MV Butiraoi

[edit]
  • ... that foreign journalists investigating the sinking of the MV Butiraoi had their passports confiscated by I-Kiribati officials?
    • ALT1:... that after the disappearance of the ferry MV Butiraoi, Kiribati waited six days to ask for international help in searching for the ship?

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Passed. I changed Alt1 to make it clear it was international help they asked for. Otherwise both hooks are cited Meanderingbartender (talk) 18:07, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but I have some questions about the hooks. In the first hook, what is I-Kiribati? Isn't it the Kiribati government? And why is it "foreign journalists" (plural) when the article states that only one journalist had his passport confiscated? In the second hook, why is it six days instead of seven (January 19 to January 26)?
  • I think both hooks sound accusatory and should be phrased more neutrally. What do you think about a straight-up disaster hook like:
  • ALT2: ... that an overloaded Kiribati ferry carrying 88 passengers and 35 tons of coconuts broke in half and sank last January? Yoninah (talk) 22:36, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Looking at it a month later, I agree that the hooks are fairly accusatory in nature. ALT2 is a better compromise in this regards, and I'd select that one over the others. Acebulf (talk) 23:09, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
on Alt2. I'm slightly worried that those numbers might be changed when the official report comes out. Perhaps it should be confirmed before being put into the queue. Meanderingbartender (talk) 23:45, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
  • How long will we have to wait for the report? Yoninah (talk) 23:52, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
No idea. The last news report was a month ago. Meanderingbartender (talk) 23:59, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Then I think the open-ended delay is unreasonable. We could qualify it by writing:
  • ALT2a: ... that an overloaded Kiribati ferry said to be carrying 88 passengers and 35 tons of coconuts broke in half and sank last January? Yoninah (talk) 00:09, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
I agree with Yoninah. With the small amount of news coming out about the investigation, where Kiribati requested help from other nations with investigation boards, I don't expect a report to be put out this year. Even developed nations take 1-2 years to report on transportation disasters, with some of the more complex ones taking upwards of 4-5. Acebulf (talk) 00:14, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
I was just raising the point just to be mindful that we might have to change the details but agree there's no reason to wait. Meanderingbartender (talk) 05:20, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
OK. Restoring your tick for ALT2a. Yoninah (talk) 12:42, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
