@Smasongarrison: I am taking your advice and starting a discussion on the talk page instead of another revert. Now, the reason I reverted it the first time is because it removed the anarchism by country categories from from their socialism parent categories. For example, Category:Anarchism in the United States is no longer in Category:Socialism in the United States. Was this the intention? Charles Essie (talk) 16:26, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing this to the talk page. Yes, that was the intention because not all anarchists are socialists. There is a lot of overlap, but I don't think they should be fully nested for several reasons. As far as I'm aware Anarchism predates socialism. Mason (talk) 16:34, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Anarchists are socialists, libertarian socialists to be specific. Charles Essie (talk) 16:45, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing to be convinced, but just stating that Anarchists are socialists isn't very convincing. There are anarchists that predate socialism, so it doesn't seem to me that early anarchism would be nested within socialism AND libertarianism. Mason (talk) 17:11, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Who are these anarchists who you say predate socialism and what doesn't make them socialists? Charles Essie (talk) 20:13, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure why you're taking this abrasive approach. I signaled clearly that I was willing to change my mind. I noted that your generic statement wasn't convincing, which is effectively an invitation for you to provide early examples that are defined as socialist and anarchists.
My understanding is that early anarchism dates to at least the French revolution https://academic.oup.com/book/43805/chapter-abstract/369503978?redirectedFrom=fulltext . So why don't you explain how this example fits under socialism and liberaltarianism? Mason (talk) 20:25, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean for that to come off as abrasive and I'm truly sorry it did. That said, the above link only distinguishes anarchism from utopian socialism, not socialism in general. Wikiedia itself states;

The history of socialism has its origins in the Age of Enlightenment and the 1789 French Revolution, along with the changes that brought, although it has precedents in earlier movements and ideas.

In addition, every other category for anarchism is part of a socialist category tree. Why should this be any different? Charles Essie (talk) 20:38, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; now that context is extremely helpful because I thought of socialism as originating in the 19th century. I'll spend some time to get the template to properly populate to the respective subcategories. Mason (talk) 20:49, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Charles Essie How does it look, now? Category:Anarchism in the United States is how they'll all look in a couple of hours. Mason (talk) 20:59, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. I'm glad we worked this out. Charles Essie (talk) 21:01, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: It's been a couple days and Category:Anarchism in the United States appears to be the only one that's been fixed. Did something go wrong? Charles Essie (talk) 21:29, 15 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, that's odd. It should work. Can you try editing the category page of another category to see if that helps? Mason (talk) 00:46, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I follow. Charles Essie (talk) 01:03, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you edit the category page, like I did here,https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Category:Anarchism_in_French_Guiana&diff=prev&oldid=1240559202 it should refresh/reload the template. Mason (talk) 01:09, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we should just revert back to the version of this template from 15 November 2020. Charles Essie (talk) 01:18, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, maybe I don't understand what you want the template to do, that it isn't currently doing? I updated it to add the parent categories of libertarianism and socialism, which it is doing. Are you wanting it to also have the see alsos for both those categories? Mason (talk) 01:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just wondering if maybe it was working better before any of the edits of the past two months. Charles Essie (talk) 01:29, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by working better? I'm looking at the difference between november 2020 and now, and the only differences are that if adds additional checks to make sure that it only adds categories that exist. https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Template:Category_header_anarchism_in&diff=cur&oldid=988891788 Mason (talk) 01:39, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you point to a category that isn't "working" and tell me what it would mean for it to be "fixed"? Mason (talk) 01:41, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind, the one I thought wasn't working actually wasn't working for a different reason. It's all good now. Charles Essie (talk) 04:33, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Let me know if you want to see anything else implemented. :) Mason (talk) 22:36, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
