I'm teaching a 4000-level course called "Drug Chemistry" in Spring 2006. As I dig around for up-to-date information on various pharmaceutical drugs and drug-related topics, I'm trying to put some of this information into Wikipedia.
I'm something of an information junkie. I'll read anything put in front of me. Wikipedia may consume my free time. I've been known to engage in drive-by wikification of articles that I wanted to read anyway. (See Special:Contributions/Csari for some examples.)
Peeves
[edit]I'm too new to Wikipedia to really have an opinion yet, but so far, I'm thinking my two big pet peeves are:
- people who paste in their own advertising/commercial material, especially when the source website claims copyright on it. (I've found lots of it while wikifying.)
- editors who create an article without looking very carefully for the article under a different title. I recently merged endocrine system and endocrine gland - they shared a figure and the shorter one had very little content that wasn't already in the other. Big waste of time, writing an article that already exists. Big waste of my time, trying to find all the unique bits in the shorter article before redirecting it. (Especially annoying big waste of my time wikifying the shorter article, since I didn't find the longer article until after I'd finished it.) After I finished that merge, then I found endocrine sytem! Ugh.
And my biggest computer vs wikipedia pet peeve:
- Sometimes if I switch tabs while editing and come back, the edit page reloads, to the article as it was before I started! Firefox, on OSX. What causes this? I've lost more time than I'd care to tally on this one!
