- ... that baseball humorist Charles Dryden dubbed the 1906 Chicago White Sox the "Hitless Wonders" and once wrote of rookie pitcher Gene Krapp, "Krapp squeezed his way out of a tight hole"?

- I've been meaning to review this for a while. Article: Length and date are fine, AGF on offline references. Hook: the reason I've been wanting to review this. Hook length and interest are fine, AGF on offline reference. I have an ALT to suggest though.
- ALT1:... that baseball humorist Charles Dryden wrote that "Krapp squeezed his way out of a tight hole" in a 1906 Chicago White Sox game?
- After nominator weighs in on the ALT, I'll be happy to approve. Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:46, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
- Either is ok with me. My only concern is with wikilinking to Gene Krapp. It's not a well-developed article, and it will likely get way more hits than Dryden. Cbl62 (talk) 15:18, 14 August 2011 (UTC)
- Nice article, rich in possibilities for DYK hooks. I'm not partial to ALT1, as it requires a bit of thinking to be amused by, and I agree with Cbl62 that many readers of that hook would be more interested in Krapp than Dryden. I'd like to suggest a hook that would entice me to read the article -- because the epithets are familiar to me and I'd be curious to read about the man who coined them:
- ALT2: ... that baseball humorist Charles Dryden dubbed the 1906 White Sox the "Hitless Wonders" and said of the 1909 Senators: "Washington – first in war, first in peace and last in the American League." --Orlady (talk) 02:06, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- ALT2 is nice too. Crisco 1492 (talk) 03:21, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
