Dear CambridgeBayWeather,

From what I understand, I'm unable to use my user page as an "article." If that's correct, how would I move my current work to an article? I currently have the code saved on my computer, so if I can't have my page moved, how would I create a new article about myself?

Right now, a lot of my sources are out of print. They were written about me in the 70's through early 90's, and they're all archived, if they even exist. Presently, how can I resolve the notibility issues? Or, is there something I can place in my article that says "soures pending?"

Arctic Cordillera vs. "Arctic Rockies"

[edit]

Hi; would you please see Talk:Arctic Cordillera, the new section on the bottom re the sobriquet "Arctic Rockies". User:Black Tusk says "Arctic CordilleraZ" isn't official but I've seen it on an NRC page I think; situation is the CEC ecozone has different bounaries, and isn't a mountain range, and isn't/shouldn't be categorized the same way. I was wondering if you knew what usage is actually used by Nunavut or by the press in Iqaluit or Pang when referring to this range, if it's even referred to as one range (and not several). As one of teh only northerns ("Arcticians") in Wikipedia, hoping you can shed some light on this...Skookum1 (talk) 02:29, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your close. I should make some comments, though. The relevant process would be RfC, not RfAr. The file was already used in an RfAr, and so there is some concern about concealing evidence that was the basis for comments at RfAr. There are diffs, etc., in the discussion. I think you should edit the close to change RfAr to RfC. I had already offered to blank the page when the MfD was closed, but will ask an arbitrator for an opinion about blanking evidence presented to ArbComm. Thanks again. Your close is probably minimally disruptive for the moment, and certainly doesn't create any disruption.

Note, the history of edits on that page was in the process of being extended to the complete history of Cold fusion, that isn't done. This is just a pile of diffs with edit summaries. I may unblank to add more diffs, but will then immediately blank, within a minute or so. That way the most complete version of the file will be available for access. I will only do this to add pure evidence, not conclusions. (This allows me to use a permanent link in the negotiations I expect to precede RfC and hopefully to avoid it.) --Abd (talk) 22:37, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Normally I would reply on your talkpage but as I assume that there will be multiple comments on this so I would prefer to keep it all here. You are correct I should have said RfC. I didn't want to protect for two reasons. One was to allow anyone to be able to see which parts were used in the RFAR and also so that you could obtain the material easily enough. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 22:50, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, your prediction about comments didn't pan out.... I noticed a few minutes ago that you did delete the page; I've been working on the RfC as you saw from my Talk page response to you. I'd rather not rush the RfC "into print" until it's clean and complete, which will probably take me until tomorrow. I have created a new page with the name and a note about recreation, but if you could replace that note with the original page for another day, I'd appreciate it. The reason I replaced it with the note (which, because it contains no information about JzG other than the neutral name of the page, doesn't violate the sense of the MfD) is that there are people reviewing the RfC, considering certifying it, these are editors who previously expressed concern to me.
I can, of course, simply provide a copy of the evidence from my own copy offline, when I file the RfC, but .... that page contained reference to the version from history that was provided to RfAr/Clarification, which is why the MfD was really quite inappropriate, this wasn't evidence compiled for use before ArbComm, it was evidence already presented to ArbComm, which may have influenced a decision. But I did not contest that because it was largely moot if the file was going to stay or come back anyway. --Abd (talk) 18:36, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

[edit]

Somebody left another obnoxious message in the white tiger article. This seems more like internet bullying and harassment (the last couple of messages) than constructive criticism aimed at improving the article. I don't want to dignify them with a response. I suspect some of them may object more to the subject than to the article. They want an article which reflects its lack of significance. Would'nt no article be even better? Most articles on white tigers refer to "white genes." It's just a simplified way of explaining things. As for white tigers being "significant only in popular discourse", the bibliography includes articles from scientific journals. He or she probably never read that far. Besides I did'nt realize that wikipedia articles had to be confined to topics of scientific significance. Do you think the article needs cleaning up and makes no sense? I was thinking that maybe the sections on white tigers in the wild and the historical references should me merged at some point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.1.195.4 (talk) 20:28, 26 February 2009 (UTC) PS I have tried to say everything there is to say on the subject and include as many references as possible for those who are interested. I figured we might be caught in the edit conflict; I just happened to see the deletion while I was checking on my dinner break. No problem at all. It does look like there were multiple people there this morning...before I left the warning. Deletion of Patrick Christie Ink (Australian Artist)

[edit]

http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Patrick_Christie_(Australian_artist)&action=edit&redlink=1

I actually do have a substantial amount of research, sources and references to write this article. I sat down to write it out last night and after just a few minutes, wikipedia.org went down so I didn't have access to the site for over 6 hours. It appears that during that time Rcawsey came by and marked the article patrolled and then you couldn't wait to use your delete button.

I understand why you two responded the way you did to the stub you found. Just wanted to let you know it was because of technical problems with the site.

I will develop the article on my userpage sandbox and then publish the full article when it is done to ensure technical problems don't create another roadblock.

I just skimmed through the article and only found one more bit of vandalism. It does'nt seem to be in bad shape after all. I was thinking of trying to trim some of the fat off it, but the individual sections are'nt all that long, and you did'nt have any issue with the length, so maybe I'll leave well enough alone. It seems to be holding up quite well, contrary to what I thought, and thanks to wikipedia's efforts to repair vandalism. I will still try and improve it. Hi Cambridge Bay Weather,

List of parks in British Columbia isn't a duplicate of List of British Columbia Provincial Parks; the former list includes all parks in the province (regional parks, provincial parks, and national parks), while the latter is restricted only to parks which are specifically designated as "provincial parks". Would you mind if I reverted your redirect of the more inclusive list?

Map of Nunavut

[edit]

Dr. Blofeld (talk · contribs) has been changing the locater maps of not just Nunavut but Alberta, and Saskatchewan. The ones of Alberta and Saskatchewan are not bad but the Nunavut ones are horrible like this one Sanikiluaq, Nunavut i think someone needs to talk to him about the maps mostly the north ones. OK thank you for the help.Kyle1278 (talk) 23:24, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Saskatchewan and ALberta ones are not bad? They are miles better than the horrid maps we had before. The maps for Canadian places really need sorting out.

File:Canada geopolitical map trim.jpg is a terrible map to use for a pin map. It looks as cluttered as anything. I agree it would be better to get a blank map of Canada, preferbly svg which shows province divisions. What I don't like is the way Kyle and yourself self "reported" me as if I am some sort of nuisance and am degrading "your articles". Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:23, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ever thought of copying the French version of that location map? It's reduced to the necessary information, no interfering legend, flag or coats of arm what's completely needless for a location map, not too colourful, every pin can be seen, even by colour-blind users, and as you can see at the French page its accuracy is almost 1 i.e. perfect. This map is used in French and German WP as a location map and has the same style like most of the other location maps. --NNW (talk) 10:52, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I had actually picked that map as first choice which is EXACTLY what is needed for these articles but due the fact I couldn't find the map coordinates I couldn't use it. If you see the Dutch horrid map a lurid yellow colour you'll see I actually tried to improve it. I know it was not a good map but I was just trying to get something on track with a blank map. If we can use the map you linked as I had originally intended and can find the coordinates I would be happy to see this map in all the articles on places in Canada. In my view if we could ciombine a territory locator map with a national locator this would greatly improve things I think. Best regards. Dr. Blofeld White cat 13:54, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I asked an user from de-WP to fix the template. It's a little bit difficult because this map has got a special projection so I cannot do it myself. Spreading discussions are quite horrible in my opinion. In de-WP discussions stay where they were begun, a better way I think, much easier to follow. :-) --NNW (talk) 17:04, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No it would need to be something like right. The quality is not good enough of those I checked initially. I've cropped this, finding the coordinates for it to work is a major obstacle though. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:13, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well we've asked one or two "expert" in the coord adding field to look into it. Hopefully something can be done. If so theres so reason why we couldn't make deriratives of it providing the coordinates can be found from each region and create decent maps by area. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:42, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My prying eyes have successfully ended up finding the correct coordinates. It was under our eyes all of the time. Believe it or not our dvg map was based upon the map you had been using, this is why the projection is identical in shape. Aargh however at present the coordinates still seem off. Nice work finding the national teams of Nunavut, Quebec and PEI, as I put on the AfD, the PEI page says they represented PEI in the Island Games, but the 2007 Island Games page says they didn't participate in soccer (the 2007 games website says they participated in 5 sports out of 14). Interesting the Quebec and Nunavut pages were created by a user with a history of inappropriate soccer team pages such as Hawaii and Caprivi Strip, while the PEI was probably a good faith mistake by a long time editor who works on soccer team articles (User:Calapez has been here since 2006). Again nice work and thanks for catching that category for me.--kelapstick (talk) 23:04, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have noticed this on many articles about Canada's northern communities. The way the infobox look off i'm just wondering if there is anyway to make this look better or eliminate the problem completely. Cheers Kyle1278 05:01, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What i mean by it was the infobox looks more wide than it should be i think its the location map but i'm not 100% sure it could also just be my computer, ill look it up on my other computer and see if its just this one.--Cheers Kyle1278 18:11, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MacDonald Cartier International Airport Editing

[edit]

I have noticed you have undone some of the updates to this page, including an award that had a source linked to it as well. Also, you removed my list of secondary tenants on the grounds of the airport. I would like to know why, as I am an employee with one of those tenants, and can assure you that all information was most accurate. In future, do not edit information in an area where you yourself may not be sure of the details. Especially when it has factual evidence.

Personal attack from User:C1k3

[edit]

Hello. I am contacting you because I see you already warned User:C1k3 about personal attacks. Today this person threatened me on my talk page with, "I'll revert your shit till you supply a satisfactory rationale for including Ed Wood in the Francis Dec article."[3] (though he did remove "shit"[4] two hours later). More generally he seems to have WP:OWN problems, trying to control any mention of Ed Wood on Wikipedia, refusing to discuss meaningfully at Talk:Francis E. Dec, hiding all his actions under minor edits, and apparently intent on edit-warring. I wondered if you could you provide some help or an uninvolved outsider's view? Questionable Edits

Hi. I'm concerned at a growing list of very questionable edits made by 69.208.77.69 - a new user. I don't want to get into an edit war so if possible I'd appreciate your view. Thanks David T Tokyo (talk) 23:00, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As much as I agree with the version of Umar and Umar at Fatimah's house you reverted to, this is borderline content dispute. I say borderline because while some points have been raised, there is also constant attack on me and my religious group. So... just be careful not to get drawn into this. I wish I wasn't in it in the first place. --pashtun ismailiyya 02:36, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mm, I've been arguing that this excessive deletion is not the way to fix this article. But that gets mainly personal and religious insults thrown at me. --pashtun ismailiyya 02:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've noticed that, good job! On the other hand, I've become the virtual face of Islamic heresy on Wikipedia. If you're Sunni, I'm behind Shi'a propaganda on Wikipedia. If you're ithna'Ashariyya Shi'a, well, as one user put it, "Please the Ismaili vandal is not shia he is Ismaili who vandalize both shia and sunni article to golrify the Ismaili faith". Once I had this user stalk me for a month reverting every edit I made. The only Muslim religious group on Wikipedia which hasn't expressed outright hatred of me are the Ahmadiyya, probably because we're in the same shoes. --pashtun ismailiyya 03:18, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Resurrection

[edit]

Sadly, the lock you initiated on the article "Resurrection" has preserved the 02:13, 7 April 2009 revision in the "Resurrection of Jesus" section which should not have been permitted to survive even as long as it did. This addition contains incomprehensible sentences, unsubstantiated and disputed claims and a patently false claim.

The false claim is that "[t]he word Easter is not from any accurate textual translaltion, as it was placed into the bible by the Roman government during their inaccuate translation concerning the resurrection."

The word "Easter" is used in the King James translation (exactly once), however in the Latin Vulgate the word used in this place is "pascha" (Passover) not Easter. But the KJV was issued by the Church of England and thus had absolutely nothing to do with the government in Rome. A small sample of popular English translations found no other versions using the word "Easter" in any verse.

Anyway, I hope that you (or anyone else) will excise the 02:13, 7 April 2009 addition as soon as the lock is removed if I forget about it (and I likely will). Hopefully my rant does not irritate you too much. I needed a release since I was denied the release of simply editing the offending passage away.

Some new editor has come to further bash me on Talk:Umar! About Pashtun

[edit]

"You may not agree with what Pashtun Ismailiyya is saying but I can assure you that she is working in good faith. Any editor that is not will, after a while, tend to get blocked and I see that she has not been blocked at all."

Hi Cambridge. You may believe that about her and of course it might be in a way true that she wasn't blocked before. However do consider that her user id is three months old and her User page shows she migrated from another deleted id. Additionally, if you check her user page you will find her contributions are ALWAYS around Shia beliefs and sectarian related articles, this is one of the few broad subjects she interfered with. But most importantly, her own admission in her note above at 03:18, 6 April 2009 that she is considered by almost everybody to be the voice of heresy. On what basis then are we supposed to take in her good faith? Most importantly, by what right does she insist on setting the rules and dictate who gets to improve or delete what and how?!
As far as Umar's page is concerned, the reverts were focused on a religious claim that is specific to her self-professed sect, she preferred to keep a statement of fact regarding her beliefs and a well-known false reference to other people's beliefs along with bad grammar, spelling mistakes, and a generally lower level article than to let the statements get represented as claims of her sect alone, which is the truth. Additionally she edited the sentences herself and added new baseless references that I now found out FOR SURE from friends who had the bookds that the reference does NOT EXIST. Moreover, later claimed she wasn't the one writing them. I have no doubt that she had no good faith in this matter and I'm not interested in disputing that. Writing and editing articles however will answer to the higher standards of the majority, and as you can see the majority is against her by her own admission. Like I repeatedly said, the stories believed by some Shia are there on the page, but noone will be allowed to manufacture a twisted statement that suggests legitimacy or validation from mainstream scholarly field.

Greater Los Angeles Template to become Los Angeles Area Template?

Hi there user Amerique and I are have a big discussion on wheather the Greater Los Angeles Template should become the Los Angeles-Orange County Area Template. I am for the move because the G. Arctic Cordillera again

[edit]

Saw your "not in Quebec" edit comment, though maybe I missed the context of what was taken out; the spine of the Torngats is the Labrador-Quebec border isn't it? Anyway as you previously noted the term "Arctic Cordillera" seems to have been invented by the Ecozones of Canada crew, I'm not sure there is a "proper geographic toponym" for the whole grouping. Nonetheless there seem to still be distinctions between the ecozone and the mountain range(s), though maybe those are just mapmakers glitches. My main issue is that this one article, out of several in the ecozone series, shouldn't be also in a mountain range category hierarchy if it's an ecozone definition. Ecoregion/ecozone folks are "into original research", like the way Boreal Cordillera and Montane Cordillera had been written as if the Rockies and the Cassiars the Selwyns didn't have proper names and only the ecozone name mattered; that was my problem with Arctic Rockies which is why I took it out. Invent a name as something like a slogan, then cite a page using that slogan in passing as if it were "sometimes used" when in fact it's not used by anyone else. Bascially a self-referential citation and I see way too many of them on ecozone/ecoregion pages. Like they're inventing a whole new geography, without any reference to the older one......they've even renamed the Canadian Shield and the Great Barrens, or created parallel/overlapping definitions using similar names. Talk about muddying the waters, sheesh....Skookum1 (talk) 14:40, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Jeans Wikipedia Page

[edit]

Hi,

I have made several edits to the Lee Jeans page, per the Lee company. I'm confused as to why my edits keep getting taken down. I'm in no way writing biased or incorrect information. I'm only trying to document additional information on the history of the company to better inform our customers.

Please let me know what exactly is wrong with the content/soures that I'm including. I would really like to add additional content and cannot understand why it's being taken down immediately.

I'd like to be informed of the issue, so that it can be resolved and you don't have to continue to monitor our site.

Thank you very much.

Bay infobox

[edit]

Hello CBW; hope the spring thaw is bringing some cheer your way. I was wondering if you've had any recent experience with the bay infobox? In the last few days, I've added it to almost all of the Nunavut bays and found an issue with "settlements" not showing up. It's not a problem for most of these articles as the bays are uninhabited, but for Resolute Bay, Frobisher Bay, etc. it'd be nice if the entered community name appeared in the infobox. I'll take the question to Wikiproject Geography if you aren't aware of a quick fix. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:51, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's typical springtime here: mild temp/sunny/cloudy/rainy/shades of green everywhere... lovely.
Thanks for solving the mystery: replace "settlements" with "cities"! And I agree the bay infobox I've been using (i.e. not {{infobox bay}} which is really "infobox lake") would benefit with expansion to include the infobox island parameters you suggested (province/state/region), plus some of the infobox lake parameters (max-depth, volume, shore, frozen, islands).
Oh yes, that Sadlermiut article sounds interesting! I'll keep an eye on uphere.ca in case the article gets added. If you ever see it elsewhere, such as a pdf link, would you let me know? Thanks!
Btw, the Resolute Bay#Mapping feature is an excellent addition. I'll start using it, too. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:54, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Thank you for your response, and I understand your concern. We're only trying to include additional information on the history of Lee to better serve our customers. We're citing outside resources. I believe I included three and are only including factual information. Can you please explain to me how this is different than the Levi Strauss & Co page? They have historical information that is surely added from their PR agency or internal people at Levi. I don't see how their information would be less biased than ours.

Would it help if someone from Lee Jeans (and not Barkley) uploaded information? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.81.240.241 (talk) 15:16, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop asserting that Winnipeg is the coldest city in the world with over 600,000 population. Simply becuase Environment Canada made the assertion does not make it true. Information in this format should be true not simply inserted because it is sourced whether it is true or not. It is even debatable whether or not EC has the credentials to be relied on as a professional weather agency. The article Umar I

[edit]

hi, the article that i was working on in my sandbox here [9] is almost complete, i had already told the users in the discussion forum about this work in progress [10], and they have been waiting for it to edit it and add some more info in it, although for some reasons it got late, but now is in its finishing states and will be completed in few days. The article Umar as you know is locked, it need to be unlock for this new and comprehensive article. So whats the procedure ? and is there any way to get rid of that User:Frank1829, he is violating all rules his attitude is childish and he pose a permanent threat to the quality of article by adding his bias shia views in the general views of the artcile, i had already told him that shia views, as they are actually views on religious status of Umar can be added in the section "shia views" as sunni views of Umar's religious status has been added ( in my version of the article ) in the seperate section "sunni views". But still he keep on making hue and cries and keep on threatening that he's gonna stay there and will do with article what he want !

  • If we call consensus, i fear it will be a waste of time, i really tried to conclude the issue by posting this post [11], by his reply [12] was really disappointing and it really pissed me off, though i avoid personally attacks but i fear i broke that rule in my recent response. So whats the solution in your opinion ? we really are in need of a third party.

[edit]

Hello CBW. Just a heads up on Talk:Umar, I have a feeling that one User:Marcus Dyer is a sockpuppet of User:Frank1829. There's a few indicators, but the most convincing factor is the novel and quite strange appeal he makes re: the Arab league which was first forwarded on the page 30 mins prior by Frank1829. Also claims of racism and general tone similarities between the two. ITAQALLAH 02:08, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

weather.com

[edit]

Like mikevegas, I once ran a small weather data site and in order to so I had to download all of the original source data from the GHCN database as well as a few other smaller ones from around the world. This website is no longer online. However, the experience of running the website gained me the ability to tell good climate data from bad, and I am of the opinion that much of the data on weather.com is bad, in most cases likely because of errors made by whichever employees were assigned the task of copying it over from the various sources. I can do my best to demonstrate this if you are interested. I have always been interested in improving the data on Wikipedia by sourcing it directly to a reliable source such as NOAA, but since the data on NOAA is not organized in a user-friendly manner, I have never dared to even begin for fear that my edits would be reverted. I'm posting here to ask you if you think it would be a worthwhile effort to pursue this endeavor nonetheless and if so how best to go about seeking approval. Soap Talk/Contributions 20:32, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Replying to your comment on my talk page: thank you for the quick response. I realize that with me jumping into the middle of this discussion and having no history editing Wikipedia articles about climate, some people may think I am just trying to replace one COI with another and that I might be affiliated with weatherbase.com or some such thing. I assure you this is not so. I really don't think linking from Wikipedia would generate much ad revenue anyway since the person browsing the article has already seen the data and isn't likely to ever browse to the weather site unless they want more data. Anyway, regarding the $20 dataset that NOAA seems to be selling, I say go for it, but be aware of the disclaimer: The data are provided in large files with a fixed length record format. They can be read by software written by the user according to the format specifications outlined in the documentation files. The data files may also be opened by any ASCII-compatible application that can handle large data volumes. I suspect this is the same dataset I was able to obtain for free about a decade ago, and consists of many extremely large (>30MB) text files without so much as line breaks to simplify reading. As they say, if you want to use this data, you'd probably have to write a program yourself just to read it. When I was building my website I decided to open each data file in a Unix terminal window and manually adjust the terminal width to get the info to line up properly. Moreover, the data is entirely in Fahrenheit even for non-US cities, and no conversion is provided. It's possible, however, that they've touched things up a bit since then and that's why they've put a price tag on the data now. Soap Talk/Contributions 02:44, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You had a template loop on User:CambridgeBayWeather/Sandbox. The thing is that you can't call a page on itself. I neutralsed it. Then I tested your template on the Wikipedia:Sandbox and it works nicely. Good luck. Debresser (talk) 13:53, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CambridgeBayWeather, can you tell me if there is any need of making improvements to the Emirates Airline article? (MoHasanie (talk) 15:23, 7 June 2009 (UTC)).[reply]

CambridgeBayWeather, I have gotten rid of 4 kilobytes of unsourced information, and information that was not that important, bu the article still seems a bit too long. I would like to create a new article for the Rivalry section and also the Busines Model ection, but i do not know what to call it. (MoHasanie (talk) 13:37, 8 June 2009 (UTC)).[reply]

Hi Alan. Thanks for the message. Something is weird here. I spent a lot of time writing this section from various sources. I know the rules. This website has obviously copied their text from Wikipedia. I have never, ever copied/pasted material from any source. BCtalk to me 01:27, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK no problems. I figured that it was just a mistake as the licence on the Government web sites can be unclear. I'll contact the webmaster when I get home and have email access and see what they say. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 01:37, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if they will even remember what their sources were. I've kept all my original sources/links and copies of the actual articles I used for my major edits to CFB Edmonton and most other WP articles I've been involved with (and http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/cfb_edmonton/history.html web site was definitely not one of them). I suspect this kind of problem is going to crop up more and more as Wikipedia gets older and more and more Wikipedia articles are being used on other web sites. It's certainly nice that someone likes my writing well enough to lift it and place it on their web site - a government one no less. I would like to replace my edits though, since the edits were originally mine. Cheers. BCtalk to me 02:39, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi; re our previous discussions at Talk:List of Indian Reserves in Canada, the parallel/newer and now veruy long discussion at WPCANTALK's noticeboard and "Indian Reserve" is now on the WPCANTALK discussion page, nad it's long and involved and full of time-consuming details; I won't reprise it here but mentioned your points about governance and land-incorporation in the Territories and figured might as well drag you into the discussion, if you'd care to - Wikipedia_talk:Canadian_Wikipedians'_notice_board#Indian_reserve_and_capitalization; you can probably only read the last third or half rather than the whole thing if you want...or even the last eighth, there was a lot of going in circles...and as always when I'm involved, lots of tangents.... ;-).....Skookum1 (talk) 12:43, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I heard on NPR the other day that the H1N1 outbreak was especially bad in Nunavut. Yeah, my sister is just flying back home from a month-long medical stint in Cambay, sounds like it's hitting Kitikmeot pretty hard (and Kivalliq, according to the CBC) Babies being medevac'ed and everything. The bigger worry seems to be what will happen next fall. Hope all is well, remember to eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables to stay healthy (oh wait... :( ) As an alternative, try to age rapidly, it looks like those aged mid-40's and above may have already been exposed to a similar virus and have acquired immunity. Take care and have a good night! Oh wait, you don't actually have nights either right at the moment. ;) Franamax (talk) 03:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys, we seem to be OK here for now. It's kind of odd in that there appear to be no cases in the Qikiqtaaluk Region and I would have thought that Iqaluit would have seen some, [14]. The number of MEDIVACs hasn't been too bad, most of them originate from here with Adlair Aviation, but of course if they were in the day time then the patient could have been sent on a regular sked flight. Eat fresh stuff eh? I would if I had his money, milk at $7.49 and apples the same. Going to the health centre right now is interesting. They stop you at the door and ask a bunch of questions, are you coughing, have you been to Mexico, etc. Then you have to use hand sanitizer and if you are coughing they give you a mask. 142.161.157.40 thinks I'm a bad person

[edit]

I just simply can't believe that you are a meteorologist. You don't even understand the concept of average annual temperature. Having read over your talk page it seems that some of your edits are of a very dubious nature; in fact you have been accused of vandalism a couple of times. Please do not continue to downgrade the quality of Wikipedia. Many people have spent considerable amounts of time to try to improve this valuable source of information. What makes you think that it is acceptable for you to come along and destroy their work for no reason? Don't bother deleting this comment either. Leave it for others to see. I'll be watching what you're up to with your edits. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.161.157.40 (talk) 19:10, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you think the comments currently visible here look bad try reading through some of the archived pages. You'll see that I'm much worse than you could even imagine. Just curious but was the last sentence supposed to be some sort of intimidation tactic? If so it's not going to work. I just ignore stuff like that. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 20:23, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What are you stupid, or is your brain just frozen? Obviously the sentence means exactly what it says. I'll be watching what you're doing because I believe that you practice vandalism on a regular basis (as do others, according to your own talk page) and I've already reverted two of your edits. You're going around deleting statements which are sourced just because you don't happen to like them, and I caught you deleting commentary from a discussion page. You have no business doing those things. Leave well enough alone. This is an encyclopedia, and it is for the benefit of the general public. It is not your own fictional novel. --142.161.178.139 (talk) 02:25, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You really need to provide differences as to my vandalism, removing sourced statements and deleting valid comments from talk pages. Making vague statments isn't helpful. Also if you really think I'm vandalising then I suggest that you report it. But again rather than just making statements please remember to provide links and differences where I have done this. Thanks. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 09:34, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

[edit]

Hey i'm just wondering whats it like to live all the why up in Cambridge Bay. The closest i have ever been was Yellowknife and it was in the middle of summer in the low 30's. Don't you miss the long hot summer days? And i have always wondered this to, do you get thunderstorms up there. Kyle1278 21:18, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cool i would love to go up to Cambridge Bay one year always wanted to go farther north. The only people that have been up that far north is my dad (he was up to Clyde River), and my grandpa and he was past the Distant Early Warning Line he worked on it. And a quick message to the IP temperature dose not really bother me i just like to go anywhere around the world i love to travel, and i live in Edmonton so i have seen my fare share of winter weather, taken it dose get a tad cooler in Cambridge Bay. --Kyle1278 03:50, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've never been to Clyde but my daughter went and she liked the place. As I said, we get one or two thunderstorms a year but not major ones like you see down south. The mosquitos are bad, that's true, and almost any place up here and also for places down south where they need to use control methods, but most people seem to be able to manage. Of course the amount of mosquitos depends on the amount of standing water and I'm lucky as the part of town I live in is dry so I don't have much problem but other parts especially on the edge of town do have a lot. Yep, prices in the north are high, again that's pretty much true anywhere you go in the Canadian Arctic that doesn't have road access. We do better than some of the smaller communites due to us being larger and having better airline services. Kugaaruk, Nunavut used to be one of the worst places for prices because the ice would not permit summer shipping but global warming and food mail has helped. There are, as the IP points out, no trees and of course that's true of anywhere above the tree line. But like others I find that the unobstructed views are one of the best things and don't enjoy the way the trees block them. It's one of those things, each person has different likes and dislikes. Of course it is cooler here overall than down south, as is the rest of the Arctic, but I recall that Edmonton can get some cold weather as well. One thing to remember is that many places in southern Canada can get temperatures that are almost as cold as here. There can even be cold spells that last for a week where you get Arctic type temperatures in Edmonton. A few years ago I went to Edmonton in February and had several days at -35 C while the temperatures at home where -25 C to -30 C. Of course another year I leave home, again in February which was at -40 C, and arrive in Edmonton on the same day and find the temperature to be +15 C. That was so long ago that we didn't have Internet to check the weather and just figured that the temperatures would be normal, mailed my parka home the next day. Do I think the place is horrid, of course not but others do and that's fine with me. Many people can't take living in the Arctic for one reason or another but then again there are many who do.Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 09:34, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've been to Cambridge Bay and it is an absolutely horrid place. You must have lucked out in Yellowknife because temps in the 30's there are somewhat unusual. In Cambridge Bay the average July maximum in just 12°C and eleven months of the year have daily maximums under 10° and six months have daily maximums below -15°C. During the very short summer the mosquitos are so bad that it is next to impossible to go outside. Thunderstorms are possible but do not occur with any frequency. There is absolutely not one tree. Everything costs triple what it would elsewhere. I couldn't wait to leave and would never return. There are many beautiful places in the Canadian Arctic, particularly the Western Arctic, but Cambridge Bay is most definitely not one of them. --142.161.178.139 (talk) 02:35, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who am I supposed to reply to, Braincomputerguy (talk · contribs) or one of the IP's? I reply here and on my talk page. I removed it because the section in question is unsourced, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability. There is the question of relevence to the topic, see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Relevance of content. There is Wikipedia:Consensus which, based on the fact that at least one, two and three other editors besides myself have removed the material, is not with you. Finally there is Wikipedia:Notability, which generally applies to articles, but to a certain extent applies to material in the article. In other words why is that section notable compared to any other lawsuit brought against the RCMP given the fact that at this time it has not been heard in court. Thanks. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 09:01, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, the RCMP are defendants in this lawsuit...if you need a source why don't you call the Nanaimo Supreme Court Registry to verify this fact...this is a fact, it is true and valid for the RCMP wiki and should not be deleted....this conduct is being carried out by the RCMP and there is a growing amount of evidence against them...why would you feel it neccasary to remove this when the RCMP themselves being police officers and fully aware of this information being on here not remove it themselves? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Braincomputerguy (talkcontribs) 12:57, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ok cambridgebayweather, why do you feel that you have the right to take this information off the wiki...when the information is true and if you want why don't you just feel free to call the nanaimo supreme court you'll find their phone number on the internet and ask them if the rcmp are listed as defendants in lawsuit S55166...I have every right to put this info on the sight so if you don't mind can you leave it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Braincomputerguy (talkcontribs) 16:23, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Roche was a poet not an unsignificant sportsman. The name Paul Roche can't be associated to him

[edit]

Donscalos

[edit]

I've posted an article yesterday about Paul Roche The man died in 2007 and was a very important Poet and writer, translated classic Greek tragedies that had never been before. Not to mention that he was part of one of the most important art group in England in the 20th century. He's a published author and still after his death has lot of followers and fans. Yesterday I tried to replace an article and it is just unfair that it was deleted. Paul Roche (the writer poet) is mentioned as a reference in several articles on Wikipedia but the results of that research is Paul Roche, young sportsman from Ireland with a text as small as his success and importance in the world.

This isn't great and makes the content on several articles irrelevant( Like the one about Duncan Grant). Also it is morally important to bring up the most important information first in an encyclopedia. If my cat was called Barrack Obama and had killed 50 mice I wonder if it would be great to have "Barrack hussein Obama president of the United States of America since 2009" as research keywords because my puss would be taking the space. Well it's a about the same thing Between Paul Roche, an amazing Poet, an acclaimed published writer who wrote a movie script "Oedipus the King" where Orson Welles played and an unknown young man from deep deep Ireland who won a few competition at an obscure sport in his local villages. I don't think the one that comes up first should be the sportsman. Also the content of his article is very poor like his career that still really hasn't taken off. I think Wikipedia should be culture orientated and not become a blogging platform for anyone who fancy's himself as part of an encyclopedia. Even if I might post this article in several blogs :)

Also, as an answer to your comment I wanted to say that the author of this article gave me full rights to publish her text. She actually wrote it for the telegraph not the opposite. She's a writer herself. There's no right violation and I can prove it.

My questions are. How do I make sure that this article won't be deleted after 5 minutes again and could we ask the sportsman to add "Paul Roche Hurling player" ? since his tiny career in hurling is not very important compared to the other Paul Roche's achievements over 91 years and that the nice article I'm trying to post might be important for lot of students in literature and classics. Also everytime someone will mention the important Paul Roche (people are unlikely to write in an article Paul Donald Roche (poet)) on Wikipedia he will find that unimportant person instead. It will be a bad thing for culture I think. I won't let go about this one, it just doesn't make any sense.

Article written by that person that she GAVE to the telegraph [15]

Article about Paul Roche the writer

[edit]

Thanks a lot for Paul Roche

[edit]

I really appreciate! I think that I'll just rewrite this article. I think that the process of proving that my friend wrote the article and that the telegraph used it and changed it won't go very well down the wikipedia help desk. My main concern is to be able to post a proper biography about Paul Roche and maybe mention some of his work as references. If he can be found under Paul Roche that is since he's mentioned in quit a few articles as well as on Internet.

It's my main focus. I didn't mean to be rude overwriting things, I hadn't quit got how all of this works and got kind of frustrated by the whole situation. I've now posted a request on Paul Roche talk page so the sportsman can be mentioned as Paul Roche (hurler) which would totally make sense.

I'll try to do this right now. Thanks a million for your help, Pascal

I move the talk page back to the user space (since it was mostly warning templates), I am not sure which account is actually the editor. Anyway I redirected User:Paul David Wilson to User talk:Paul David Wilson rather than to the article, and redirected User:Pauldavidwilson to User talk:Pauldavidwilson for the same reason. It is all very confusing and is making my head hurt. If you have any thoughts I would appreciate it. Cheers. --kelapstick (talk) 15:39, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
