Personally, I found that the African Nationalist Flag, and American Flag side-by-side was kinda hokey. I did up a quicky overlay, which was then reverted. So, I have some ideas for a nicer one . . . but still wanted to create a stub for open forum discussion.

- Number three works best, I would say. --FuriousFreddy 17:24, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
- The use of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League Flag to represent topics specific to ETHNIC African-Americans is incorrect, inappropriate and an insult to the group. The UNIA Flag is not even an American flag, it was not created by ethnic Americans or American nationals. The organization was under investigation by the American Government; it and its founder were Anti-American. Even prominent African-American leaders of the time, such as Booker T. Washington, did not embrace Marcus Garvey and his Pan-Africanist ideology, which was also not embraced back in his home country of Jamaica.
- If a flag is going to be used in the icon that represents this topic, it should be the Black American Heritage Flag, which is an ETHNIC flag specific to American Descendants of Chattel Slavery, i.e. African Americans. LineageFirst (talk) 16:34, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Black Americans use this flag not the Pan-African flag with the United States map.
This is the official flag of African Americans:

- This is not an official flag, but vexillographic artwork created in 1990 by African-American artist David Hammons who applied Pan-Africanist colors to the United States of American flag. This does not represent the African-American ethnicity. Pan-Africanism is not an American ideology and did not originate from ethnic African-Americans. The UNIA is a creation of Marcus Garvey and another ethnic Afro-Jamaica. Garvey and his UNIA organization were rejected by ethnic African-American leaders of the time as well as the US Government because of drawn influence from Leninist-Communist politics in the Soviet Union. UNIA is also the Pan-Africanist Flag and the Black Nationalist Flag. It's not an American flag - the creators were Jamaican. LineageFirst (talk) 22:47, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Replace the Pan-African flag map with the Black American Heritage Flag. The Black American Heritage Flag specifically represents African Americans while the Pan-African flag just represents all black people. The Black American Heritage Flag is the official flag of African Americans. The Pan-African flag is controversial, seen as racist and used by all people of black descent while Black American Heritage Flag represents black American identity and African American culture and African American heritage.

template. Goldsztajn (talk) 11:09, 3 July 2022 (UTC)- The editors who continuously revert the flag back to the Pan-African UNIA flag are practicing ethnic erasure. That flag does not represent ethnic African Americans and should not be used for the AA topic-specific template. They are obviously not ethnic AA, are not taking the history of the creation of the flag, and its creator, into consideration, and are practicing blatant ignorance and disregard for the African-American ethnicity. I clearly explained the history and reasoning in my original edit that all editors can look into and validate for themselves.
This is the icon image that should be used, instead. The editor who reverted my change is asking for a consensus, but this is a well-documented and researched matter. This is not original research. A FACT is A FACT. No consensus is needed. Pan-Africanism, itself, is not even an ideology rooted in Americanism; neither the UNIA nor their flag was founded by ethnic African-Americans, i.e. Descendants of American Chattel Slavery. If you can't bother reading the articles about Marcus Garvey or the UNIA, there's other proof out there. Those of you ignorant of FACTS shouldn't be purveying this article or any AA topic-specific articles. You are enacting harm upon our ethnic group by promoting disinformation about us.
LineageFirst (talk) 20:05, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- And for your editors who are not ethnic African-American who are misrepresenting the history of actual ethnic African-Americans, you are committing harassment against us. It's not in your place to mis-represent our history, lineage, culture or identity. You're wrong for this. LineageFirst (talk) 20:20, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Pan-Africanism is a SINGLE ideology that only a few ethnic African-Americans have bought into and practice. Again, that flag is not our ethnic flag. LineageFirst (talk) 20:22, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- The idea that only descendents of American chattel slavery may be called "African Americans" has been rejected at several discussions, see e.g. Talk:African_Americans/Archive_25#Obama,_Kamala,_and_ADOS. Rsk6400 (talk) 07:02, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- The TEMPLATE is not specific to how the government identifies individuals, but the ethnic group. The article links listed in the template sidebar are specific to an ethnic group, not just anyone designated as Black or African-American through the lens of white supremacy or racial accounting that has no regard for ethnic identification.
- There should be two templates, then. One specific to our ethnic group (Descendants of American Chattel Slavery), WE DO EXIST; and one specific to this general identification that's not our specific ethnic group. But there needs to be more specificity regarding our ethnic group and our history. Our history doesn't belong to everyone else, but us. Just as other ethnic groups have their own designated space, we should have ours as well and to have it grouped in a way that obscures our unique history and identity. LineageFirst (talk) 21:37, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- Also, your argument still doesn't justify the use of the UNIA Pan-Africanist flag. It's not an American flag. LineageFirst (talk) 21:46, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- The Pan-Africanist movement in the contemporary era has been identified by the U.S. Government as being Leninist-Communist, a Marxist, influenced. It includes individuals who have collaborated with the Russian Government. I'm telling you that the current symbol/icon imagery should not be used for this template.
