Miao Poya

  • Comment: This is my first DYK nomination, please be nice :) Would welcome any rephrasing, might be a bit clunky right now.

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: None required.

Overall: Article is new enough, long enough and well sourced. Earwig is not picking up any copyvio either. QPQ is not needed for a first time DYK nomination. I'm not so sure about the hook's source though, since the Wikipedia page for Apple Daily calls it a tabloid. If there's any chance that it's just tabloid conjecture that Miao Poya and Lin Ying-meng were in a relationship, we shouldn't put it on the front page. This needs either a different hook or a better source. I'm proposing an alt hook below. BuySomeApples (talk) 06:06, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

  • ALT1:... that Miao Poya worked in a law office handling cases related to technology companies before becoming one of Taipei's first openly lesbian city councillors? BuySomeApples (talk) 06:06, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
re ALT1 - nice hook and based on refs. The article didn't quite say this so I changed it to reflect the ref. Victuallers (talk) 09:17, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks @Victuallers:! Which hook did you change btw? They both look the same to me but I might have missed something. BuySomeApples (talk) 20:13, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
  • @BuySomeApples: Thanks for the review and feedback! I definitely agree with it all and will remember to check the reliability of the source before citing it next time 🤦 I like ALT1 as well! I'd also like to suggest ALT2:... that Miao Poya successfully campaigned to change her high school's uniform policy before becoming one of Taipei's first openly lesbian city councillors? source (in Chinese, from Taiwan's public broadcaster) pinktoebeans (talk) 10:06, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
@Pinktoebeans: ALT2 looks great! I'm happy with both alternate hooks, and striking out ALT0. Also, I removed the bit about Lin Ying-meng from the article so that it will meet DYK requirements (it can always be put back in if a better source for it pops up in the future). BuySomeApples (talk) 20:13, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
Comment I just need another reviewer to go over these and make sure everything's as it should be. BuySomeApples (talk) 20:46, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
ALT2 is reffed with a source that is good enough. @BuySomeApples: - you asked above which hook I changed - I didn't I changed the article. Victuallers (talk) 17:58, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
Oh that makes sense @Victuallers: I've been a little distracted over the past couple days. If the nom and alt hooks look good to you, would you mind finishing this review? (apparently I can't if I propose an alt hook) BuySomeApples (talk) 19:24, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Oh that's not my understanding @BuySomeApples:. You can finesse a hook but you cannot approve your own totally new hook (which (maybe) everyone else thinks is biased/very poor/misconstrued). However you can complete the review with the exception of the new hook ... which is why I ticked your new hook. Keep up the good work. Victuallers (talk) 07:56, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
Got it. Thanks @Victuallers:! BuySomeApples (talk) 15:23, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
