American Library Association. Pura Belpre Award. , March 24, 2021, https://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/belpre.[1]

  • This website provides a description of the Pura Belpre Award, when and why it was created, and then lists winners of this award. I plan to use this to help strengthen the list in the notable works and influential authors sections and also talk about the creation of this award in the history section.

Barry, Arlene L. "Hispanic Representation in Literature for Children and Young Adults." Journal of adolescent & adult literacy, vol. 41, no. 8, 1998, pp. 630-637. ERIC, https://www.jstor.org/stable/40016960.[2]

  • This article discusses the lack of representation for hispanic people in YA literature and offers reasons for this lack of representation as well as solutions to the problem. The article talks about traditional and stylistic themes in Latino literature which is useful for the Themes and Style section. It also mentions the lack of Puerto Rican children’s literature in the U.S. which I hope to be able to integrate into the article but is not a priority.

Consortium of Latin American Studies Programs. Americas Award. , 2021, http://www.claspprograms.org/americasaward.[3]

  • This page describes the origin of the Americas award and lists the winners of the award. This and the Belpre award are extremely influential in terms of Latino children’s literature. I hope to draw on this website for the Notable Works and Influential Authors section.

Cooperative Center for Children's Books at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Books by and/or about Black, Indigenous and People of Color (All Years). , April 6, 2022, https://ccbc.education.wisc.edu/literature-resources/ccbc-diversity-statistics/books-by-about-poc-fnn/.[4]

  • This is referenced as a source of data for many of the sources I read and we had also previously looked at this in class. I plan to use this as part of the History section to demonstrate the growth in Latino children’s literature.

Cullinan, Bernice E., and Diane G. Person. The Continuum encyclopedia of children's literature. Continuum, 2005.[5]

  • Here I reference the Latino Children’s Literature section of the encyclopedia which offers a brief history and also names influential authors and works. This will be most useful in my History section but I also think I can pull on the list of influential authors.

Delgado, Priscilla K. "Windows and Mirrors in Latino Children’s Literature: A History and Analysis of the Latino Cultural Experience."The Reading Professor, vol. 43, no. 1, https://scholar.stjohns.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1116&context=thereadingprofessor.[6]

  • This article gives a much more detailed history of Latino children’s literature and identifies key themes. I hope to use this information in the History and Themes section of my article.

Lugo, Sujei. Clark, Ellen Riojas, Belinda Bustes Flores, Howard L. Smith, & Daniel Alejandro Gonzalez. Multicultural Literature for Latino Bilingual Children: Their Words. Their Worlds. vol. 62, Library Journals, LLC, 2016.[7]

  • Explores many facets of Latino children’s literature including immigration experience, identity-building, and bilingualism. I think the role of immigration and the bilingual experience will be useful for the Themes section.

Naidoo, Jamie C., and Sarah P. Dahlen. Diversity in youth literature : opening doors through reading. American Library Association, 2013.[8]

  • This is a book I checked out from Lau with multiple chapters on Latino children’s literature that covers history, themes and notable figures explored in Latino children’s literature. I hope to add this to my History and Themes sections.

Wolf, Shelby A., and Shelby A. Wolf. Handbook of research on children's and young adult literature. Routledge, 2011, doi:10.4324/9780203843543.[9]

  • This covers a lot of research on Latino children’s literature in the classroom as teaching tools. I find it most useful in its description of writing style and its mention of Puerto Rican/ DiaspoRican scholars.

Zipes, Jack. The Oxford encyclopedia of children's literature. Oxford University Press, 2006.[10]

  • Provides another brief but helpful history of Latino children’s literature. The description of influential bilingual authors and the history section can be helpful for the History and Influential Authors section.
