The Hatchling, Giant puppet
- ... that a giant puppet dragon called The Hatchling was paraded through Plymouth, England, by her puppeteers, then flew over the sea? Source: The Hatchling flight

- Comment:
I am currently contacting two sources in an attempt to acquire a free image for the Hatchling article. So - Admin - if this nom passes the review, please would you kindly hold this nomination a little longer in case I can get an image for it. The Hatchling makes quite a dramatic picture, and it's worth the effort of trying to get a picture.Sorry I don't think I can personally get a photo of The Hatchling quickly enough for this DYK.
Moved to mainspace by Storye book (talk). Self-nominated at 15:47, 21 December 2021 (UTC).
- Storye, any luck with a photo for the Hatchling? I saw some great photos in the Giant puppet article. Will do a full review tomorrow. Flibirigit (talk) 02:50, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry, no luck with images so far. Fair enough, few professionals are going to answer emails over Christmas in the UK, but I have a feeling that they don't want to know. I have the option of trying to attend venues where the Hatchling puppet will be in use, but the puppeteers/kite-flyers will probably not take it out of its box until the spring - too late for this DYK nom. So I'll strike the above comment on the assumption that this will have to go ahead without a picture. Alternatively, I suppose we could have another ALT which can use a picture from the Giant puppet article, though I'm not sure how to word that while including a mention of the Hatchling. Any ideas? Or perhaps I should split the double nom into two noms? Storye book (talk) 10:55, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

Overall: The article is new enough since it was moved to the mainspace on December 20 and nominated within seven days. Length is adequate. The logo for The Hatchling is appropriately licensed as fair use on Wikipedia. No other images are used at this time. QPQ requirement has been completed. Approval of hook(s) pending discussion below. In the "Design and production" section, the quote "in collaboration with a leading design team specialising in puppetry, kites and immersive theatre" needs a citation directly following it. In the "Future events" section, the quote "Hatchling dragon puppet will lead an array of cultural celebrations outside Buckingham Palace at the Platinum Jubilee Pageant ... bringing Central London to life with colour, street theatre and dance" needs a citation directly following it. The article is neutral in tone. I will revisit a plagiarism check after quotations are directly cited. Flibirigit (talk) 14:05, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

QPQ: Done. |
Overall: The article is new enough since it was moved to the mainspace on December 20 and nominated within seven days. Length is adequate. All images used in the article are freely licensed on the Commons, clear at a low resolution, and would enhance any related hook proposed. QPQ requirement has been completed. Approval of hook(s) pending discussion below. In the introduction, the quote "perhaps the most recognized form of the parade puppet" needs a citation directly following it. In the "Ancient origins" section, the quote "the triumph of Good over Evil" needs a citation directly following it. In the "Medieval developments" section, the quote "Giant, grotesque figures such as Gayant, Cagenon, Saint Michael and his devil" needs a citation directly following it. In the 20th and 21st century sections, there are five quotes that need citations directly following them. The article is neutral in tone. I will revisit a plagiarism check after quotations are directly cited. Flibirigit (talk) 14:05, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- Review for hooks and general discussion
- The proposed hook is reasonably interesting and would be approved. I understand the desire for a photo hook as it would generate more page views. It might be good to propose hooks separately for each article. I could not think of a hook including both articles and a photo. Flibirigit (talk) 14:10, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- Done. @Flibirigit: I have added citations directly after all the quotations that you indicated. Let me know if you spot any more. As for the image, I don't mind either way. I'll split the nominations if you insist. But while The Hatchling has no picture, it's nice to have the Giant puppet link there to support The Hatchling hook. - I will look through the changes today and post here. Flibirigit (talk) 16:55, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- The introduction section for The Hatchling has two uncited quotes. Adding a source or paraphrasing are both options here. I'm slowly going through the articles. I might post in bits and pieces. Flibirigit (talk) 18:09, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- Done. Storye book (talk) 18:48, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- Done All sourcing requirements are met on both articles. The hook is interesting, properly cited and verified. I'm still working my way through Earwig and paraphrasing before I do a final approval. Flibirigit (talk) 19:17, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- I have completed Earwig checks on both articles and found no plagiarism concerns. The Earwig tool highlighted attributed quotes and proper nouns, neither of which are violations. The articles adhere to all DYK criteria as per above. Flibirigit (talk) 19:59, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
- I have a problem with the sentence
The streets of the city came alive as the community came together in a unique celebration of unity".
Seems a little too promotional, given that 1. i don't know where the quoted bit starts and 2. this is cited to a primary source. Also, could all the hook information please be cited inline at the end of the relevant sentences? theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 10:15, 3 January 2022 (UTC)- I have removed the quotation and rephrased its content. (Ignore the edit summary, I changed my mind about what I was doing, and forgot to adjust the summary). As far as I can see, all the elements of the hook are already in the article, mentioned several times, and already cited inline. For good measure and for DYK, I have cited them again in the header. - thanks! I'll be back to promote this in a jiffy. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 01:09, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
