Mynydd Machen

Mynydd Machen (Machen Mountain) is a beautiful backdrop to the quaint country villages of neighboring Bedwas, Trethomas, and Machen. The mountain is littered with large boulders that can be explained through local folklore. Saint Peter, who was protecting the village, saw the devil and picked up the large boulders, putting them in his apron. As the devil paused to catch his breath atop Mynydd Machen, Saint Peter hurled the boulders at him, leaving them upon the mountainside; they’re now known as the Devil’s Apron Strings.^[1]
