Pritilata Waddedar
[edit]- ... that Pritilata Waddedar led an attack on the Pahartali European Club, which displayed a sign saying "Dogs and Indians not allowed"?
Created/expanded by Titodutta (talk). Nominated by CorrectKnowledge (talk) at 17:08, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
- The DYK check failed! It stated "Article has not been created or expanded 5x within the past 10 days (1906 days)" I'll asume that the offline source for this are correct. Please check again. MisterBee1966 (talk) 07:12, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- Article was rewritten from scratch after the existing one was found to be a copyvio (this revision); the old, copyvio revisions have not been deleted yet. This is acceptable per WP:DYKSG A4. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:23, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- I've taken care of deleting the old copyvio versions. :) But no credit to me, please. My only contributions have been administrative - moving it over the old copyvio version. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:15, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- I am happy to support the nomination MisterBee1966 (talk) 02:49, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
- When reading the article with a view to promoting it, I found too many prose issues, and cannot promote it at this time. A thorough copyedit needs to be done first. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:37, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
- I have copy-edited the article. Please have another look at it. Correct Knowledge«৳alk» 15:31, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- There are still several paragraphs without any sources, as required by DYK rules: the "Activities in Surya Sen's group" subsection, the second paragraph of the "Puhartali European Club attack (1932)" section, the second paragraph of the "Death" section (the block quote must be sourced), and the second paragraph of the "Influence" section. Please add these. One thing that has struck me as strange was the use of "Misses Sulivan" in the final "attack" paragraph, which Prioryman changed to "Misses Sullivan" in his edits in the phrase "one woman named Misses Sullivan died". The more I look at it, the more I suspect that the source says something like "one of the Misses Sullivan died", meaning that there were at least two young women with a surname of Sullivan, probably sisters, one of whom was killed; collectively, these sisters would have been the "Misses Sullivan", and separately "Miss Sullivan". (Or "Sulivan", though I expect Priorityman is probably right in his correction.) The other possibility is that it was only one married woman: Missus Sullivan. Can this offline source be checked regarding the Sullivan issue? If it is just one of them, but with no first name, using "Miss Sullivan" (or "Sulivan") is probably best. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:18, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Offline source says: a woman whose name was Misses Sullivan dies and four men were injured (translated from Bengali. I have added sources and removed second paragraph from Influences section for now! --Tito Dutta (talk) 22:36, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, Tito. I still think there's a misunderstanding in the original Bengali source: "Misses" isn't a name that I've ever heard. It looks wrong in English. I've changed the text to say she had a surname of Sullivan. The one thing left is a source for the second "attack" paragraph, the one that talks about deciding on the day and the issuance of potassium cyanide. Since it's important information, it needs an inline cite. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:13, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- Not a confusion of Bengali source, but I don't know how to translate this Bengali word which means: name or part of a name i.e. first name, last name or even nick name that can be used as a salutation or identifier. Your edit looks good.
- Actually everything there is sourced, if there is not any inline citation, then it is because of my quick rewriting after the copyvio issue. But, can be found easily in the sources which are already added.
- Keep the suggestions coming. I have no hurry to have this particular article in the DYK queue. If you find any issue which is not covered by DYK criteria (GA, FA etc) you can tell those too. Can I add a picture of Waddedar? Umm, remixed one with some color fill, changing contrast? (the image is in public domain, so, I think I can remix) --Tito Dutta (talk) 23:35, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure about whether, although the photo image is public domain in India and Bangladesh, that also applies to other countries such as the US and in Europe. Before you try to add a photo here, I'd try to clear that up. Also, I'm not sure about the extent of making adjustments to the original image; cropping is fine, and I've seen contrast adjustments, but I'm sure about color changes. Adding a photo will require additional reviewing. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:05, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

- That is dark corner. I took this to few Commons admin and also Commons ANI etc. In brief their consensus was, Commons allows only those images which are in PD in both in US (Wikimedia server location) and the image's country that means an image should have been published before 1923/24 or they should be supported by some other licene like {{PD-URAA}}. Now if we follow this rule thousands (really) of images needed to be deleted from Commons. They told to appoint a bot to do so (few months ago), I don't know what they are doing now. And I presume, it is not going to happen soon.
- Now, Wikipedia allows images which are free in their own country. Actually, after that Commons consensus I have stopped uploading PD India etc images in Commons and upload in Wikipedia with tag "Uploader has requested to keep local keep" so that it does not get deleted even if someone moves it to Commons. But, just now I have noticed few of my recently uploaded images have been moved to Commons and local copies have been deleted (I asked not to do so). I have to try to get attention here! Why these bots are tagging images as Commons candidate when in Commons they are not accepting these images! And in DYK, GA etc this point is not a mandatory point. There are many good, featured etc articles in Wikipedia which have have such problematic PD images in Wikipedia. --Tito Dutta (talk) 02:00, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- Sourcing issues have been addressed; restoring approval tick per Prioryman above. Good work! BlueMoonset (talk) 01:05, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
