Mini-camp numbers

[edit]

There are multiple players wearing the same numbers in mini-camp. This DOES NOT make it their official number as a member of the Cleveland Browns. Brett Ratlif is still the official holder of the #5 jersey. Until he either agrees to change his number or gets cut from the roster, it is his number and NOT rookie Joe Haden's. This constant changing of the Browns roster template must stop. Any more of this will be considered vandalism and will be dealt with according to the rules established by Wikipedia. Johnny "Seoul" Factor (talk) 15:53, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NFL rules state that multiple #s are allowed until the regular season. It CAN be his official # until the regular season. If you think adding information based on reliable sources is vandalism, well that's your problem. RevanFan (talk) 15:57, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Then it isn't their official number. The Official Cleveland Browns numbers are listed here: Cleveland Browns Player Roster. If Joe Haden isn't listed as #5 on their official website, then it CAN NOT be listed in the Wiki Template. That, is the official "reliable source". Johnny "Seoul" Factor (talk) 16:10, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If it is seen in mini camp photos or confirmed by another reliable source, it can be added. RevanFan (talk) 16:23, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No it can not. Why do you think you have authority over the Cleveland Browns Player Roster? Now, if you want to add a separate Mini-Camp roster template, then that is fine. However, when it comes to their official 2010 roster which goes into the main template, we must go by their roster as stated on their official website. The Cleveland Browns are the ones that will make this decision, end of discussion. Johnny "Seoul" Factor (talk) 16:30, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Geez! What the heck! Would you ever think of looking at this:

Cleveland Browns Player Roster ...that is where we are to get are information from. For example, Kellen Winslow wore #11 during mini-camp, but his official number was #80. Therefore, if one had #11 on the template, they would be wrong because #11 never showed up on their official roster. Look, I appreciate people getting anxious and wanting to add information as soon as possible, but we all must respect a team's official information before we attempt to add any information on Wikipedia. The Kellen Winslow example is a perfect example of why we cannot go off of mini-camp photos alone. Thank you. Johnny "Seoul" Factor (talk) 16:36, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The roster page is almost never updated. Trust me. One time it took months to add numbers that many people already knew. RevanFan (talk) 16:37, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Again, the Kellen Winslow example is why we cannot do this. Additional note: Even though Colt McCoy will probably end up wearing #12, Montario Hardesty will probably end up wearing #31, and etc...we must resist the temptation to add these numbers until the Cleveland Browns make it their official numbers. Johnny "Seoul" Factor (talk) 16:42, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fine. I'll leave it be. For now, anyways. RevanFan (talk) 16:44, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey JohnnySeoul, calm down if somebody adds in the numbers it is not and will never be vandalism and you don't have the power to declare it as such. It's always a good faith edit if a user adds in numbers they believe them to be correct. Cheers,--Giants27(Contribs|WP:CFL) 17:04, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm very calm, thank you. Good faith alone isn't what Wikipedia is about though. It is about good faith in conjunction with 100% facts, not speculation. When it comes to a professional sports team, we must wait until official word is given (i.e. Cleveland Browns Player Roster) before assuming a player will in fact be wearing a certain number. Mini-camp numbers are equivalent to when a player gets drafted and is holding up a #1 jersey. Does that mean he is now wearing #1 until proven otherwise? Of course not. The same applies to mini-camp. Accuracy is what we aim for on Wikipedia. The Kellen Winslow example is a perfect reason for that. I'm not trying to start an argument, but please understand. Thank you. See my comment on Pat1's talk page, I agree with you but I think that editors (like RevanFan) are acting in good faith and shouldn't have their edits called vandalism when they're simply doing what they thought was correct. Cheers,--Giants27(Contribs|WP:CFL) 21:27, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I don't think the team's website are considered the only definitive official sources. If a guy doesn't have a number on the website, but he's wearing #5 in training camp, then he's wearing #5. That's his number at the moment. It might get changed (and since it's training camp, it probably will) but that's his number at the time being. Also, From what I've seen, the NFL roster templates are kind of in a little world of their own when it comes to verifability and sources and all that jazz. RF23 (talk) 22:03, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We make it up as we go. :) Pats1 T/C 22:51, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Rookie Mini-Camps are much different than training camp. At first I thought why shouldn't the numbers from Rookie Mini-camp's be used, but upon looking at the photos and videos from the Browns camp (both on their official site and others) some of the numbers that are passed out for these camps are already in use by players on the team. Examples--Colt McCoy wore #12, assigned to Syndric Steptoe. Some unknown player wore #55, which is assigned to Alex Mack. There were several others too. These rookie camps have roughly 40-60 players in them, many on a tryout basis. They've got to give some kind of number to the players. So, that being said rookie mini-camp numbers are irrelevant to what number the player may wear during training camp, which may still differ from what they wear during the regular season.--Dawg317 22:17, 4 May 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dawg317 (talkcontribs)

Jake delhomme is no longer on the team

Not done He cannot be cut until 4:00 P.M. EST today. RevanFan (talk) 13:48, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reserve/Retired List

[edit]

Billy Yates was placed on the Reserve/Retired List. How is that notated? I don't see that in the roster status key. Should he just be removed from the roster? On the official team website they have a separate section, similar to IR.

It isn't. He was just removed from the roster entirely. He could stay on the reserve/retired list forever, so there's really no point in keeping him around. Pats1 T/C 01:44, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Roster template colors

[edit]

If the Browns' primary home jersey color is brown, then why is it that the primary background color of this template (as well as the staff template) is orange? I think the colors should be flip-flopped—that is, the background color brown and the frame color orange. DPH1110 (talk) 18:47, 1 January 2013 (UTC)DPH1110[reply]

Marquis Gray

[edit]

Please leave the numerous positions listed under Marquis Gray's name, as he (in baseball vernacular) is basically a utility man as opposed to a straight up tight end.

As stated here, the team has him playing all over the place, as well as being the 3rd string QB.
