He gained prominence in the South Asian music industry through collaborations with leading artists such as Talha Anjum, Talhah Yunus, Hasan Raheem, and others. Umair’s innovative production style, blending contemporary hip-hop with traditional influences, has made him a significant figure in Pakistan’s music scene.

Early Life and Education

Umair was born into a middle-class joint family in Karachi, Pakistan. His grandmother, Parveen Naz, fondly remembers him as an adorable baby. His mother, Shabana Tahir, often credits Umair’s creative flair, particularly his early sketches, as pivotal moments in his own academic journey. Recognizing Umair’s interest in technology, his father, Tahir Mushtaq, gifted him a computer, which Umair began to explore fervently. Unbeknownst to his family, Umair spent countless hours crafting beats and experimenting with music production.

At the age of 13, Umair started creating beats in his bedroom. Influenced by house music and artists such as Mike Dean, WondaGurl, Metro Boomin, Travis Scott, and Martin Garrix, he began to develop his distinct style. Ambitious from a young age, Umair shared in an interview with Spotify Radar that he sold his first beat for just 1,000 rupees.

Career

Umair’s foray into music production began with house music in 2016. His breakthrough came in 2019 when he produced his debut hip-hop single, Asli Hai, with the Young Stunners. The song’s success, peaking at #1 on YouTube charts across the Pakistan, fueled his passion and set the stage for further collaborations.

Reaching out persistently to Talhah Yunus, Umair eventually secured a partnership with the Young Stunners by sending his beats via messages. Talhah Yunus remarked on the exceptional quality of Umair’s early work. From this point forward, Umair established himself as a sought-after producer, collaborating with notable artists such as Shamoon Ismail, Faris Shafi, Aleemrk, Raftaar, Seedhe Maut, Prabh Deep, and JJ47. Umair has referred to Talhah Yunus, Talha Anjum, Jhokay Bhai, and JJ47 as the main characters in his life and career, recognizing their pivotal roles in his journey.

In 2024, Umair released his debut album, Rockstar Without a Guitar. The project featured cross-border collaborations with artists from India and Pakistan, including Natasha Noorani, KR$NA, and Calm. This album, praised for its experimental sounds and themes of self-discovery and ambition, cemented Umair’s reputation as an innovative producer.

Umair’s ability to bridge borders was evident in his collaborations, such as Raftaar with Faris Shafi and Calm with Talha Anjum. His motto, “Laga Reh” (Keep at it), reflects his relentless drive to grow and innovate within the music industry.
