Team Vyadh

Team Vyadh is a student-run engineering team from Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, India. The team derives its name from the Sanskrit word "Vyadh," meaning "hunter" or "slayer," symbolizing precision and perseverance. Headquartered at VIT Vellore, Team Vyadh focuses on the design and development of rovers capable of navigating and performing tasks in challenging environments, akin to those found on Mars. The team’s multidisciplinary efforts include mechanical engineering, electronics, and software integration, with the goal of creating autonomous rovers capable of operating in harsh and rugged terrains.

History

Team Vyadh, established in 2015 at Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, has become a hub for developing and testing rover prototypes and has participated in different international and national rover competitions all across the world. Notable competitions include the European Rover Challenge (ERC), University Rover Challenge (URC), Anatolian Rover Challenge (ARC), International Rover Challenge (IRC), and International Rover Design Challenge (IRDC). Vyadh’s latest rover, DREAM 2.0, was recently selected for the Anatolian Rover Challenge held in Istanbul, Turkey.

• Secured 19th place globally in the International Rover Challenge (IRC) 2024.
• Achieved 13th place worldwide in the International Rover Design Challenge (IRDC) 2023.
• Secured 9th place in the International Rover Design Challenge (IRDC) 2021.
• Qualified for Anatolian Rover Challenge (ARC) 2024 Finals.
• Qualified for University Rover Challenge (URC) 2020 Finals.

Team Structure

Team Vyadh holds an annual recruitment procedure exclusively for students of VIT,Vellore allowing those interested in space exploration to join the team. This procedure allows students to select the department that best matches their interests. The team is divided into five key departments: mechanical, electrical, autonomous, ground control station, Internal Affairs, external Affairs, Robotic arm, and astrobiology, with each playing a part in the design, development, and operation of the team's rover projects. Within the Software department, there are additional subdivisions, such as the Ground Control Station team and the Autonomous team, which work on specific aspects of rover operation.

Since its inception, Team Vyadh has received sponsorship from a range of organizations that have contributed to its success in developing autonomous rovers and engineering projects. Key sponsors include SolidWorks, which provides 3D CAD design tools and product data management (PDM) systems, and Dassault Systèmes. Other sponsors include PCBWay, a specialist in PCB prototyping and manufacturing; Ansys, known for its engineering simulation software; Altium, a provider of PCB design tools; and Protocase, which offers custom enclosures and components for prototypes and low-volume production.
