Lindemannlaw
Lindemannlaw stylized as LINDEMANNLAW,[1] established in September 2011 by Dr. iur. Alexander Lindemann,[2][3][4][5] is a law firm headquartered in Zürich, Switzerland. The firm was approached by the Swiss media to comment on asset and wealth management law,[6] where it primarily operates, and recently on the Acquisition of Credit Suisse by UBS.[7][8] It focuses on providing legal, tax, and business intelligence services to wealth managers, asset managers, and entrepreneurs. LINDEMANNLAW is involved in the structuring and execution of international investment fund solutions across multiple jurisdictions, including Luxembourg, Malta, Liechtenstein, and the Cayman Islands.[9]
History
[edit]Dr. iur. Alexander Lindemann founded LINDEMANNLAW in his garage in Zollikerberg in September 2011.[10] Early clients included financial institutions such as investor services banks and Credit Suisse, however, the founder of the firm received media attention when represented private clients against this institution.[11] The firm expanded to Seefeld in 2013 with a team of five legal professionals. The firm was again in professional media when it onboarded another partner in 2020.[12][13] Later it moved to a larger office in the Zurich City Centre in 2021, expanding the partnership[14] and accommodating 20 lawyers and staff. In 2024, LINDEMANNLAW transitioned from a limited partnership to a corporation (Aktiengesellschaft).[15]

[edit]The firm provides a range of services to Swiss and international clients, including:

International initiatives
[edit]The firm has actively participated in international initiatives, such as organizing a Swiss business mission to Uzbekistan[30] together with the Joint Chamber of Commerce (JCC) for Switzerland, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and South Caucasus.[31] LINDEMANNLAW also founded the Swiss Capital Market Forum[32] and established a specialized Kazakh desk to foster cooperation in the Central Asian oil and gas industry.[3]
Team
[edit]The current team includes Dr. iur. Alexander Lindemann, the managing partner, alongside 27 members as partners and senior associates[33] specializing in various aspects of law and business management.[34]
Discussion
[edit]An article concerning the automatic exchange of tax information (AIA)[35] in Switzerland and its impact on client rights and privacy led to debates over the fairness of this protection being extended to trust settlers who have renounced their economic rights to the trust assets. Another point of debate was the misconception about an AIA agreement between Switzerland and the USA, with the clarification that the U.S. does not participate in AIA due to the FATCA agreement, which is considered equivalent.
In 2019 Lindemannlaw founder explained the legislative initiative for revising the Swiss Collective Investment Schemes Act (KAG) led by Swiss politician Ruedi Noser. The proposal aimed to introduce a more liberal regulatory framework for Limited Qualified Investor Funds (L-QIFs). This change sought to streamline approval requirements for alternative investment funds, aiming to enhance Switzerland's competitiveness in the financial sector. The goal was to allow these funds to be overseen by fund managers themselves (who are personally subject to stringent regulation) rather than requiring approval from state financial regulators like FINMA, potentially speeding up the process for asset managers.[36]
