Template talk:Infobox Six Nations Championship
This template needs fixing so that the flag does not show up when Ireland are named in the Champions or Runners-up parameters. – PeeJay 14:16, 25 March 2009 (UTC)
Matches played?
[edit]Does the "matches played" parameter mean "in total" (which, given this is a Round-robin tournament with 6 teams , must be 15) or "so far"? This seems, without documentation, to be a pointless parameter and infobox entry. Tonywalton Talk 01:52, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- It means matches played so far. It allows the average attendance at each match in the tournament to be calculated. – PeeJay 19:50, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps some documentation's needed, then, as 2010 Six Nations Championship currently has "Matches played: 15".

If you could write some documentation for the template, that would be extremely helpful. – PeeJay 00:44, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- That's why I wasn't sure if it meant "in total" or "to date". I get scared when I see
esoteric
on a template! Can I suggest the rubric reads "Matches played so far" or "...to date", as just "Matches played" appears ambiguous? Tonywalton Talk 00:49, 10 February 2010 (UTC) - I'll put together a doc page for this (but as it appears creating a template doc isn't trivial this may appear tomorrow). Cheers, Tonywalton Talk 00:59, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

←User:Tonywalton/Template:Infobox Six Nations Championship/doc is my attempt. A couple of things escape me (as I say, "esoteric template syntax" tends to mean "beyond Tony", so I'm probably just missing something). Firstly, what's the "logo" parm do? I've attempted to add an image but I either get an image with markup, so or just markup. Secondly, it seems inconsistent that the "nations" parm needs ru
-wrapped team names (WAL
, IRE
and so on) while the "champion" and "runnerup" accept "Wales" or "England" as plain text and the template does the clever stuff. Oh, and thirdly, should the infobox draw a distinction between "champion" and "Grand Slam champion" in some way? Regards, Tonywalton Talk 16:24, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- Personally, I would say that the "logo" parameter is useless, seeing as the Six Nations logo is the same every year (i.e. there are no logos for specific championships). However, if we choose to keep it as a way of adding an iconic image from that season's competition, for example, I think that is done by simply putting the filename in the parameter, e.g. FileName.jpg, instead of . The reason that the "nations" parameter requires individual ru templates is that there may be any number of different teams in each year's tournament. I mean, this infobox is supposed to be used for Home Nations and Five Nations Championships as well as Six Nations, so this is the simplest way of creating a delimited list of the countries involved. And since it has been the case that more than one team has been the tournament champions in previous years, I suggest that the "champion" and "runnerup" parameters be changed to match the "nations" parameter. Finally, I don't think there's any need to have separate parameters for "champion" and "Grand Slam champion". If a team wins the Grand Slam or Triple Crown on the way to the title, then we should simply put "(Grand Slam)" or "(Triple Crown)" after the team name in the "champion" parameter. – PeeJay 22:28, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- So as regards documentation the "logo" parameter might be marked "deprecated" (and I've tried with all sorts of combinations of , Foo.png, and ; I suspect "doesn't actually work" might be more accurate!)
- I agree accepting a wrapper for the "champions" and "runnerup" would make sense (I say "accepting" as the template's quite happy with plain text as a "nations" entry - it's displayed as plain text - or with a wrapped entry, but it breaks quite interestingly if you don't use plain text as a "champion" or "runnerup").
- Agreed there's no need to have an actual parameter for "Grand Slam" (or not), but will the template be happy with "Grand Slam" in the "champion" parameter ("Wales (Grand Slam)", for instance) or will the clever stuff that generates flagicons and links to team articles given plain text go totally doolally (look for a nation called "Wales Grand Slam" or something)? Perhaps this template is a bit too esoteric ☺ Tonywalton Talk 01:00, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Player of the Championship
[edit]I think this infobox needs a field for the Player of the Championship award. I was trying to think of a place to add this year's winner to the 2011 Six Nations Championship article, but I couldn't find one. IMO, the infobox would be the perfect place for that. – PeeJay 13:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
Single match trophies
[edit]Do we really need all this detail re single match trophies like the Calcutta Cup in the infobox? --Bcp67 (talk) 05:51, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
