to branch out and encourage thos einterested to write them, as clearly shown by Trombidium holosericeum. But if you don't want articles on species started or any for that matter, then don't leave them as red links. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:05, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Dr. Blofeld. You have new messages at Sarefo's talk page.

Re: Mexican states

[edit]

Hi, I'll try to do it tonight or tomorrow, as soon as i finish some work I'm currently doing. It'd be nice to have it regionalized like the Veracruz one, but unfortunately I don't really know how the Oaxacans organize their regions. I'm from Veracruz, that's why my state's template is a little better ;). Once again, I'll do it either tonight or tomorrow morning. Cheers EOZyo (мѕğ) 13:35, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I didn't noticed it was you who did it, but i did notice that it was highly improved. I live in Canada and it's very hard for me to find accurate sources and imagery for my state (if any); later this year i'll go on vacations and i'll buy books and take a lot of pictures in order to improve a lot of the articles concerning my states. Just as a marginal note, i rather to do all this in the English wikipedia, because the Spanish one is a crazy mafia :-S. Cheers EOZyo (мѕğ) 14:39, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Done (Template:Oaxaca). Take a look at it and please let me know if that's what you needed. Cheers EOZyo (мѕğ) 14:59, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
Not a prob, I'm glad to help. It was easy to update that one; believe me the Veracruz one was kinda hard for me to do with all the darn divisions. I believe that Oaxaca's will be the same if there are Regional Divisons. I did the Veracruz like that because my plans are to put History, Gastronomy and such, like in Template:Texas. Cheers and keep with the good work, EOZyo (мѕğ) 15:19, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Good question, but I don't have as much time to dedicate myself completely to an article.

I also get a bit frustrated that there are so many articles that need to be worked on. Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Raj Kapoor, Meena Kumari, Nargis. Most of them are either brief or don't make justice to the person.

Of the current lot, I thought of working on such articles as Manisha Koirala, but it's not easy to spot her early career well. Rekha is a dream article which I'd like to expand but it's too much, she has quite a career and net sources would never suffice.

I thought recently to start working on my current favourite actress, Konkona Sen Sharma. I've already expanded the lead. ShahidTalk2me 04:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

There are many things you don't know Blof. If you don't remember, I was busy and stressed even before I left to India. ShahidTalk2me 12:44, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh she was hot!!! BASIC INSTINCT!!! What about Monica Belluci? ShahidTalk2me 16:39, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Penelope Cruz is gorgeous, sexy, and extremely beautiful.
At 75, Sophia Loren is still hot!! Have you seen her at the Oscars? She's amazing!!! Well in my opinion she's one of the most beautiful women ever. And if we're talking about old ladies and Oscars, seen Helen Mirren's acceptance speech? She looked stunning despite her age, though I never found her beautiful. ShahidTalk2me 17:21, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
You never told me anything about Aishwarya Rai. Maybe because her beauty is taken for granted.
Hey listen the Preity article needs to be updated ASAP, so I'll soon be asking you for your help and advice (please don't get upset). Nothing about her roles in Heroes, Heaven on Earth is written enough. Although you helped me to write the Heroes part which is quite good thanks to you, I need to update reception, but she was so well-received for this role, that I start being paranoid and don't know how to write it so as not to make it look too POV. As for Heaven On Earth, as you know she was nominated for a Genie, it's her first role in a non-Indian film, and so many critics in both India and Canada and abroad have been all praise for her with many saying it's her best ever performance that I don't know how to handle it. She was very emotional during shooting (cause she played a battered wife and started feeling homesick in Canada), she made a research for the role, she learned Punjabi, a language completely alien to her (the entire film is in Punjabi). That's all so relevant, and I get scared of only thinking of it as a potential paragraph to write.
She also adapted 34 children on her 34th birthday (I can't believe it can you?) which is quite a big deal.
I thought of splitting the "Success" section into two because "The Last Lear" marked the beginning of a new phase in her career - she started working in non--commercial independent art films, so it needs to be collected in a new section. Will you be there with your advices and language suggestions when I start working on this update in a few days? ShahidTalk2me 17:46, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
I can't believe you think that about me. Kidding or not, I never said and never implied. I'm not such a hypocrite. I don't have to imply or take the whole credit or say something to make a point, because I'm a very honest person. I just mentioned the article as Wildi mentioned articles she's worked on. And there's nothing wrong even if I said that, because if I have to be perfectly frank, I was the one who added all the information that you see now on the article, I've always protected it from anything that could be wrong and/or inapporpriate, observed every little detail, made long analises and long sections on the talk page, added sources, and escorted it in every aspect in both good and bad times. And it's very close to my heart, something that I'm sure none of you guys feels as strongly about. Just like Kareena to Rahul. So yes, I've been the main editor, feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong. Both you great Blofeld and the amazing Dwai and the extraordinary John Carter have helped me in different stages of the article in terms of (amazing) writing and copyediting, (unconditional) support, suggestions etc., for which I've always been grateful and open and will always be. I've always mentioned it, whether on the FAC, on my own userpage or every other platform. I was very happy when I saw you adding your and Dwai's names into the wikiproject table, because you were an integral part of this article's promotion.
And I definitely can handle it alone. The fact that I come to you should only prove how I recognise your help and talent. I like discussing such things, I like reviewing different opinions, styles and ways of presentation. And not once did I ask for John's opinions as well. I wouldn't come to you for help if I didn't think you are familiar enough with the article, or an amazingly gifted writer, or a great friend, or someone whose opinion matters to me the most for many reasons. ShahidTalk2me 19:30, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Well... ShahidTalk2me 21:06, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Well again I didn't say you were not part of this article's history. If you didn't want to help me out you should have said openly. I never asked you to come and copyedit. As I said, I was turning to you because I trusted your intelligent view and because "I like discussing such things, I like reviewing different opinions, styles and ways of presentation." I was always showing you my drafts and asking what your opinion is. Your name has always been credited as one of the article's main editors. And I said that I thought you're "an amazingly gifted writer, or a great friend, or someone whose opinion matters to me the most for many reasons."
Your behaviour is disappointing. I'm happy we had this discussion though. Have a nice day. ShahidTalk2me 22:15, 30 April 2009 (UTC
