Wikimania 2012 bid, DC chapter & next meetup!

[edit]
  1. At WikiXDC in January, User:Harej proposed that DC submit a bid to host Wikimania 2012. A bid and organizing committee is being formed and seeks additional volunteers to help. Please look at our bid page and sign up if you want to help out. You can also signup for the bid team's email list.
  2. To support the Wikimania bid, more events like WikiXDC, and outreach activities like collaborations with the Smithsonian (ongoing) and National Archives, there also has been discussion of forming Wikimedia DC, as an official Wikimedia chapter. You can express interest and contribute to chapter discussions on the Wikimedia DC Meta-Wiki pages.
  3. To discuss all this and meet up with special guest, Dutch Wikipedian User:Kim Bruning, there will be a meetup, Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 16 this Tuesday at 7pm, at Capitol City Brewery, Metro Center. There will be a pre-meetup Wikimania team meeting at 6pm at the same location.

Apologies for the short notice for this meetup, but let's discuss when, where & what for DC Meetup #17. Also, if you haven't yet, please join wikimedia-dc mailing list to stay informed. Cheers, User:Aude (talk)

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (2011 ballet)

[edit]

I can't even find where you deleted the article I wrote that is in question, somebody please tell me how to delete all of my information...account and everything else associated with WIKI wacky pedia. thank you Wikiabop (talk) 22:51, 1 March 2011 (UTC) sorry Alice could not find anywhere else to post. Wikiabop (talk) 22:51, 1 March 2011 (UTC) Hello Chrislk02, I see you deleted as implausible Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (2011 ballet) (with two single quotes before and after the title). (See (Deletion log); 21:06.) Well, I certainly think you did the right thing but, in accordance with the help you offer on your user page, you might be able to help me out. I was simply trying to put the title in italics and thought the usual double single quote marks would do the trick. But no, they appeared in the title. So please tell me how to present the title of an article in italics. As you may have noticed, the Alice ballet is not it italics at the moment. Perhaps you can fix it and tell me how you did it. - Ipigott (talk) 22:08, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I fixed it with the DISPLAYTITLE tag. You live and learn! - Ipigott (talk) 10:01, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

See the Talk:Bodhi (operating system):

  1. It's still in beta and has not had a production release and has not been reviewed.
  2. It's been created and speedied several times over the last three weeks. It's a recreation with a different title.

My edit comment said to check the talk page for reasons. Yworo (talk) 22:12, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Ok, you have sold me - I revisited it and followed the links they provided - in the future though previous deltions via CSD does not mean future articles are automatically subject to CSD - I do agree in this case. In general I would rather send this to AFD (I prefer to err on the side of caution) but I feel it would be a snowball at AFD due to the trends I have seen there and will just save everybody the trouble. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 22:17, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I forgot that only AFD'ed articles are technically eligible for db-repost. Though certainly repeated spam can be deleted. It may very well end up notable once it is finished, released and reviewed, but this simply looks like promotion of a link to the website of a future product. Yworo (talk) 22:19, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Re. [1] "give it some time before csd tagging it" - note, the author 'tagged' it themselves when they created it - presumably because it was a recreation. See log.  Chzz  ►  22:41, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Also, I don't think it is great to suggest they develop an article "on their talk". It would be better to suggest creating a user-space draft, perhaps linking Wikipedia:USERSPACEDRAFT, and/or mentioning WP:WIZARD.  Chzz  ►  22:43, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
(Response to first Post) Lols, I see what you I did (and what you are saying) - It appears that they copied what they had in the previous one before I deleted it, expanded it and pasted it back in for the re-creation (I hope you did not take any offense to the comment!). Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 22:45, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
(Response to second Post) I agree but was too lazy to help them create a sandbox. You are welcome to post that information on their page as well! Anybody can help new editors learn their way around, especially if they show signs that they may be constructive editors.Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 22:45, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Mhm, no worries. Certainly, no offence taken; I'm glad you didn't take offence at my mentioning it! It happens quite often - people copy back articles with CSD tag in place. Something to watch for. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  23:44, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

I forgot to check if that article had already been tagged and declined; sorry about that (although in my defense, I tagged it under a different criteria). I think I've managed to chop out most of the advertising, although a confirmation from someone else would be good. The user who created that has a username that's borderline at best. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 22:49, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

I did not mean any offense in my CSD rejection notice - I just like to record the CSD counts (for my own personal sake/sanity) when I am patrolling CSD. It saves me from having to go to far into the history to identify if it was a previous CSD (again, I hope you were not offended and if you were please accept my sincerest apologies). Also, thanks for doing some work on it! I will take a look if I get a chance but I have to get ready and go teach a class here in a few minutes and am preparing my lecture for the day. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 22:51, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Not offended at all; it happens. I'm usually good about checking that, but I make my mistakes every so often. Hope your class goes well. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 22:54, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Liisi Beckmann

[edit]

I read the FAQ and I'd like to "convice" you, because Liisi doesn't pass the Google Test, as there are only 195000 results about her. I know she isn't so popular yet, she had misunderstandigs with companies and she wasn't so good with public relations, but I swear she IS really notable. For exemple, she designed a plate which was exhibited at MoMA, or a famous armchair called Karelia which was produced by Zanotta in 1966 and back into production since 2007. You can find it everywere on web, but find only the name of Liisi, without photos or biography or notices or something. I think it is so unfair, and I decided to write her biography and pay tribute to her job. She lived primarily in Italy, Germany and Finland, but I thought about writing an article on english Wikipedia too, cause i guess she might get more visibility in this way.

k.r. --Gnegnegni (talk) 11:48, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

I agree that Liisi Beckmann has significance, having seen some of her works at the finnish design museum. I actually looked information about her first on finnish wikipedia and then came to look for more on english one only to be surprised not only that there was not more information about her in english wikipedia but that that page about her was removed.

There seems to be some of her works in decopedia also (decopedia seems to be in spam list of wikipedia for some reason so I cannot add link here.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pegax (talkcontribs) 18:44, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Have you read our policies on Original Research and Reliable Sources? In short, for you to "convince" me, what I mean is you need to provide me with a reliable source. Decopoedia does not appear to be reliable. I hope this helps! Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 22:31, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

I am not much of wikipedia editor but Liisi Beckmann can be found for example on The design encyclopedia (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/087070012X/). Dwell magazine show cases the karelia chair in its may 2007 issue on page 64. (http://books.google.com/books?id=lMQDAAAAMBAJ) These should be valid references in english. Also "Quattordicesima triennale di Milano" from 1968 contains her works, but this is in Italian. (http://openlibrary.org/books/OL21937120M/Quattordicesima_triennale_di_Milano.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.24.24.26 (talk) 11:49, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

The Dirtball

[edit]

The Dirtball article was deleted after being an article for a while, I think this article is important, because he is a solo rapper signed to Suburban Noize Records, a major record label, and he is a part of the punk rock band X-Pistols. Can you help me out with how I can prove importance?- Diversity8 (talk) 06:08, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

I couldn't find anything in reference-please give me a detailed message- it is getting redirected to wikipedia article - further, other references from encyclopedia are not working properly in list

Just like you, I couldnt find proper source that the awards were given before 1968, that is why I gave the right introduction to article, that the awards list includes list only from 1960 / 1968

Please let the administrator decide - neither you nor do I - we both not have sources that the award was first given in 1968 or before 1968 - you can make grammar correction in introduction - the award recieved by an actress in 1960 was CITED

some awards before 1960's are not published in national news papers - who ru u to decide friend whether the source is reliable or not - ur not administrator - encyclopedia Britannica is not even opening

jointscene.com is a reliable source or not administrator will decide - It is not your job alone to harass fellow users - wikipedia is not yours alone - its everyones - every one is free to edit genuinely - this is a genuine contribution

Herostratus (talk) 06:03, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Hello. Earlier today the article for [[2]] was extremely quickly deleted through section A7. I read the article your about bands in order to better respond to you. Although the band is relatively new onto the scene, they've accomplished a ton in a very short time. They've been on a major Ontario radio station (as cited) and will have an interview posted in a magazine in the next few weeks (also to be posted). They are also signed to the promotions company Pure Fokus Entertainment. The band will be headlining a major Hamilton venue this week, only shortly after opening for a very notable band (also on Wikipedia). The band's first tour to promote their EP album will take place in August for several weeks. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.119.240.113 (talk) 15:19, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

That is a very interesting story, and congratulations on your potential success! I am looking forward to reading about your band in any reliable sources that you can provide! (In short, you telling me is not enough - thousands of local bands get spots on local radio stations (e.g. I remember every week the Rock station I listened to growing up at a locals time slot)). Hope this helps! Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 02:24, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi! Sorry to bother you, but someone raised the deletion of the above article on the editor assistance noticeboard. I had a look, and based on the version at deletionpedia, I agree with your use of A7. However, I also found a few reliable source's covering the band's history, so I think those problems can be covered. It might be tricky, as the page has since been turned into a redirect, but would you be willing to undelete and userfy it for a bit while I fix the referencing? - Bilby (talk) 12:38, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Greetings; this editor, who has been blocked for alleged sockpuppetry (not by me) has filed an unblock request naming you as an authority in his case, which I understand involves his being repeatedly blocked for this offence. I make no comment whatsoever as to the validity of the block, but as you are being quoted by the user would you care to comment on his request? --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 11:58, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Do you have a link to where he is quoting me? In all honesty I do not care. I rememberback in the day the guy was nothing but a troll (and I suspect he still is). If I remember correctly, another account closely related to this one also recently requested an unblock. If you give me a link, I'd take a look. Chrislk02 Chris Kreider 14:29, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
It's in his unblock request. But this is now being reviewd by the blocking admin, so I guess you can avoid invovement. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 19:54, 17 April 2011 (UTC)

Chris, I am surprised you didn't remember me... I could still show you the e-mails we exchanged back in the day, you even gave a barnstar. Now I was ofcourse unbanned again in April, but still I had always thought you would remember me and could intervene again if I were banned again for the same unfair reason as happened in April this year. Well, I hope you remember now. Best regards, Kermanshahi (talk) 10:48, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Nomination of System bus model for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article System bus model is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/System bus model until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article.

Hello, an update: the AfD was closed with lack of consensus. I waffled a bit since I wanted to create a system bus article which I have done now. I suspect that removed most of the objections to the deletion, so the question is what to do next. You seem the original author? In particular, there is some discussion of the main source used, which appears to have some errors or at least glosses over details. There also seems a new version of the book is out, but we only have a snippet view. So if you have the original source, your opinion would be greatly appreciated at the talk page. Thanks much. W Nowicki (talk) 19:56, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Also you seem the original uploader (three years ago) of File:Systembusmodel.png which I redid with Inkscape as File:Computer system bus.svg. I also fixed what seems an error. The CPU is equal to the ALU, registers, and controls, not part of the box. Does this seem reasonable? Also I credited where the diagram seems to come, although it is probably widely done similarly.
