Dr. iur. Alexander Lindemann (born 1970) is a Swiss lawyer and tax adviser, recognized for his expertise in investment management and private funds. He is the founding partner of LINDEMANNLAW, a boutique law firm based in Zürich, Switzerland.[1] Lindemann gained recognition both within professional circles for his publications on tax and investment[2] and among the broader public through his commentary on financial and economic news, particularly in connection with the activities of major Swiss banks such as Credit Suisse[3] and UBS.[4]

Education and Early Career

Alexander Lindemann grew up in Munich, Germany, and pursued his legal studies at the University of Bayreuth and the Julius-Maximilian University of Würzburg. He furthered his education at the Washington & Lee University School of Law in Virginia, USA. Following his studies, Lindemann held significant positions at prominent institutions, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Credit Suisse, and Clifford Chance.[1]

In September 2011, Alexander Lindemann founded LINDEMANNLAW in Zollikerberg, Switzerland. The firm specializes in legal, regulatory, and tax matters, advising investment funds, asset managers, private clients, investors, and banks. It operates across multiple jurisdictions, including Switzerland, Luxembourg, Malta, Liechtenstein, and the Cayman Islands. Under Lindemann's leadership, the firm has expanded its services and team, relocating to Zürich's city center in 2021 to accommodate growth.[5] His firm supports large-scale investments and transactions such as M&A that require resort to blockchain or escrow services.[6] Under the guidance of Lindemann, LINDEMANNLAW developed a human rights benchmarking framework used to evaluate court decisions to assess the consistency and transparency of human rights application in various jurisdictions.[7]

Professional Roles and Contributions

Beyond his role at LINDEMANNLAW, Lindemann serves on the boards of a listed alternative fund and a real estate fund. He has also been a board member of a pension fund for several years. In 2019, the founder of Lindemannlaw elaborated on the legislative initiative spearheaded by Swiss politician Ruedi Noser to revise the Swiss Collective Investment Schemes Act (KAG).[8] In 2022, Lindemann organized a Swiss Business Delegation to Central Asia.[9] This was done in collaboration with the Joint Chamber of Commerce, an organization described by the Swiss government as the Swiss bridge to CIS Countries.[10]

Swiss Capital Markets Forum

Together with like-minded colleagues, Lindemann founded the Swiss Capital Market Forum, a platform dedicated to discussions and developments in the Swiss capital markets.[11] For a decade since the foundation of the Swiss Capital Market Forum, events personally headed or organized on the initiative of Alexander Lindemann have attracted more than 1,500 participants from the legal, governmental and business communities.[12] As President of the Swiss Capital Market Forum,[11] Alexander Lindemann frequently speaks and publishes on capital market and tax issues.[1]

Lindemann's contributions to the legal field have earned him several accolades:

  • Who's Who Legal: Recognized as a leading lawyer in Investment Management/Private Funds in Switzerland for 2019 and 2020.
  • Client Choice Award: Honored in 2020 for Investment Management.
  • Corporate INTL's Global Awards 2023: Named Investment Management Advisor of the Year and Tax Advisor of the Year in Switzerland.
  • Global Advisory Experts Awards 2023 and 2024: Awarded Tax Advisor of the Year and Investment Management Advisor of the Year in Switzerland.[1]

Alexander Lindemann is married and has five children. He is fluent in German and English, with proficiency in Spanish, French, and basic skills in Russian.[1]
